Impressed! But I really shouldn’t read these posts!
    Every time McM builds anything I am left with a deep feeling of;

Disappointment in my own DIY ability,
    SEVERE log envy,
Wistful thoughts of every having enough space to attempt anything similar…

    <sobs into mug of tea>
    <goes back to work>

    EDIT

I do love a mcmoonter thread, however hopelessly inadequate it makes me feel

Beaten again! Now I feel even more inadequate…

There must be an echo in here, but as an equine vet (who by definition only really sees broken ones) I concur that they are a flipping expensive hobby! What between the food, treats, tack, rugs, more food, washing rugs, entry fees, food, shoes, supplements and food…

That said, when it’s going well it is a fantastically rewarding pass-time, but for heavens sake get some insurance! (but please, please, PLEASE don’t use EandL or any of their derivatives, they’re an absolute nightmare to deal with!)

Also I’m sure you’ve got this in hand, but make sure that the debtor has written a receipt you’ve both signed for them “gifting” you the horse. I’ve seen receipts for 1p before now, but it makes the process a bit more binding.

    Have a great time!

Cheers all, it’s slipping in the steerer tube, not the bars. I did apply a small bit of anti-slip to the bolts before fitting. The torque wrench is only the cheap/cheerful superstar one so it could be a bit out.

I’m up for the group ride, live Petersfield way but have an itch to explore around the Punchbowl area. Count me in if it happens!
And again ++ for Tamed Earth. I haven’t used them much but whenever I’ve popped in they’ve been more than helpful.

Another plug for Cycleworks here. My LBS is their branch in Petersfield, but use Haselmere regularly too. Good shops who try to carry most spares. Bought my roadbike 2nd hand from a chap in the Guildford store too.
Not been into Beyond on quite a while, I always found them quite expensive though.
Nirvana and P&S always have a very good rep but haven’t been into either.

Brilliant this has turned into an ‘are conservatories shit or not’ thread. Only on STW.

    I agree, is disappoint…

When we went to Crete in October last year when we were out in the car touring around I was surprised to see a lot of folk with MTB’s and fatbikes.
Didn’t go riding myself, but definitely saw more some the western end of the island (Chania), and a more still towards the southern coast.
Most folk were in pads, but no full face helmets (if that’s anything to judge the gnar by!)
Can’t help more than that, but there is definitely riding to be had.

“You small that? Do you smell that? Napalm son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning… Smells like victory.”

    AND

“I know what you’re thinking. ‘Did he fire six shots or only five’? Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well do ya, punk?”

I love that one…if only the Mrs appreciated it…

OP, drop me an email (in profile), I’m local to QECP (Rogate) and would be more than happy to join you on your jumps/drops sessioning.
I ride a Cotic Soul, but am (at the moment) a wheels on the ground kind of rider. Any excuse to improve would be gratefully received!
I’ve been to Swinley a couple of times and made some improvement on the swoopy/jumpy run there (although I’ve no idea what its called)
Standard advice is to book a session with Jedi, and later on this summer I fully intend to!
Hope to hear from you soon.

I could be interested in this, but am no longer ‘that’ local to SH.
Now living down near Petersfield which makes it about an hour each way by car.
Used to ride there bit (and still do), but never really felt like I knew where more than half the trails were!

What sort of riding were you looking for? A patriot is quite a lot of bike unless you’re one of those people who ride the drops on Pitch Hill without hesitation. I tend to look at those more in a mixed state of wonder and terror!

Hopefully some more people might join the bandwagon and we’ll see if we can get this off the ground.
I can’t do Thursdays thought, as I cover the on-call then.

If your looking at doing any amount of landscape work I’d thoroughly recommend a polariser filter. The screw in ones are easy but you will need to keep buying different ones for different lenses.
The 18-55 you have takes a 52mm filter.

I use HOYA Pro-1 ones and have found them pretty faultless.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000KL7JF8
I say this as polarisers are about the only effect you cant do in photoshop software. They work wonders to bring out the deeper colours of foliage, and you can also use them to change reflections on water.
Just be careful when using the wide aspect of your lens (18-35mm) as you can end up with some quirky effects in the sky if you over-polarise!

A course is a must! I went on 3/4 when I first got my DSLR. Shoot in RAW and try not to use any of the “auto” settings. My default is to use A and control the aperture but let the camera sort out shutter speed. Manual (M) isn’t as mind blowing as you’d think though. I find my nikon pretty good as Auto White Balance though, and if shooting in RAW you can also tweak it afterwards in lightroom/photoshop.

I really rate ThinkTank for bags, and use one of their Retrospective range. LOADS of room inside, a broad shoulder strap and it doesn’t look like a camera bag. I still have a rucksack for walking, but got pretty tired of having to take it off to change lenses/get filters out.

Also, consider a BlackRapid Sport strap. I KNOW it seems a lot for a shoulder strap (well it IS a lot for a shoulder strap) but having had one for about a year I can honestly say its an investment I couldn’t live without now. Means I can carry my DSLR all day and not have to worry about it either slipping off my shoulder, or giving me a bad back!

    Hope that helps!

64/65, but I think I’m stumped on the toy soldiers, as mentioned previously they are a different clue from the monkeys.
Tried every combination of …. soldiers I can think of, but no joy.
Alternatively I just cant see the last clue.

Got most of them without googling/checking on the thread but some were really obscure. And that frying pan, that took ages!

I don’t know what is in the parcel, but it doesn’t rattle so unfortunately it cant be lego.
The frustrating thing is that the blasted parcel is meant for one of the houses across the road, about 30ft away, which clearly has the correct door number attached to the wall! Either delivery-chap was in such a frantic rush that the first house in the road(us) would do, or they just cant see very well!

As above, Concept 2’s are the go-to rower IMO. They also do hold their value very well, and if well maintained in your possession I doubt you’d have too much bother selling it on. I haven’t got one now but as a student rower at university, living in a house full of rowers, we all chipped in and bought one from a defunct gym. Bolted on the more modern data screen and used it for 3 years. Sold it on for about £50 less than we bought it for.

Another BIG + for Great Rock (Ed).
Was bought a his Stop Crashing 1 course as a present last year.
Headed up to Gisburn to cash it in on the Saturday and had such a good experience I was back there on the Sunday for some Stop Crashing 2!

Really nice bloke, encouraging and with a good sense of humour.
The chap is insanely quick when he lets go as well. I was behind him (pedalling) on a section of trail back to the carpark and he was getting SO much more speed by pumping what to me appeared to be almost a flat section. Clearly I must try harder!

I have yet to book a Jedi day though so can’t really claim to be independent.

    Same shoes, same problem!
I have come the the same conclusion, that it is the shoes that are too tight.
I tend to loosen off the laces a bit which seems to solve it. It is less of a problem in the winter with thicker socks on though, so I suspect there is a pressure point somewhere.
It doesnt bother me enough to change the shoes though as I quite like them in every other respect!

Home for me is Rogate, but I can’t confess to being all that familiar with the immediate area! Done a couple of night rides recently and found a whole network or trails in variable condition up in there, not really managed to make a sensible route out of it though.
I’m away for a couple of weeks but when I’m back I’ll send you a message to see you we can cobble something together!
Will bookmark the thread too….waits with interest for any more info…..

You can put a straight steerer fork into a tapered headset frame, just get the right lower headset bits. It’s what I did when moving from a P7.

The reason I’m looking a new forks is that the P7’s ones are an equally aged set of Fox Van R’s, and I was going to take the chance to fit something a little more advanced!

I’m currently waging a one man war on Knotweed in our (partly) and our neighbours (mostly) gardens.
Agricultural strength neat Glyphosate (roundup) is doing the trick, just pop out into the garden twice weekly and liberally daub it on to anything our side of the fence!
I’ve taken to pouring it over into the neighbours garden which also appears to be making some progress.
It certainly seems less keen to poke its little head above ground level now, but I expect it will be a long term exercise to rid it completely.

Whilst it is by no means impossible I would doubt that your neighbours knotweed would come under the road, but it does go down a LONG way (3m I think!).
