    Yes, I used a 30.9 command post in a 31.6 seatube for 2 megavalanche races in the alps. I used a shim made out of plastic milk bottle. Worked perfect. Just cut a rectangle to size and shape. Never budged and didnt scratch the post either!

    However if you hate loud buzzing noises constantly chasing you down a trail and the only way to out run it is to pedal faster Id try some other sealed bearing manufacturer.

    Used my ashima airos for two week long alp trips and megaavalanches. Not one issue. Tonnes of stopping power . Still straight and I’ll use em again next year., run 203 front 180 rear. Super light and very good.

    Hit the big gap yesterday on tippers clipped in on my SS xc bike. Just made it pedalling at it like Speedy Gonzales . COuld do with a higher gear really! Lovely gap. Not much run off on the landing tho. Didnt take the right hand hip into it . Bypassed and straightlined at it! I’ll get the vid up soon.

    When I go to the alps I take as many spares as possible, This year I took cranks, brakes,rear mech and wheels of my other bikes on top of the the normal hangers/pads/tubes etc. However since your flying I guess wheels would be out of equation. My mate bent a pair of cranks this year so luckily he borrowed my spare set.

    uuuuuurgh. Rode a mates bike with X4 the other day. the shifters flex more than than a flexible friend. Felt dirty riding it. SLX all the way for me if im on one of my pansy bikes with gears.

    A heavier bike/rider will go downhill quicker, as the ratio of weight to air resistance is larger.

    ^Only true in part.^ If the rider just free wheels down a straight hill and reaches their max velocity then I agree the heavier man+machine will be able to achieve a higher max speed as more momentum lets you punch through the air resistance.

    But if more weight equalled more speed. Downhillers would be riding iron girders and looking like Ronnie Coleman wouldn’t they?

    Ride what you can afford. But try a much lighter weight bike with sim geometry to your current set up and then ask the same question.

    More fun in taking the piss outta your mates who’s bikes are heavier than yours an making them feel really cheap and poor.

    On a serious note. My bikes are as light as I can afford. Why the hell would you want to buy something heavier? Maybe for some weird form of resistance training. Light bikes are easily manoeuvred especially in tight single track and when whooning through the air over gaps. Even in proper mountains I’d want a super light dh/enduro rig. As long it can cope with a beating.

    And another +1 for rider weight. Although more weight can be good if its due to an increase in muscle mass/power and not beer tubbyness.

    I think you need to take a look at your scales…, based upon my 24lb 456Ti.

    I ride all sorts inc , SS xc , downhill , cx all clipped in. Our xc rides usually involve some nice big gaps and jumps .
    I feel more in control of the bike clipped in . Can lean it harder , pedal harder and generally feel more at one with it.

    The only time i ride flats is when we are doing a dirt jump sesh ,bmx and when riding the big bike in the alps. Duno why i prefer the flats in the alps on the bouncy .

    micro gearing standard is 25:9 and I guess 27:10. Most cheaper bmxs dont have micro gearing. The goose has a 33 t front ring so im guessing its 12 on the back.

    The obsession with micro gearing is all fashion driven. Yes it does give more clearance if you drop into a vert at 90 degrees to it. And you do save a little weight. but seriously are your kids gonna even go anywhere near a vert ?

    Ask matt hoffman if he needed micro gearing back 10 years back?

    If you get them a bike with standard gearing it can be upgraded. but that involves a new wheel to as a 33 12 will most probably be running a freewheel and a 9t rear is sprocket /cassette type body .

    Could be upside down I guess. will have to take em out and re seat em. Im pretty sure I checked the old ones positioning and copied that . Is there a way to describe the ‘right way up’?

    Best tip is to fit some nice wide and stif bars. Really helps up hill and I think it massively helps to be clipped in. Sometimes you can work some voodoo magic and get a perfect chain tension without a chain tensioner with vertical drops. i did this on my kona caldera by running a 32 16 , kmc kool chain and 1 half link from a bmx chain. was so sweet. No noise. Now I have a cove HJ and I couldnt work the magic so had to use a surly singulator.

    What Keva said is good advice. Never pass on the left unless you know lights have just gone red and even then I’d filter on the outside.

    hi mate, you’re right. the routing through the steerer is not good in terms of cable friction as it creates some super tight bends in the outer. it needs a bmx lever to work to. also bmx brakes are quite flexy . if ur caliper looks like the one pictured then id say its gonna flex like rubber so the lever will come back to the bar. I would bin the front brake and just use a rear. Get rid of any giro and just use a longer cable. if ur practising barspins (ive been trying for a year) get a linear cable outer for the rear. Its like gear cable outer and doesnt compress so wont tighten as much when it gets wrapped round the steerer during spins.

    I do it once a week . I do one called urban krav maga which is more UK orientated ( less gun defense and more knife/baseball bat). I love it. Much more confident should I have to defend myself or friends.

    I also teach bikeability at schools in croydon. Majority of schools want children to ride as it goes well with their green policies. Maybe you could mention this. Lots of councils even offer cash for bike sheds.

    Some high schools refuse to let kids ride if they haven’t attained bikeability level 2. If this is the case , get her on a course. Most councils subsidise lessons. eg. Anyone who lives or works in croydon is entitled to 4 hours free 121 tuition.

    In reality what can they do if you ride to school and lock her bike up in the school car park with a descent lock. Not much.

    I bought a CX bike as my work and race bike. I couldnt afford to replace my road bike that got stolen. Got a good deal on the forum and have slowly upgraded it so its nice and light. I love to race cross on it but never really take it out for off road rides. Got 2 mtbs for that . It does however also get used as my work bike as I teach safe road cycling at schools. Its perfect for that. 2 sets of wheels and cassettes. Ill happily race road next year on it to but hopefully I will buy a road frame and fork when I have the cash.

    Id say get a road bike if you can as I dont find CX bikes near as much fun as a MTB. Unless you want to race CX.

    I know some gnarly chics. My friend Anna is pretty damn freeride on any bike you put her on. She is running some female training courses to get the girls some skills. Here is a pic of her clearing a lengthy tabletop at muddy hell on a cx bike. The difference with her is that she started racing really young.

    Another question . After bonking it down some stairs I can only seem to get it to move 120mm. The guy that sold it to me said that its previous owner had serviced and set to travel to 150mm. The stantions seem to be showing 150mm from seal to crown? is that the indicator of travel length?

    Nice one. All the air is out and still seems quite firm . So might take a spring out as you suggested . But Will have to see how they perform on some nice gaps etc first.

    Hi mate, yes I know they are coil forks. The same as my 55 tst 2 which I run at about 6psi with a low pressure shock pump.
