With the advent of MIPS it seems to be pointless if the helmet doesn’t fit properly.

I’ve got a Rallye upstairs which I’m taking back – worse than my flux for wobble and also has some pressure points where the MIPS isn’t padded well enough unfortunately

Yes, if I don’t I’m in agony. I spoke to a guy and he gave me some MTB specific stretches. Feel 10 years younger

On seeing 45psi my reaction was “f*** me!”

    Mine are around 20-23psi.

if you want to beat your mate I’d suggest some coaching (no one cares about the climbs, it’s all about the fun bits)

Yeah, never heard of issues and my Shorty was awesome last winter

That’s really interesting about the maxxis at low temperatures. Was just about to get a maxterra for winter. 😬

Thanks for everyone’s replys, I’m thinking from this that some riders just ride what they’ve got – would some people say this is true? i.e. dont worry so much about what rubber you’ve got?

Milky – I love my Der Baron’s in 2.4 (Not tried the 2.6) but the sidewalls aren’t great when compared to Maxxis or Schwable. I do think the Der Baron’s are slightly thicker than the Trail King/Mountain kings though. I certainly had problems running a mountain king on the rear noticeably deforming when landing drops and jumps.

It does however depend on the terrain you are running them on. I’ve found that round my way they are great on the Cotswold rock and roots, but not how how they are on others areas such as Chalk or Slate based terrain.

Really interesting reading this. Some great options and opinions on tyres and experiences when trying them out, including some tyres I’m tempted to try out. It’s not surprising that we seem to stick to what we know works.

A mate had the Michelin Wild Enduro tyres in Finale and they looked impressive – partly as I had no chance to keep up with him! How are they in the slop?

So, I suppose going back to my earlier question – what stops you trying other tyres? For me it’s the cost primarily. I’d love to try the Goodyear Newton but at £60 its a lot to lay down for something which may or may not be good.

Does anyone know of any shops let you try before you buy?

Yeah, the Der Baron has rubbish sidewalls but otherwise is an excellent tyre – a little draggy on the rear though.

Loads in the woods between Cranham and Birdlip. Check strava.

Depends what sort of riding you want.

Although knowing how patient/impatient he is I imagine I’ll be doing some guesswork. ;)

Vulcan 607 is a great book – proper “Boys Own” type adventure but its all true. Not quite WW2 or test pilots, but what they did was near impossible and they pulled it off.

First Light is a great book – well worth a read.

Jedi is well worth the trip – I’ve been a couple of times in the last 10 years and has dramatically changed my riding for the better.

    Ahhhh Nuki! So cute!

Had a good few days out with Proride, although had a stupid tumble on DH Men’s which broke my brake lever so I lost a days riding plus some skin.

Really really enjoyed riding here again. Can’t wait to come back. Weather has been a bit changeable though with some fierce storms which stopped me riding these last few days.

If you are after a family holiday hotel I’d highly recommend “Loano 2” – 25 min drive to Finale and the shuttle spots, but great place for family. We (Me, my wife and 2 kids) hire out a 2 bed apartment in the complex and works out less than £100 a night. Loads for the kids to do, shuttle bus from hotel to the town/beach and some great swimming pools.

I do a day riding and a day off.

I’d also say hiring a car is great as you can get around. Finale is not massive but there are loads of towns to explore along the coast and in the mountains – so having a car gives you that freedom.

    Hi,

I’ve literally just booked with Proride last night (Usually use Finale Freeride but they were booked up) I get the impression they build the day around the level of the riders rather than having a set range of trails they take you on. Is this how you’d describe it Alpin? I’m a bit wary going with a different company but they seem to have good reviews.

I had an absolute blast last year – trails ranged from fun and flowy (and in some ways too easy) to proper steep and tech which were really challenging. Some of the best riding I have done. I was surprised how un-bike parky it was which I loved.

In terms of family riding, there are some sweet trails for people who don’t have a great deal of experience, although I saw a family sessioning part of Cavatappi ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJxgJVDd2OI ) where the kid must have been about 7.

I had looked at the Lowepro but couldn’t see how it attached – didn’t think to do a Google image search until you mentioned it – looks like it could be a good option. :)

Thanks – been trying to think what on my bike would have a red o-ring – what is worse is I can remember seeing one but not where.

    Bushwacked

Had to go and by a proper 7mm spanner rather than use an adjustable – but turned out I hadn’t put the barb in properly – so oil was leaking out.

    Sorted now

But I’ve found a tiny red o-ring left over. God knows where this has come from.

Sussed it – looks like I didn’t put the barb on quite right so tiny oil leak from barb

As above – If you can pay the CCJ off asap as there is a period (I think 28 days) where if paid it won’t register on your credit report, otherwise it will stay on for 6 years and affect any credit decisions in the future.

I second speaking to CAB, especially if you can’t pay it.

Don’t take out loans to pay it back though, especially payday/short term loans

Mboy – as always you are a font of knowledge – even guessing right about my purchase ;) I’ll spend a long time in purgatory when my time comes! Probably getting flats or my wheels falling off on every descent for eternity!

Stumbled across this thread – how do you know they have been fixed? Just about to get a bike with these wheels and having no problems with DT Swiss wheels I’m not keen on swapping to dog shit hubs
