Worked in retail since I dropped out of Uni when I was 18 till last year. I’m now 37. I managed to work my way up to a mid level manager role and had a decent salary but hated it. It was like being in School and I was a guidance teacher, but i had to provide for my family and that all came first.

My wife went back to work full time when our twins started primary school and financially that enabled me to look for something else. I know work in a field engineering role in a sector I enjoy. I took a drop in basic wage, but to be honest the overtime I work means I’m walking away with more each month, not that it’s important but it helps. I now work a 4 day week and have loads of time to spend with my family and friends. I was worried if I didn’t try and change I would end up like some of my colleagues in retail who had spent their entire career in stores and wished they had tried something else.

Do you have kids? I can’t see the attraction of buying a caravan unless you know you’re only going to be having UK holidays for a good few years. I can’t believe it’s worth the hassle/expense if you intend driving it to Europe on holiday.

6 year old twins. I think I’ve managed to delay the issue for a while.

My boy loves his football. I’d picked up tickets for Man City v’s West Brom (22nd April) for only £52 for the two of us. Unfortunately it’s been postponed due to City being in the FA Cup Semi Final.

We had already booked a Premier Inn as we are travelling down from Ayrshire…a bit of a gamble I know. So not wanting to lose out and being a tight Scot we are now going to Burnley V’s Man U on Sunday 23rd April (£45) I’m actually more looking forward to that fixture.

The owner of that coat must be feeling a bit sheepish today.

Said to the wife, Don’t think anyone will be claiming that jacket.

2 Brilliant series, then one that started just as well and only really went a bit awry in the final episode and now this absolute joke. From the sublime to the ridiculous.

Totally agree. The Caddy has gone.

Went with an AirBnB in Roslindale. Understand it’s a bit further out but we don’t mind that.

I don’t own these, but for CX you’ll be hard pushed to beat them on price and hand built too.

Go for the Dugast for pimp factor.

    Hi mcnultycop

    I’m 5ft 10″ and ride a 56cm Cube Attain that I picked up a few weeks ago.

I ride a 54cm Cannondale and 54cm Kinesis if that helps.

I know not everyone on here loves mass events like L’Etape du Tour but this taken was 6 days after I got married. It’s from the top of Joux Plane. As it was my first Etape I was in the last starting pen. I climbed Joux Plane in the worst of the heat but at the point this photo was taken I knew I’d finish. I can still remember this like it was only yesterday. Such an amazing experience.

Just had to change mine from private. Big Year. Wedding, New Career, Tour of Flanders, Etape Du Tour and Road Trip to the Pyrenees. Not all reflected in these pics :D

Very tough. If it’s anything above 28 deg it’s also South facing so nowhere to hide in midday sun. Only other climb that was comparable for me was Hautacam

    I’m 5ft 10″ with a 32″ inside leg and considering a 56cm. I ride a 54cm Cannondale and a 54cm Kinesis CX bike.
Burnsy I think you’re on the right lines, thanks to having to go up a size to fit a Cube. I’m same dimensions as you and also have a 54 C’dale and would go for a 56 Cube (I seriously considered the Attain as n+1, which is why I may actually have been the first to recommend an Attain from Rutland in this thread ).

Cheers crashtestmonkey. That’s what I was thinking. :)

    Pyreenes Cycling Lodge

My wife and I spent a 5 days here in Sept. We rode Lac D’Estaing, Borderes, Solur to Aubisque via Cirque du Litor. Tourmalet, Hautacam, Luz Ardiden all from the cycling lodge. Breakfast and Dinner were included.

Great location and fantastic hosts. We drove from Ayrshire 8O

It’s a stunning part of the world.

Stuck £5 on Cav this morning at 8/1 for the stage win. Had a wee feeling it was his going to be his day.

Great finish. Good first day, much better starting with a stage like this instead of a Prologue.

Another curve ball to add. Merlin Wear Elite bibs have been awesome for the price.

Received the new DHB Aeron bib shorts and the DHB ASV Race today.

Both size medium, but the leg grippers on the ASV Race are baggy around my thighs just above the knee.

Nice length and great pad, I already own the ASV bib tights, but the fit with the Aeron shorts is just so much better for my body shape. Not sure yet how much an improvement there is with new the pad on the Aeron shorts.

I’ve my heart set on the Kinesis Tripster ATR v2 which should be out this autumn .
what’s so great about the v2? And does this mean the v1 frames will be going cheap?!

Nothing life changing, internal cabling and the 142mm rear drop out is handy. I have a spare set of hubs to build up. I was close to ordering a Tripster ATR then realised an update is imminent so going to hold off for now.

No, I’m still on the nodder bike with discs and guards. Need to get the Flanders trip out the way first, along with new wheels for the summer steed. So it’s a few weeks off yet.

    Exact same situation for me.

The threads where people are crying out for help with issues in there life and the response and support they get is nothing short of awesome.

I’ve not owned a mountain bike for 6 years (changed to road bikes as they fit in with my young family better) but I always spend most of my internet time browsing through here.
