I’ve just done my first season of CX and I totally got the bug. I wouldn’t get too hung up on the bike just now. It’s a pretty explosive sport and if you can ride at your max heart rate for an hour and work on technique, accelerations and fitness you’ll start to smash it. Mountain biking has totally helped me with technique.

Give it another go next season :)

I had these and had the same issue, but to be honest I was pumping them up too hard to get them to seat.

I think the pressure i was putting into them was stretching the side wall too much, if that is even possible. Trying sealing them at a lower pressure. That worked for me and that have been absolutely amazing in my last two CX races.

Just fitted a pair of the new Schwalbe S-One tyres. 30mm with a nice file tread pattern. Went on by hand and inflated perfectly without any sealant. Looking forward to trying them on the commute tomorrow.

Got them from Bike 24 for £35 a pop.

Built a set of CX disc wheels from Novatec D771/D772 Hubs, DT Swiss 460db rims and Sapim Race spokes. Cost me around £150 in parts and weigh just over 1600g. I run them tubeless with WTB Crosswolf tyres. Raced in 3 CX races and they have been fantastic.

Yeah they cam yesterday less than 24 hours after ordering and they are retail boxed with all inner and outer cable included. Hope someone else jumped on them before price went back up

Can anyone recommend a rear mech hanger for this frame that isn’t made of cheese?

No matter how well I set my limit screws and cable adjustment, the rear mech always wants to fling the chain into the spokes. e.g before the start of my CX race today.

    Pref Wheels Manf.

I’ve just moved to Pedalcover. Excellent service, policies and cover. Saved me a decent amount over my renewal price and now covered for any eventuality. Well worth a call for anyone thinking about it.

Off to Saint Savin,Haute-Pyrenees for a week of road riding in September. Decided just to drive from Ayrshire after looking at flights and connections for the past few months. My Mrs can share the driving and it’ll be a good road trip.

I started on Sora with my first road bike and thought it was pretty good. I then changed that to a better bike which came with 105 5700 and it felt so light to change gears in comparison.

My 2nd bike has SRAM Apex fitted and I enjoy double tap that much I’m in the process of changing over to a mix of SRAM Red/Force on the good bike.

So pretty much what everyone else says, until you try both you can’t be really sure what you’ll prefer, but the costs can be pretty minimal if you do want to change.

Best I ever got was 75% off and £50 credit. They couldn’t match it when up for renewal. We’ve been clean for 3 years and not looked back. Netflix (with US-Unblock) and iPlayer have pretty much changed our viewing habits.

I’ve been tool shopping all weekend for wheel building. For dishing a wheel Wiggle have their own Lifeline branded one for £20 plus any personal discount you might have would make it cheaper.

    Thanks all.

Looks like a med will be a bit big.

PSA. A med Soul with King headset and Hope seat clamp. £150 on Pinkbike.

Any idea if this is still available. I know I can register and ask but I’ve never bothered with Pinkbike before.

Is 5ft 10″ too big for a small? Fancy the MK1 on offer. Don’t want to feel cramped or have loads of post showing.
Cotic website has max height for a small at 5’8″. At 5’10” you’re firmly in the middle of a medium. I’m right at the end of a medium and I struggle with a 350mm post to keep enough in the frame (100mm min). And I tend to run a low saddle, been meaning to get a 400mm long pin for 3 years!

Personally I think it’d be horrible. See r/dogs post above, reckon you’d be the same (on a small).

You people should read the Cotic sizing guide, I think they put it there for a reason…

    I know I know….love a bargain. :-)

Yeah I spoke to my independent about it when it was in getting serviced a few months ago. Although the floor of the boot lift up to reveal more compartments and storage in a deeper well. He says it isn’t large enough to take a space saver. His recommendation was the BMW mobility kit you get with a Mini. I noticed the slime kit on Amazon was much cheaper and wondered what other people do.

The 2 reasons I’m changing are ride quality and cost of replacement. My rears tyres are a different profile from the front and the cheapest run flat I can find for the rears is around £150-£160. One of the back tyres punctured on Friday and the other is nearly worn and with the MOT early next year for the price of two run flats for the rears I am just about the same money (£349) to change all tyres to standards.

Unfortunately I don’t have a spare wheel well in the boot so it would take up boot space. I have been trying to find the official BMW mobility kit that they put into Z’s and Mini’s. My wheels are 18″ so I think this may be the only option. I see slime so a compressor and sealant kit.

Could someone help me. Trying to fit SKS Chromoplastic guards and I have managed to fit the rear guard. I can’t get a bolt that work will with the fork. Either it’s too long or too short. I only have one washer left after using two so can’t pack it out with them. Any ideas or a pic showing what you have done would be great.

    Cheers

After looking at trainers for the last few weeks. Decided to try the Bkool Pro trainer on this 30 day trial. The videos do look interesting and the smart resistance that will work with TrainerRoad.
Dont think the trainerroad / bkool interface is completely sorted yet but apparently they (trainerroad) are working on it:
    http://support.trainerroad.com/hc/en-us/articles/201697324-Bkool-Electronic-Trainers

Also when you get it and start using the simulator its not completely obvious how to set up rides! Theres rides listed that are ‘live’ ie in warm up or underway and you can join any of these and race other people straight away.

If you want to actually do a route in the Bkool database Eg Col du Glandon or something you have to go on the Bkool website, search for it then schedule it (basically put what computer opponenets you want in, and the date you want to do it. You can put any date in but still do it at any time before that date). Best thing to do is have a play on the website and download the simulator program before you actually get the trainer. Make an account then search for rides you fancy doing and either schedule them, or do what i do and add a load to your ‘favourites’ then you can ride these anytime you want from the simulator program.

Sounds complicated but once you get the hang of how it works its dead easy.

Cyclechat Bkool forum has lots of people doing leagues / races that you can join. Just join the forum and post up and people will add you to the leagues (currently theres a mountain goat league (alps sort of climbs), a 100 uk hills climb league and a chaingang live racing thing each week. And a newly formed ‘alpine moose’ league for the less fit hill climbers!

Cheers Meeeee. I’ve been following the TrainerRoad blog post and they face they now have hands on the hardware I don’t expect it to take to long before they have a fix. I’ve added about 8 famous climbs so farto my favourites list so plenty to keep me entertained. I have a few big road bike trips next year so really looking for some structured training to help me get through them. Do you use the videos mostly or 3D renders? My trainer should arrive Monday.

Have a look at the Bkool trainers. They have either computer graphics simulated or real video rides, you can make your own routes up or ride any of the already uploaded ones on the website .

Can ride solo or race against computer bots, other bkool members or your own previous times. They also have leagues with live racing. Theres quite a community on the cyclechat bkool forum if you want to have a read and get an idea of what the races are like.

If you order from bkool they do a 30 day free trial
