“the Government may well want to carry on funding such projects (which I’d be sure they would).”

That is the current plan if you read the government’s own papers on Brexit planning. I haven’t read the House of Lord’s papers yet.

GNSS is typical example. We need PRS for our military and for future road toll infrastructure, and CS for future precision farming and similar. 20%+ of the European GNSS technology was designed and developed by British Engineers. Walking away is not an option.

The answer shouldn’t matter. Realizing and explaining how the problem is solvable does. If you can express this quickly in Java, that it also shows a strong language competence too.

It’s like watching the car crash on the other carriageway, or the tele-visual equivalent of reading the Daily Mail.

For the best result, attach it to your kid’s bike, helmet etc. The results can be truly memorable, especially listening to their monologues!

I regard flat pedals as a consumable and won’t buy high end as they seem just as flakey despite the high prices.

Currently using some rather good thin Boardman flat pedals that were going cheap in Halfords.

Other than that I like the thin resin Nukeproof Electrons with longer pins as they seems to shrug off impacts a bit better than metal pedals. The bearings are so so, but at that price, you just buy 3 sets of pedals which should keep you going for long while.

If I had time to think about bailing, I had time to think about control. When I crash, it’s instant and unthinking and I end up wherever I end up.

You have a lot of bike experience to draw upon and know when a bike is wrong. That’s not typical of the general public…

Last year I built up a Charge Duster Skinny for my GF, for back-road and occasional off-road use. My GF loves it and can’t believe how enjoyable it is to ride compared with the bikes she had before. The key to comfort was the XS frame size, then building it reasonably light and easy to handle. Hydraulic brakes were a total revelation to her.

The broad thrust of British domestic and foreign policy is agreed on and implemented by an establishment represented at the action end by the Civil Service.

This is quite true. Whitehall provides the function of governance. Parliament is the executive.

It’s easy to be radical when you have no authority. To get a chance to implement his core ideals, a conviction politician must “get real” and gracefully compromise the less important ones. Political success or failure depends on agility at doing that.

I have no idea if he’s actually a good politician.

I don’t think convicted criminals racing is a good image for the sport, especially since the crime was drug-related. But maybe I like the comeback/redemption angle enough to forgive it.

Sport media is a kind of theatre and it needs characters you can cheer and boo. She fits the bill.

Your phone transmits intermittently to communicate with base towers, even if not calling. It’s probably in your pocket near you balls most of the time it’s doing this.

It’s mm from you brain when calling so that maths up there is bunk

When you are far from a station, your phone increases the receiver gain and the transmit power. If you are close with good line of sight, the phone’s transmitter output is minimized.

I would not worry about being close to a base station.

Get a PCSO involved. Drop into your local plod station and ask for the number of a PCSO. They will typically visit you within a day to understand your issues. Helping resolve neighborly issues is one the things they do.

Anyone who has ridden one of the Mondraker Enduros there in recent years will attest to how good the area is if you scrape beyond the superficial. Even the superficial is very good. My personal opinion is that it knocks the Quantocks into a cocked hat.

In character, the Minehead, Dunkery, Porlock area is a bigger, higher, steeper version of the Quantocks, involving more steep road climbs and push-ups due to the general increase in steepness and size. The plus side is that it abounds in longer, steeper descents. The croyde maps reveal most of the good trails in fine detail; many are simply missing from the OS25K. Do be aware that the whole area is popular with elderly walkers at peak times!

A downside is that, though there are hidden DH trails around, it doesn’t really have a real equivalent of Triscombe DH.

“I dislike the fact that Apple has decided to build a cash mountain that is so big that it doesn’t know what to do with it.”

I agree. Money needs to go around for people to benefit. They need to spend it on something BIG for society. Some hard problem that will require a lot of people to collectively solve and implement.

“sorry to break this to you bud. 5″ is most definitely small”

Lol! Extensive research found that the average was 5.1″, so yes 5″ is technically small. Not sure how the research was done but apparently it was completely scientific.

“Which is weird, cause I think in the U.K. equality really started bottom up (Factories, Wars, Nursing, Teaching etc etc.)”

Kinda. Don’t forget Pankhurst and her ilk. But yes, people feel empowered when they realise they can do something they were told they couldn’t do. Like wartime women who worked our factories when the men were fighting. At the moment, British women still cannot do the fighting, but that will change.

I’ve coded my google glass to run a head-up display on a helmet visor – all strava segments show up as green/red lines across the trail. it’s nearly ready for sale, useful anywhere

It quite straightforward apart from the sheer effort to hoist an 8lb maul making it hard work. The main point is to try and let the weight of the maul generate most of the down swing and just accelerate/aim it before it touches down to maximise the impact force for minimum effort. A 3-4lb wedge splitting axe is somewhat more versatile and less tiring for “normal” size blocks.

A stump to split on makes thing much easier and safer. Strapping the block before splitting can save you having to reach down quite some much. Some thin grippy gloves and some eyewear reduce the chance of getting nasty splinters.

You will find knotty blocks where there was a junction in the tree and these are a sod to split. Or you can think of it as good exercise!

“IMO gaming and comic book worlds are obsessed with tits and fannies”

They are! They are played and read by teenage boys who actively fantasise and are fascinated by girl anatomy. So are we surprised.

But I agree that Manga can propagate misogynistic stereotypes such as the “Warrior Princess”, and the association between being an evil mastermind and wearing a trim-beard.
