Well its only taken 40 mins to get older daughter to sleep tonight Result!!!

But made the mistake of putting her to bed at the same time as the younger daugther and now trained younger daughter that crying keeps me coming in the room even if it is only to put older daughter back to bed!!!!

So does Zach Shaw and Paul Meacher! Most of the top Vert guys are mid 30s

Jamie Bestwick is apparently 37 – which to be honest I find difficult to believe since he is totally at the top of his game!

Therealhoops – Just wondered where you were – if in my neck of the woods I’d suggested trying out my bike and seeing what you think.

There’s an get together at a skatepark in Burnley next Sunday (18th) that you could pop along to if you were close.

Also, being in stockport – you are a damn sight nearer to Rampworx in Liverpool than me and for that I am very jealous!!!

    LOL @ Woody2000

JojoA1 – My BMX is set up with similar to my MTB – Same width bars, height BB, seat to stem distance (not quite this but the distance between legs and stem as obviously the seat is lower on a BMX) – only difference is the bars are about 5cm lower.

Its that perception they are kids bikes – I’m telling you!!!

The question is really – “how old is too old to have fun”?

I ride BMX (age 35) and ride with others that aren’t teenagers and the age range is 25 to 50 – at our Xmas party seeing a guy in his mid 40s do his first front flip was a sight to behold and truly inspiring!!!

I used to think that BMX was only for the teenagers but now totally don’t think that way since taking it up.

I think people have that perception because when our generation were young there were no adults riding BMX as it hd only been invented in the late 70s / early 80s. Now there is this thought that as we didn’t see any adults on BMXs back in the day that adults shouldn’t ride BMX now even if they grew up doing it. But if you look hard enough you will find a very active race scene with people of all ages racing regularly and a very active park scene also and in terms of a sport, in many ways it is far more demanding than MTBing. I see no reason why there is an age restriction on this aspect of cycling – that’s just silly!

Where are you in the country?

    “I am a nurse”

    – Cue loads of “Meet the Parents” jokes…. :D

Only messing – Not sure which health professional to believe then but anyway – as MisterT says perhaps doing too much is the root cause and the link I posted was very useful.

Considering the Doctor diagnosed it as Flu then I’d go with his opinion rather than your “jump to conclusion” diagnosis but thanks anyway Dr TJ.

Anyway – I was explaining the benefit of Vit C when used on myself not debating what I had…

Vit C worked for me so I’m sticking to it.

Compared to my next door neighbour (Same age, two kids similar age at same school / nursery, similar lifestyle) who doesn’t take Vit C – when we had the same bout of flu that lasted three weeks he was bed ridden for two weeks and I was only unable to get out of bed for a couple of days although the effects lasted for same period.

Not scientific but from my experience it gives me benefit so you can advise me of all the research you like but how do we know how reliable these studies are?

This is quite funny now – bit like which tyre for off road riding – which vitamins for less illness – surely depends on your circumstances / situation!!!

    Bushwacked

Vit C does work you just need a shed load when you are ill – up to 10,000 mg per day. Also don’t stop taking it suddenly as you’ll get problems due to reverse scurvy.

A friend of the family is a nutritional scientist for the government and is always passing on interesting info on this sort of thing which you don’t hear from conventional sources.

I found this very helpful as I was going through the same problem – seems I was over doing it and exercising too much too soon after an illness.

I take loads of vitamins and eat well but since taking on board the advice (especially the not exercising above 60% MHR) things have been better.

    Avoiding Winter illness

Also there is a good Winter riding mag from Cycling Plus in the shops now which has some good advice in also.

How do you work out the recovery rate?

My resting is about 50, max about 185… age 35

Just woken up and no interuption overnight.

Took about 1.45 to get her to sleep. Finally managed it by standing by her door and putting her back in bed everytime her feet hit the floor. Then when she stopped getting out of bed I litterally just poked my head round the door, at increasing intervals (first 10sec, then 20secs then 40 secs then minute, etc) and she was off!!!

Not going to count my chickens just yet and will see what happens tonight – although I’m hopefully going out for a pint so I may not be as consistent as I hope if she wakes in the middle of the night!!!!

Wife gave her loads of attention and a warm bath etc and put her to bed…

Making progress – worked out that I’ve put her to bed about 50-60 time in the last 50 minutes and now she is just crying behind her door rather than coming out…

Just got to keep her in bed now…

Slowly slowly catchy monkey or should that be slowly slowly sleepy monkey!!!

I’ve only ever had really good customer service from Thule – phoned them up on a couple of issues and they resolved them at no cost – wasn’t quite this type of issue though but did require them sending me parts for my roof rack.

Nope – not stripped them down.

Thanks for the comments – gives me some idea on what to expect.

Still very disappointed with the quality of materials etc – spending this much on forks you expect better.

Had the choice of RS Rev or these at the time of purchase and wish I’d gone with the Revs now (although the Revs from my wifes bike are now on my bike and they are great!!!)

Freddyg – This is exactly the same as our daughter.

I’m going to try the silent treatment tonight (along with putting her to bed slightly later) and will report back to share stories tomorrow.

Ahhh – OK – so Stoner’s idea isn’t to let her watch it when she wakes in the middle of the night – but keep her up and delay going to bed until she passes out… Now I get it and I like it!!! :D

Scotabroad – after two hours last night I got into bed with her – far from ideal as I couldn’t sleep but she went off and I finally went back to my own bed at 5.30am for a lush 1.5 hours of sleep before I had to get them up for school.

We don’t let her sleep during the day at all and goes down at a reasonable time.

We tried the milk thing but didn’t work so stopped it due to the reward aspect of getting out of bed…

I am tempted to let her sleep with us until she resets the body clock – but my wife is exceptionally grouchy if she has a disturbed sleep so on second thought I’d rather sleep in her bed until she sorts this out. Thanks

We spent about a week putting her to bed everytime she got up – keeping it consistent but didn’t work.

The annoying thing is her 2 yr old sister who sleeps in the same room doesn’t wake up during all the commotion!!!

I thought forks needed servicing roughly about once a year?

I’d not bother with a front brake – too much temptation to pull it and throw yourself over the bars!!!

The Beard – Really? Surely wear of such nature would only get worse over time unless the problem is rectified

    Did Pace say that?

In terms of jumps – Start small and build up to it… heard some horror stories of people going big first off!

Stem should be fine, but not sure about the bars!

Try them and see – just keep an eye on them for any “changes” or get a cheap set of ruffty tuffty bars in the sale until you get into it and reward yourself with some new bars when you achieve a certain goal – like doing your first double.

Do you think it is anything to worry about functionality-wise?

I’m really not pleased with it as it isn’t what I paid Pace prices for.

    Bushwacked

TJ – That’s what I’m wondering if it is a reasonable amount of wear – but My RS Revs or my Manitous have never done anything similar so think it might not be.

    Bushwacked

Apparently they have a 2 year warranty on Pace forks so I’m sending them up to them.

The Beard – is the wear on yours only on the brake side? The guy at Pace asked me if that was the case.

Bigyinn – They were serviced within the first month I had them due to a problem with the seal on that leg but otherwise they are about due a service – as they’ve had 11 months of use since I first started using them.
