Tony – I know. Just having a conversation about new frame. Its the balance of buzz v risk I need to work out

Pedals are flats but I don’t think it made any difference

Tony – will take you up on that once I’m on the move again

Part of me wants to ride as soon as possible but another part is scared of random stuff happening which is out of my control – I’ll see how I feel once I get back on it but may need some help.

Ajantom – I can relate to your comments – mtb is such a part of my life but the randomness of it is the freaky bit

Insurance??? I wasn’t even thinking of that sort of thing – would I be covered in any way?

I ride probably 2-4 times a week round Cheltenham / Forest of Dean and it is something I love but now I’m sat here on the sofa contemplating the future and the risks of continuing.

The off was basically going over a small drop (tiny) I caught the chainring on the lip and I end up rolling down a steep chute on my front wheel. Ended up going over the bars and hitting the tree. So basic but such a stupid mistake and I’ve hit bigger stuff no problem and normally ride much faster/harder. I think that makes it worse in that it was some unlucky off which came close to life changing.

What I’d do differently would be to fall off earlier next time rather than trying to ride it out and be more careful on lips like this

I used those to change the travel on my air 350s

Might be worth dropping the distributor a line and ask

Post a pic and I’ll let you know if they are the same as mine

However I didn’t think you could change the travel on the coil version

Hardly any reviews of the 350ncr’s out there.

I’ve had fox 36 floats, 32 talas, Zocchi 55s rs revs to compare them to and I’m pleased – don’t regret buying them. They are almost as good as the 55s which are awesome

Sometime feel like they could do with some more small bump sensitivity but they feel awesome otherwise.

I’ve got a 350ncr on my spectral, got it about 4 months ago and very impressed. Feels similar to my 55s and loads better than the fox’s I had before

Yeah, I’ve been getting faster and more confident – you could say more complacent too. Had a wake up call so gonna buy something. Thing I was lucky as I had my d3o elbows stashed in my pack exactly where I hit the tree. Trying not to think about what could have happened

I had a similar problem with my 55axle and resurrected it using a dremmel

I’m OK, had an over the bars moment on a steep section and flew backwards before hitting a tree. Somehow walked away from it but a lot of injuries including fracturing T12 down to L4 – luckily not in a bad way somehow.

I’m not sure whether to get a pack, evoc or Poc so far on the list. Or to get a vest – thinking that even on an uplift day I ride with a pack for hydration so seem to be leaning that way.

    Pictures?

Can’t you screw it back on?

Why do you want a separate one?

I’m looking for some protection after breaking my back last week (lucky escape) and considering a pack with protection (evoc enduro) or a vest (raceface ambush spine)

Sounds like you had a similarly close call although I wasn’t immobilised. I’m already aware of the mental issues from this – have replayed it a 1000 times already. Scares the crap out me thinking of what could have happened.

So the pack, you confident it gives you enough protection? What pack did you have before?

What sort of riding is he using his for?

I imagine the Scottish summer is like the English one just a bit warmer ;)

Thanks – thimking the pack is the best option.

Turns out the Ct scan picked up that ive fractured 5 vertebrae – so very lucky!

So is the general consensus that I’ll be safe or I’ll die?

Mine a burly full Sus Freeride frame. The reason for swapping is I have the option and plus I could get a 150mm drop stealth v 125mm drop standard

Drilling components to remove weight and drilling for internal cables are two totally different scenarios.

In what way? I’d assume the former having more impact on strength and stability than the latter

So it seems the feeling from those who have done it that it isn’t a massive issue if placed in the right place. Right?

The reason for doing it is the cable routing is a nightmare and the cable kinks quite badly when the seat is lowered which catches on my pads/legs. Had to replace the hose once already due to a kink forming in it.

Mine is on a full sus so I have the linkage etc to feed the cable through. – Keen to keep the cable out of the way

Interesting thread as I’m looking to do the same on my Scott Voltage – so basically at least 30mm above the BB on the front face of the seat tube.

Is anyone who’s doing / done this using a grommit?

Just double checked and she is insured. So thinking might just put it through. We only have to pay if there are 2 claims for the same driver in 12 months. Means she’s not allowed to drive it now for a year and will have to stick with the Toyota Hiace! Glamourville!

I go occasionally and it’s nice to break up the usual riding and to push myself harder. Comparing it to places like FOD and Gawton it has it’s place in my portfolio of riding destinations.

As a concept I think it is a brilliant place for people who don’t have the fitness or experience to get into something they may (or maynot) enjoy. I have a friend who I’ve been trying to get there for a while but our diaries haven’t let it happen yet. There is no where else where you can get a lift to the top and have so many options for beginners to build their skills and enjoyment of this sport. Most people I know who have not given it a try or have not continued are put off by the level of fitness needed so I think this place is playing to a certain demographic which is much needed.

By the way I was there last week and I could have sworn I heard the driver say there were 7 buses on the weekend before.

Good day and a great course – quite tough but with some lovely flowy and challenging sections.

Did the 25km loop and came 14th (3rd in my age group), much better than expected as I said before we started that I’d be happy coming somewhere in 50-75% of the field. Actually turned out I was 24% so really surprised myself.

There looked to be a few incidents – apparently one guy did his finger and saw another who was mentioning needing an ambulance to a marshall.

I think that reflected the nature of the course though as there were some tricky sections.

water based underfloor – mine was cheap to install and is soooooo good.

Can’t really do water-based due to issues with floor heights.

We didn’t think we could either but did and didn’t have to dig down.
