My best days mountain biking ever….!

missnotax—is that location an overlook into Monument Valley, near the Moki Dugway escarpment?

I have gotten a few of the “they ought to ban mountain bikes from this trail”, to which I reply “possibly, but might work even better if they would ban cranky hikers”.
As above, I recently got the “you need a bell on the bike so we know you are coming”, to which I replied, “Ma’am, going through this rocky trail, this thing is as loud as a threshing machine as it is, you probably couldn’t hear the bell”–she wasn’t amused in the slightest.

My tyre logo’s don’t line up with my valves

^^ this–but in my defense, having them lined up never made it go faster or uphill easier

Mcmoonter, just curious, but what do you guess each of those stone blocks weighs?

At least in the UK you have some rain to complain about. 😉
We have had eight/tenths of an inch since early February and I haven’t had to clean the bike since then except to clean/lube the chain every couple of rides and blow dust/grit out of the mechs with the compressor.

Same here in the USA. People just toss crap everywhere.

A couple weeks ago I was out on a remote, old mining trail about 25 miles from the nearest road (4X4 conditions the whole way) and found an old refrigerator, a couple of couches and chairs, a table and probably 30 large plastic bags of trash dumped off a low cliff. It would have take a large truck or trailer, 3+ hours each way and probably $40-$50 worth of gas (could have taken it to the city waste landfill for a $5 fee and 30 minutes of time).

My biggest gripe is people throwing lit cigarettes butts out of their cars. Hardly a week goes by there isn’t a fire somewhere in New Mexico caused by that. Fortunately most are spotted quickly and controlled, but last summer one burned about 6000 acres of grassland.

Have 2 female Labradoodles, one 8 and the other 4, and they get on fine. The older one is the dominant dog, but they have never had any kind of fight. Earlier on had 2 females and a male German Shepherd and no issues there either.
I think it really helps keep an aging dog “young” and they are great company for each. Not really much more work and the enjoyment is worth it.

Had an implant done about 2 years ago and very pleased with the result as it looks and feels just like the natural tooth. Cost was about $2.3K here in the states.
Option was to put in a bridge, but in order to do the bridge, they would need to do a crown on each adjacent tooth, so the bridge ended up costing about the same.
My dentist suggested that I would really hate the care and cleaning of a bridge and he referred me to an oral surgeon who does implants as a primary business. Would definitely do it again if need be (and I have the $$ to do it).
The process does take a while (about 9 months as I recall) as they have to pull the offending natural tooth, then let the bone grow back into the root void. They then drill and screw in the post and that has to sit for a while until the jawbone grows solidly around it. Then they attach the implant and you are good to go.
The reason, as the surgeon explained, for the 3D imaging was to make sure there is adequate/quality of jawbone structure to take the implant.

I have days where I find myself riding with an element of hesitation and that seems to be a recipe for disaster, especially when combined with those dreaded bike-magnet rocks

Have worked at home for 10 years now, so wouldn’t know how to act in an office. As several commented in the thread, it does take some self-discipline. I find that, when business needs dictate, I actually work longer hours from home. Also find myself logging on to the work digital-desktop many times over the weekend and spending time answering emails, etc.

Have camped and hiked there several times, but always in the fall, winter or spring. Pretty brutal in the summer. I lived in Las Vegas for 11 years and really not much difference in the summer—kind of hard to tell much difference between 105F and 120F—both are flipping hot!

Good to know for when I make another trip to the UK and decide to rent an MTB—would preclude launching myself when I first grabbed a right-handful of what I thought was the rear brake. 😯

I didn’t realize that the left/right brake lever was set up as Left/Rear and Right/Front there in the UK. Here in the US, it’s the opposite. Some people here change it around, especially if they also ride dirt-bikes to avoid the confusion and potential of launching themselves OTB.

Not much better than a good tent despite been much more expensive

A good point and very true. I used tents for many years and got on fine.
What I liked about the tent trailer was was I could store a lot inside the trailer, even when closed up, so didn’t have to load/unload as much from the pickup (not to mention putting the MTB in the back of the pickup). That and the convenience of stove, refrigerator and toilet.

We have had 2 of them over the years and really liked them. After a few practices I got the routine down and could set it up in 15 minutes. Had a stove, refrigerator (small of course) and built in toilet. Here in the desert, stowing wet tent material usually isn’t an issue 😀
One aspect I really liked was we could unhook the 4X4 pickup and do all the exploring we wanted.

Just completed walking along a 140 foot, 6 feet high block wall fence while trimming pyracantha bushes with a gas hedge trimmer—during which time mrs busydog was busily going through our files checking to make sure my life insurance policy was paid up.

We don’t have the VAT tied to a real estate sale. Property tax is paid each year, but some cities/towns/counties re-evaluate a property upon sale and ramp up the tax rate for the new owner if the property has, over the years, fallen behind in tax evaluation (which is usual). Here locally, the new tax valuation has become lovingly become known as the “lightning tax”

Curious, but what is the “normal” realtor fee for selling in the UK?
Where I am in the US, it’s usually 6% of selling price. Some real estate agents will negotiate and some won’t.

I had a Mojo with 3 rings for 4 years until just recently and the only time I had an issue was once when I let a chainring get too worn. Replaced it and worked fine.

I forgot to mention in post above, but I tow a large tent-camper with my Tacoma and take it into remote, 4X4/off-road locations and it handles the towing without any problems.

We recently got a Samsung front-loader/direct drive and it’s the best we’ve ever had. We replaced an LG that vibrated so badly it would walk around the laundry room. With the Samsung, no vibration and it never moves at all.

Mine never have and even though they love dogs always ask if it’s Ok to stroke or approach a dog. Funny exactly like I was by my parents.

No but as a father I also have a duty to warn my kids of dangers. One is to be careful around strange dogs.

Those who care will continue so to do, we trust.

    I most certainly hope so!!

One of the TV news shows here in the states interviewed a bunch of high school kids about the meaning of D-Day and sadly, you’d be surprised how few of them had any knowledge of it.

Not a hijack, but since you are in the granite business, is there such a thing as a permanent sealer for granite tops vs having to reseal them periodically. we are looking at granite tops and one installer mentioned it.
