Rim wise – depends what you are using them for.

I’ve not had any experience of the hubs, but agree with the Pro11 being crap with bearings – keep changing mine on a regular basis!!! :(

Was going to go for a jaunt round local trails but cold, windy and rainy weather combined with a hangover put me off so I went to the gym to exercise my shoulder and will venture out on Monday when the weather is better.

Yeah Doog – I didn’t get why the chain should come off unless the mech wasn’t set up right

Jedi – what do you mean?

    been following this with interest.

Chakaping – why wasn’t it very useable?? I’d like to think a 36 over a 32 increased the spread of gears that little bit to give you some bigger gears that you’d lose otherwise, especially as I only use my granny when I really need those smaller gears (basically the bottom three).

You do and I’m surprised you aren’t doing something in cycling “full time”

I think this is the best idea in the world!!! The more I think about it the more ideas pop into my head!!!

I’d say coaching along with skills training and getting the most out of people would be your best direction to go in.

On the way back last night I remembered the old gym I used to be a member at had a guy who was the trainer there. He didn’t have any formal qualifications but his experience, enthusiasm and personality made him very successful. He did pretty well from it.

But I’m not sure how this works these days whether the rules are stricter or not. I can’t see what is wrong with starting with one client you train and growing the number of people over time.

In fact, I used to do martial arts under a very famous teacher and he didn’t have any formal qualifications or training – but managed a class of about 50 people!!!

I’d say you should be fine, but see what people say on this.

Not sure what expectations I had but I knew I wouldn’t be able to ride much, so I am surprised at what i did ride.

In fact even though I’m still taking it in, I’m blown away by yesterday – totally gnarly singletrack but not quite as you’d expect and the biggest buzz.

Given me an appetite to progress!!!

The location is awesome and I just can’t believe you are only 10miles from the M25 there – such a beautiful place.

The problem health wise seem to have escalated since the floor collapsed so I’m wondering if the two are related.

Its a terrace house built in 1850. Bascially the alley was blocked up and the wall between the alley and the hall was knocked down to make a double width hall. The front bit wasn’t well ventilated and has ended up in going damp. They’ve built the floor up and stacked up on bricks so the damp can’t get to the timbers any more.

I suffer from really bad hayfever and seem to be allergic to most things including dust. I’m thinking the spores are hitting my chest and setting it off. Seems that after a good ride its worse, normally have a bad chest for a couple of days and it either settles down or develops into a chest problem – green snot, sore throat, cough, headaches etc. Not been this bad before this year so thinking that as the floor has collapsed allowing the spores to get above floor level this might be it.

It perhaps doesn’t help that I work from home so spend 90% of my time in the house. I do notice that when I’m away from home on business I feel so much better.

My wife bought me the first series on DVD, wasn’t that keen to watch it but watched it and got hooked.

Started watching the second series and missed a couple so will be waiting for it to be on DVD.

    Awesome programme though.

    Just outside Cheltenham.

Went for a spin on it earlier, bit rough in places and the jumps need shaping (hence this post) but its going to be awesome!

Here you are… they want to move the earth between the jumps on the two middle sections.

Fun – Thats what I’m thinking.

The option I’m being told has to be taken is move about 20tons of earth to make them about 6 inches higher.

Not looking at jumping them for distance more pumping over to gain speed.

Sorry – I didn’t get my copy of the rule book – can someone lend me theirs?

Everyone seems so hung up on what other people are doing or thinking rather than just enjoying themselves…

I know this is specifically about style but Gavtheoldskater hit the nail on the head for me saying:

you can learn at any age, there was/is a guy in the states who learnt at 60. it all depends what you want/expect to do on a board.

Life is about what you want / expect from it. For the past 12 months I’ve been learning to ride BMX while getting a serious amount of ridicule from friends and family. But for me it has been amazing – learnt so much about myself, made some good friends, had some seriously good times and learnt not to give a crapola about what others think which has been really liberating in itself. Oh, and I’ve also learnt some mental skills which have helped me enjoy my other riding so much more (which is the original reason for doing it)

Don’t worry about what other people think as its your life and when you get to your grave are you going to look back and think – “I’m glad I did as everyone else expected rather than pushing my limits and / or doing what I wanted” – Doubt it. Enjoy your life, you only get one chance.

    Thanks guys.

Just got back from the physio and told her that I wasn’t happy so she bascially reassessed me and tried some new stuff and found some different problems – will see how I feel after a restful weekend (Clubing, Drinking, eating, partying and DJing) and take it from there.

Could I also do the garden table and chair with the same stuff? Normally put teak oil on it.

The rules don’t say you can or can’t do JVs but they are so common in the real world I don’t see what the problem is (except for the future lack of sex)

Its a really old version and we’ve lost the rules, so we’ve been using the rules of basic capitalism and created a shell company in the Bahamas to be tax efficient!
