I would follow it up and go to an eye clinic to see an ophthalmologist, all my eye problems started with a single floater 20 years ago.

Took a while to diagnose but my floater was caused by intermediate uveitis. Alot more episodes of uveitis over the last 20 years and I’ve got a lot more floaters. I’ve learnt to live with them, I don’t see them unless I look for them.

But all the episodes has caused scarring on the internal drainage channels of my eye, which lead to high internal pressure. Luckily caught it early so its not developed into Glaucoma, but i’m on drops twice a day now for the rest of my life to keep the pressure down.

I see Kinesis have increased there Warranty to five years, when I purchased it was 3 years.

My first v1 was a year and half old when it cracked, second v1 cracked about the same, I was just out of warranty but Kinesis replaced it with a v2 for free. v2 is now 2 years and 4 months old, fingers crossed.

Had two V1 Tripster that both cracked in the same place as yours around the downtube, luckily I was in warranty and Kinesis were great, now have a V2.

I changed mine a while back, it is Alan keys into either end cap. These then screw off the axle.

Can’t remember the bearing code but your see them on the sides of the ones in there. 3 bearings, 2 on disc side.

For my own experience alot of Ti frames crack.

If you want something to keep for ever from your dads money i would look at something easier to repair, steel etc.

My Lower back flares up from time to time, saw a physio and a chiropractor.

Stretches particularly the glutes and hanstrings help.

The best solution for me I’ve found is using a Lacrosse massage ball on the muscles of the lower back, google and there are loads of videos explaining it. I find it helps release the tension which in turn helps everything else settle down.

I’ve just been through something very similar to you, we moved into a 1970 house last year. Same temperatures to you, took an age to heat up if at all. Temperatures dropped off pretty quickly overnight. A cold and uncomfortable house to be in.

Changed out the old Potterton thermostat with Hive, made no difference, just more control.

Swapped out all of the radiators from non convector to convectors, increased the size of them where calculations showed they were under sized. I was told its better to over rad a room than under aslong as your boiler can take it and let TRVs control. My boiler was fine and I fitted TRVS to every Rad. Bought a thermometer and balanced the system.

House went from taking about 4 hours to reach temp to about 45 minutes.

We also fitted new windows and doors throughout and Insulated the Loft to 300mm so the heat stays in.

Its a different house now, wife no longer complains….change your Rads now.

And let’s not forget, before the ubiquity of straws, many under 5’s died of dehydration.

No luckily there are these devices called re-usable bottles, they each have their own which we take everywhere. On the odd occasion we dont have them the cardboard straws are useless, a bit like your reply.

Straws, yes my 4 and 2 year olds use straws, more so the 2 year old. The paper straw replacement that restaurants seem to think are ideal are useless, my 2 year old can chew through one in seconds making it completely useless as a straw.

All these plastic replacements need to be as said above sustainable and fit for purpose, I feel alot of whats going on at the moment is jumping on the bandwagon.

    Option B.

I’ve commuted for the past 5 years, done about 30,000 miles.

I have a rule, if i find i get lots of close passes on a certain stretch of road i change my commute and take a different route. Often its not the driver that intentionally makes a close pass but the design of the road that kind of forces them to take risks to get past you, they just don’t understand.

My current route takes me about 10 minutes longer but its far more enjoyable than the direct fast route. Can’t actually remember my last close pass.

@bigyan My light bicycle rims on my commuter that i built myself have done 17,000 miles and look as good as new.

    I’m on my 3rd frame but…

My first V1 frame cracked on the downtube welds of the cable stops, the crack almost made it all the way round the tube. It was just 2 years old, they replaced it very quickly without question with another V1.

My second V1 lasted about a year and half before I spotted a crack in exactly the same place as my first one.

I was about 6 months out of warranty with the second frame but Upgrade replaced it with a V2 frame for free within a week despite being out of warranty. Thats very good in my book and Kinesis would get my money again because of it.

The V2 frame has a “strengthened” larger guage downtube and no cable stops….

Had my V1 warranty replaced for a V2, cant really tell the difference.

That cost doesnt include labour, they said 2 hours. So the total bill would be around £3100 with the investigation costs, oh and a £8.50 gasket,

We bought the car 2nd hand when it was a year old from a Honda dealer, its actually a 2014 car, so our Warranty expired just over a year ago,

Obviously no way im going to pay this.

Id hope the £2224 would include a holiday.

Had a bit more investigation and there is a 2nd butterfly valve attached to the inlet manifold, apparently it improves torque at low down revs.

This is the part on ebay:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-HONDA-CRV-1-6-Diesel-Throttle-Body-16800-RZ0-00/401561613424?epid=6021090541&hash=item5d7eeff470:g:SkkAAOSwlE5bOjP2

How Honda can justify that cost for that part i have no idea.

    Update, Cars now at Honda.

Who knew that the car has what they called a 2nd butterfly valve further down, first garage didn’t spot this I guess.

Anyway Honda have come up with what I can only call day light robbery of £2224 plus VAT for the part. Its a small alloy body with a motor that controls a valve…..got the part number and 2nd hand units can be sourced for about £50, looks very similar to the other throttle body. I asked if it was a mistake, nope thats the price.

I’ve opened a “case” with Honda UK to see if they can sort this, the cars 4 years old, 40k and full Honda history.

If not its going back to the original garage.

Thank you, ive looked for a specialist but none in the local area.  The garage say they have checked with 3 different code readers and they all come back with the same codes, they are going to check with another device which allows a 3rd party to log in and inspect further than what they can do.

I read that some throttles you have to unplug the battery and then do a alignment, rev to 3k etc but no idea if this is required.

    I also commute 100 – 150 miles a week.

My best tip would be to learn to pace yourself and slowly build up your speed and amount of times a week. Have a consistent speed the whole way, don’t go for sections or put any big efforts in, once you build your self up you can start doing that and then your start to find ways of extending your commute.

I’ve not given up but im certainly on a longer than I expected break.

As a fairly new dad to a 3 and 1 year old my time on the weekends is precious, I spend all week at work and just want to spend the time on the weekend with the family.

On the other hand i have an itch to get out and ride, road/cx fits in with family life well. Instead of spending time driving to trails, cleaning bikes/clothes, fixing bikes etc I can spend that time riding. A quick 3 hour early morning blast from the door step means i can be back in time for a good day out.  I can ride off road from my house but its a good 30mins ride to anything half decent and that just do it for me on a mtb sense.

Im not selling the mtb, itll come back out sometime when my life is ready.

Botley is nice and has good views across Woldingham.

I also like the Wiremill, different type of view but nice and relaxed and closer to Gatwick. https://www.thewiremill.co.uk/#pub

I worked shifts for 8 years with shifts of 5 nights every 6 weeks.

I ate during the night as i would if it was the daytime, had a bit of toast before bed and tried not to drink to much.

Getting the bedroom right was the most important bit for me to help keep me asleep. Do you use the fan to generate white noise? If not consider getting a white noise machine. I had black out blinds and covered any bits of light getting through with towels, i got the room pitch black. Also used ear plugs, with them combined with white noise machine i rarely got woken up by noise outside.

Last night i used to get 3 hours sleep and then try to stay awake for rest of day.

Never found a pair of overshoes that kept me warm, despite trying loads and different combinations of socks.

Now have winter boots and a good pair of thermal socks, no issues.

I have a 2014 1.6 Diesel as our family car, its a brilliant car for what we use it for and i would buy one again. Really practical, loads of space inside.

I think they have changed the 1.6 in the newer ones but i wish ours was a bit more refined, the engine is a bit chuggy compared to the smooth 2.0 TDI in my golf. It has enough grunt for the car fine though and i can get high 40 Mpg no problem.

    Currently set at 20, 05:45 – 08:30, 17:00 – 21:00.

Those with Smart Thermostats, do you think they actually save you money?

Recently moved and the house has a fairly old Potterton controller with limited functionality.

Vittoria Hypers are very good with punctures, i commuted 7000 miles on them last year with no punctures. There fast rolling, downside is i really don’t like them in the wet to the point they scare me.

I currently just have my WTB Nanos 40mm on, as ive just left them on from the summer, there not actually that bad with rolling resistance.

Depends on the type of riding you want to do on it.

I woudnt buy a cheaper UHD TV at the moment.

High dynamic range and wide colour gamut is just around the corner, literally next year. Most of the cheaper 4K marketed Tvs do not support this.

As above, alot of the UHD tvs on the market will suffer the same fate as all those people that bought the “HD Ready” Tvs, its very much a “UHD Ready” market at the moment.

BT Sport 4K is pretty impressive, it’s 50fps too which makes a difference to sharpness and smoothness, I think Sky Q and Netflix are 25-30fps. The HD upscales is very good too.

    Sky Q is 50fps.

UHD by itself is not worth the effort due to the viewing distance being so critical, wait till next year when HDR comes out.

The reason this page is 70 pages long is that the V1 is a brilliant bike at what was a brilliant price for what you got. I very much doubt the V2 would have done the same coming in at that price.

Interesting reading they have increased the gauge on the V2 downtube, why is that? As that’s where mine and DrP’s cracked.

Looks like the V2 fork has the same rake as the V1, would be interested to find out if the 12mm axle will stop the brake rub i get.
