Not a bad night sleep really – left her in and came down at 6am (after a little whining from her) Not sure how much she was whining though as a 3hour ride and a 4.30am start yesterday ruined me.

Daftvader – been teaching her to sit, bit of recall etc so far and I think the Lab in her is loving working for the rewards. How are you getting on with yours? How old? Got any pics?

Daftvader – all good otherwise, shes quite content and loves my wife and the kids. No real issues at the moment (4 days in now)

Shes awake now after I went to the toilet at 12.30, ignoring her with ear plugs and she seems to be quiet… I think ;)

We’re not waking the puppy up, I’m sleeping in the spare room directly above the kitchen so I can hear it crying for a wee. Then I let it out.

Breed is Patterdale / Labrador cross.

OK – will have to ignore.

I have to add that at 4.30 this morning when I was out in the garden the neighbour behind me had his light on and was staring at me with his arms folded. But as my wife and I said it was the same if not worse with both our kids.

Flash – good to know, could it be any worse than the Kali chakra I have which loosens up at the first sign of a descent

Brodie – been riding too many new spots recently, joys of 3 months gardening leave ;)

    Glasses are a good idea.

Poc lids don’t fit me sadly – It’d be a Giro Xar as they have the best fit

Cheers for the input. Fancy a pair of Troy Lee’s or even some Royal’s

Chimney is fairly straight, recently swept and until recently has been used regularly as a gas fire and then once or twice as an open fire until the neighbours complained of smoke in their house, this is how I know it needs a liner ;) Haven’t used the fire since we found out for obvious reasons.

    True…

Overall I think it’ll be a good event.

Mo – It’ll be August – if the weather continues I doubt it’ll damage the trails.

HONC is always over subscribed and we have some amazing riding in this part of the world so seems a shame we don’t have more events like this.

Job – True, but it’s not that expensive, I’ve always felt HONC was a bargain and most of HONC is on road or fireroads.

    HOTS??

True, what was I thinking…

I’ve always run it with slower rebound on the back and the compression set right for my weight – although when speaking to a guy he was saying set the compression so it doesn’t compress when hitting the face of a jump. Then was told to run the rebound as fast as possible.

    Anyone heard this?

I’ve heard a few people say getting them “done” before their 1st season isn’t an issue, its more of a myth that it causes problems.

Recall is something I’m keen to get sorted early as going for walks in the woods and it going to ground could be interesting.

I’ll post some pics once she’s home :)

Was DHing (and did the Blue Descent) up there on Monday and the conditions were near to perfect, a little rain won’t change much.

Yeah, we met someone with 2 Lab x Patterdales recently and they were awesome dogs and the owner was so complimentary about what they were like.

How old is your’s? Heard they can be a little tough to train – how has yours been?

We’re in a similar situation, getting a Lab x Patterdale cross in 3 weeks and very excited. We were going to get a Vizsla but it all turned sour at the last moment and a bizarre chain of events led us down a certain route to getting this little beauty.

I heard from 2 vets and the breeder that we can get vaccinations from between 6-8 weeks and then at 10 weeks with 2 weeks after being the time we can let her out to socialise with dogs we don’t know and walk in areas we’re not familiar. Spoke to the puppy training people and as all dogs have had their first jabs at least we are OK to take her down to training even though she will only be 10 weeks old and just had her 2nd jabs.

I’m very glad I persisted because the trip was good.

I’d love to have the time to persist as the reviews are awesome but I have a short period of time to get something arranged and bad service is something that isn’t gonna make me commit my hard earned money irrespective of reviews as I need to discuss some options with them. I’m always positive and a smile back at you goes a long way and shame that if things are tough at their end that it wasn’t made aware when I called up – I’m quite understanding as we are all human.

I believe in posting feedback not to tarnish a company but to help them improve, if they aren’t wise enough to make amends than shame on them.

As you can see from the numerous reviews this is a damn good operation but could be made great by fixing the minor issues to help people into committing to use them rather than the number of other operators in the area.

Glad to hear you had a good holiday, I phoned them up recently to discuss options for a break after they had been recommended and found them very unhelpful and disinterested. Totally put me off dealing with them and will be spending my money elsewhere. I spoke to someone while riding on Monday who had a similar experience and found them full of attitude.

Yep – meditation will help. (This comes from someone who hates hippy new age bull****)

The mind is a muscle and until you train it to do what you want it will control you. Think of it like a puppy that bounces around from one thing to another – once you train it it will calm down and do what you want. Meditation helps you to train your mind to focus on one thing and also calm the whole system down.

Once you can focus on one thing you’re mind won’t jump about as much – you’ll have more energy (from using less energy thinking too much) and have more focus and concentration from being able to control what you are doing.

The reason why you wake up is the body gets enough sleep and wakes because it thinks there is a threat (Think back to the fight or flight response and needing to be alert in times of threat) so your body sleeps only as much as it needs to before your mind wakes you to deal with the threat.

I’ve been doing it for a year now and it has changed everything for me. Love my sessions even if it is just 10mins a day has a massive effect.

Also, a mate is going through a nasty messy divorce and he was all over the place in the same way – constantly flitting from one subject / thought to another and memory like a sieve – he’s been meditating and is now a whole lot calmer than before.

This book is a great introduction

    Learn to meditate on Amazon

If you want to learn more “The Power of Now” is an interesting read – although some of it is a bit out there but once you experience the benefits of meditation you can see the logic.

My step-brother got booted out of home at 20 for being like that – did him the world of good. Was tough though and my mum and his father had been together for some time.

I think the big problem is the loss/lack of life skills he is going to have – I bet he couldn’t even do a decent shop for food or know how to manage bills etc – longer it goes on the more institutionalised he will get and the harder it will be for him – if she loves him she’ll send him out into the world.

Perhaps watching the film “Stepbrothers” might help too… ;)

I’ve been looking at yr.no, metcheck and Metoffice and yr.no seems to be sat in the middle of both, with Metoffice predicting cloud but limited rain and Metcheck predicting lots of rain on wednesday. Will be interesting to see how bad it is on the day.

Storm in an e-cup – the government have been tracking people of interest for years and as long as you have nothing to hide then I dont see the issue here, yeah, the government could start on the road to becoming a dictatorship in the future, but I would be seriously surprised how far that got before the people stopped it. I don’t see this as a start of that. We have various bodies who work to protect the subjects suchas the ICo and others who I am sure have been involved in overseeing what is happening here.

What I wouldbe more concerned about is the use of such knowledge / information by the private sector as you never know what you are agreeing to in variouscontracts we sign up for. I’ve heard of a project which aims to provide data on peoples daily movements and physical locations (historic and realtime) and apparently all permissible under your mobile contract. Now thats scary and of more concern to me!

Slight hijack – So, now you are in your 40s or older, anyone here find after a good hard ride they feel groggy/washed out the next day? I’m assuming this is normal and I’m not really worrying but interested as most of the people I ride with are younger and seem to have the energy/recovery of superhumans. ;)

If you are quite tall get one with a longer top tube. There are loads out there – probably best to try a few out then get something at a mid price point with room to upgrade.

I’m still keen to discuss as I think you have mistaken the location of that photo and I won’t reveal any information which could identify what I understand and believe to be a reputable breeder from first hand knowledge and speaking to people within the breed.

Like I said, email me if you have nothing to hide as I want to make the right decision.
