Toe covers this time of year are brilliant for commuting. Have them on in the morning and then remove them for the afternoon, the are light and hardly take up any room in bags.

Morvelo stuff is very good, i find the pad the best ive used.

I have that thermo active jersey and its good down to about 3 degrees with a underlayer on.

Im 5’11 33leg and about 32 waist, i take a medium in the jerseys and a large in their shorts.

I was excited for the first race of the season, pretty disappointed with that.

Looks like a repeat of last year but with even less cars at the back to race against each other.

Using a 105 bb, covered about 3k so far and no creaking, did have creaking from rear skewer which i initially thought was bb.

I get what your saying to sanny which is why ive not cut down my steerer right to the stem, if i want to i can flip the stem over and move it up the spacers, thats the beauty of the Tripster.

centre bb to top of saddle = 74cm
centre bb to top of bars = 80cm
centre of bars to saddle tip = 54cm
ground to top of bars = 91cm

Stem is 100mm -10 and as you have noticed i have a 7mm spacer

I do run my saddle slightly lower than most as ive got a dodgy left knee.

5,11 and on a 54, glad i didnt go for a 57 as the headtube would sit me up to much. I bought mine when the 55.5 wasnt produced, looking at the geo im still glad i have the 54.

420 for January and 402 for this month, not going well. Had a never ending cold towards the end January which turned into a horrendous cough, then got another cold. Found I just make myself worse if I keep riding.

Same, I did this, also works fine.

    Found the 15-19 gap horrific.

There is free transponder space, things will no doubt get shuffled around and decommissioned if a UHD channel was launched.

UHD-1 Phase 1 HEVC compression is coming up at about 45mbps. Phase 1.5 is unknown as the technology isnt here yet but it will be more granted.

HEVC contribution technology also isnt here yet, to get the content back from stadium to studio we are having to do synchronised quad MPEG 4 encodes at about 200mbps which is a really ropey way to do it. We then decode and distribute this around the studios as 4 separate video feeds, again a ropey way of doing it.

I personally think its going to be atleast 4 years before you see decent quality UHD at home. Sure some broadcasters may jump on it and launch a UHD phase 1 channel but it will leave alot of people unimpressed (a bit like netflixs attempt).

All these people saying that helmet lights are stupid on the road, you clearly dont commmute in built up areas. Having a light high up on your head is a massive benefit to allow you to be seen over the top of parked/stationary cars when your handle bar lights are blocked. Of course high powered or flashing lights are inconsiderate but saying all helmet lights are pointless is far from the truth.

I have a joystick set to lowest lowest power and tilted down with a micro red eye on the back, i am sure it has stopped many cars from pulling out of side roads in front of me as i pass parked cars.

Bright Strobe lights should be banned imo, they give no indication of how fast a cyclist is going to a car. Its very difficult for drivers to track a moving object when it is strobing/flashing. A flashing light should always be paired up with a constant imo.

    My guesses…

It will cost broadcasters a metric f*ckton to upgrade the satellite networks (studio headend kit, the satellites above earth, and your set top box) before 4k starts happening much of any at all beyond the odd demo channel. 4k needs bandwidth, lots of it, unless you’re happy with it looking like a turd. And network upgrade is not even on their radar AFAIK.

Itll cost a bit but not as much as your guessing, the biggest problem for us is getting the content to the customers. The Satellite “networks” will not need upgrading, just the compression used and with HEVC compression its possible to put a UHD channel within a current Satellite transponder (there is a test channel up there now by Eutelsat). The Studios will also just need tweaking, we have proved and tested this, its just the current solution (quad 3G SDI) is a real pain in the ass to do.

The bandwidth is a problem but the situation is getting better. I’ve tested contribution delivery bit rates of UHD content over satellite and fibre, our bit rates are up to 300mbps and we can do this fine. Its again getting it back to the customer, Netfliks 18Mbps UHD content is shocking and makes me laugh. To stream over the net you will need rates up to 30mbps for it to look half decent.

The reason broadcasters are not jumping on it is because the future is uncertain. UHD-1 in its first phase is not a game changer, ive watched Football, Golf, Tennis and Formula 1 and come away unimpressed as do alot of my colleagues. UHD Phase 1.5 is what is really needed, this brings HDR, frames rates up to 120fps (really needed imo) and higher colour gamut. The UHD content will be much more of an immersive expereince then. We also have the big issue of viewing distance, viewing distance is critical. We are on the edge of what are eyes can see, its a fine line between being able to see the detail and missing it completely. You need to sit closer to the screen than you would a normal HD tv or you need to buy a larger tv. Most people are not going to move their sofas, most European homes don’t have the room to accommodate a 60″ plus tv in the living room.

As a development lead for one of the biggest broadcaster in the country I would strongly suggest you don’t waste your money on a 4k UHD tv. It’ll be a paper weight before you know it, similar to those early “HD ready” TVs at the early adoption of HD.

6,113 for me, only log my commuting miles so pretty chuffed with going over the 6k mark just with that.

    Well done to everyone.

I have Spyres on my Tripster and they have been spot on, used with Ultegra 6800 levers and cabling. I wore the original pads out and im now on Superstar ones, not much difference between the two. Set-up and alignment was pretty much the same as i do with my mtb brakes. No judder here either, ive done about 1000 miles on them.

    Thanks for the replies.

So many people still use overshoes with their winter boots? Are the boots not that waterproof? Or are the overshoes to help with the cold.

Ive sorted out the cold problems with layers of socks, its the wet and the drying out that annoys me!

Have SKS P35 with a long mud flap on the front to eliminate as much spray as possible.

@hummer, how did the grails build up? First thoughts on them? Looking at them to replace the crosslights.

Same as tlr and roughly the same distance, i am concerned about how they will survive winter but ive saved some money away in case i need to replace them.

@Tlr, I had to change the freehub body to a 11speed and when free wheeling now I roll forever. The old freehub had hardly any grease and was noticeably marked from rubbing the hub, need to keep an eye on it. The hubs themselves seem fine, bearings still lovely and smooth. Had to tru the rear about 3 times at first but its settled down now and stayed tru for ages.

@iainc don’t know! Kept the 10 spd front mechanical.

@Matt, only very light loads thanks.

I run quite a road position on mine, i replaced the 15mm spacer for a 7mm and fitted a -10 stem.

Since this pic it now has 11spd 105 drive train and ultegra shifters, didnt go full ultegra because of the miles it does and its main role is a commuter. The bb died on the FSA cranks after 1600miles.

The original skewers on mine also creaked, replaced with hopes.

Kinesis got back to me, the first gen of V3 were 10 spd only, they have since changed it, however all the build kits have 10spd.

You can buy 11spd free hub body’s here:

Many thanks guys, think ive confirmed that i have V3 rims but possibly a V2 hub or V3 hub but with a 10 speed freehub.

Wonder if the 11 speed freehub will work on my hub, emailing kinesis now.

I dont know if im doing something stupid here, its 105 11spd cassette. There is no way the locking ring would ever engage with the hub threads.

Down on the hub blurb it says 10spd but agreed that the blue writing does say 11spd.

I got my tripster in July, im wondering if i have V2s now, my hubs/wheels look exactly the same as V3s. Ill take some pics in a bit.

Has anyone fitted 11speed to their V3s? Im unsure if its a new hub needed or if the one supplied will work, i cant get an 11 speed cassette on it at the moment.

its a bit vague on the website.

Hilarious, a Tesco home delivery van cut me up and knocked me off last December.

Depot manager wasn’t interested nor was anyone in there head office, they didn’t care at all. Luckily my British cycling membership sorted it all out for me.

Guess its there latest advertising campaign, jump on the cycling band wagon.

Wow looks great! You have pushed me on a bit to do something similar myself!

On my Tripster side of things, ive changed to Spyres! Vast improvement with modulation and adjustment ease. Not to mention ive been able to remove all the spacers between the rack and frame.

My current commuting lights, minus a back-up front cat-eye. The joystick goes on the helmet on low power until im on unlit fireroads/cycle paths when it goes up a notch.

The exposure flash/flare/blaze have good side visibilty but are definitely to be seen with than to see.

I commute 3 hours a day so burn time was a high priority of mine.

Dont be afraid of getting a good bike for commuting, aslong as you have a good place to keep the bike at work, keep on top of maintenance and keep it clean you will not Kill a commuter. Yeah your wear parts out quick but the bike will be fine.

Your going to be spending a lot of time on the bike so buy something you will enjoy riding.

Rack, mudguards and discs essential imo for commuting.

The new 2015 Genesis equilibrium discs look good for a fast commuter.

700 miles on the Tripster now.

Gave it its first proper clean and polish today.

Still undecided on the brakes, keep having to fettle with them to keep the power and stop them from rubbing. The shimano rotors have solved the judder and squealing, those TRPs are calling.

    Only changes are:

    SKS P35 (Long flaps)
    28mm GP4 Season
    Tubis Airy Ti
    Madison prime saddle
    Smaller headset top cap
    Shimano Rotors
