I think i struck it lucky, I used to run a singulator until i broke the spring one day. So an excuse to change all the drive bits, – Kool chain , surly 32t chain ring and 16t rear. I managed to find that magic length of chain and havent looked back since. No need for a tensioner. Its super smooth and almost silent on my Caldera. It looks very clean to. Like my bmx. Simple!

Just remember to do your qr up properly . Ive pulled my wheel out once because i did'nt tighten it enough.

I ride bmx nearly every day. The quality of bmxs has gone up miles compared to maybe 5 years back . At £170 you can get some awesome bikes. I work in a bike shop on a sat now and again and sell loads of bmx's to kids.

    On that budget I'd recommend

    Mongoose Subject – £179
    Felt Vault- £179

a bmx frame size is determined by the top tube length. from centre seat tube to centre head tube.

20.0 is on the small side and is for short people with arms of pixies.

21.25 is on the long side for those lanky bastards.

im 5'11 and ride a 20.75 inch frame.

american bb is a mid bb with cups.

fit/wethepeople/haro new models are nice too

Yes, this is true, If a bike comes with an American style bb it pretty oldschool. So I still advise to avoid American BB!

Fit are definately awesome. I ride a custom fit Hawk but the lower end are still pricey for what you get.

    Hi mate,

    Dude, Ignor these ignorant fools!
You can get some great deals on BMXs now. Depending on your budget. We the people do some awesome full builds.
    I’d also look at Felt.
If your 5ft tall you need quite a short top tube. Most full builds will come in 20inch or 20.5 inch top tube lengths.

Things to look for are – Cassette rear hub, 9 tooth rear sprockets with 25 up front is ‘whats in’ at the moment. ( called Micro drive). 3 piece cranks come as standard with most bikes over £150. Mid,spanish or euro bb. Avoid American bbs (bottom bracket)!!!! Expect it to weigh in around 27-28lbs. Unless you spend £500-600 and you will get a 22lb sweet ride!

You can get some wicked 2nd hand bargains on bmx forums and ebay. Just ask me if you spot antything you like the look of.

Have fun! Bmx is awesome! Just like ss xc dirt and trials!

oooooohhhh my god!!!! I love this frame!!!! It was my first proper mountain bike! I put it through so much abuse dirt jumping and trials. I did snap it in half though but that was my fault!!

Flat pedals are shite when mountain biking. unless you are dirt jumping. (which I do aswell)
Spds give you way more control when bombing down tehnical stuff. The more points you have connected with the bike the more welly you can give it round corners. Spds are so much more efficient to!!

However I ride bmx a lot and can bunny hop about 2.5ft on my flat plastic pedals.

Ok,obviously you are struggling to meet chicks. Ive never had a problem since I learnt to dance.

Women actually adore men who can dance.
I personally breakdance, and I know about half the guys that breakdance at the same club as me do it to pull chicks. It is amazing. They are bog standard looking guys. Soon as they show a bit of confidence on the dance floor women start showing interest. Women are always coming up and asking how I learnt, where they can. how amazing it looks. Now, isnt that an easy way start talking to girls!

Now breakdancing is not for everyone. I have also started Salsa lessons. My god. So many single ladies go. Never enough men. Guess what, you get to dance with all of them ! And Salsa is just about as sensual as a dance gets. Apart from argentinian tango. But thats just flipping ridiculous!!

Even if you cant dance for shit for the first 4 attempts, you will eventually pick it up. And the ladies will appreciate a man who can lead.

Make sure you smell fresh, have a nice after shave like ‘issey miyake’ or Diesel fuel for life. Fresh breath and you are away!!

    Good Luck !!

I got pushed out of my job (basically politely fired )in Financial recruitment in Oct last year. Had been in quite successfull but high pressure sales jobs for 8 years since I left college. Came as a huge blessing in disguise though. I landed a job as a cycling instructor. Work at schools a lot and also teach adults from complete beginners to quite advanced riding techniques for commuting through London. Very rewarding and I love the hours! Less stress, Im doing what I love and showing others how good cycling is. And i dont think I could work in a stuffy office ever again!
