I’ve got the Sirui one in the link above. Bought it 3 years ago for a trip to Morocco. It’s not as fancy as some but does the job very well. However…it’s small and light with quite thin legs, so does suffer from wind vibration and ‘tripod bounce’ when you’re not using a 5 second delay or a remote release.
It takes my d810 with f4 lenses, but does struggle a bit with the 70/200 f4 with filters. That is more the ball head though so if you’ve got your own lightweight one it may not be a problem to you.
I’ve just bought a CF 4 section 055 tripod as my main one, which will be taken everywhere I can, but for a lightweight travel tripod the Sirui is hard to beat despite its drawbacks.

In fairness though you seem to have everything covered.
Only thing I might add is a mat/rug to go on the floor in front of the fire as ours occasionally spits when the door is opened. We’ve just got a bit of old carpet which we roll up and hide behind the sofa when the fire isn’t in.

A good set of fire-tools will be useful too, I use the poker and the tongs of ours the most.
I think ours cost about £15 from a second-hand shop in town, so don’t spend masses

    Well I….

Got up at 5am to (leaving Mrs BD in bed) to drive to Shropshire to do an veterinary training day on equine artificial insemination (yep, basically brushing up on my horse sperm knowledge).
I then left Shropshire, ate some tea in a greasy spoon café on the way home, arrived home at 22:20 with Mrs BD in bed, made a cup of tea, spilt it coming up the stairs, swore loudly, woke Mrs BD up, grovelled, then went to sleep.
    No cards
    No choc
    No flowers
and a day of studying (horse) sperm…

Not sure what I win, but it isn’t a prize!

    Yep, I’ve made one too.
Went to B&Q for the bits here, threaded rod was the most annoying bit IIRC as I had to buy far more than I was ever going to need! Just hacksawed it to the right length and put the rest in the back of the shed.
Worked quite well with just the washers, but I did modify it a bit to use some bits of wood (ply) rather than metal washers on my new shiny hope headset as I was slightly paranoid about marking it.
That said I didn’t mark any of the headsets before the hope with just the washers!
Crack on, you’ll save a fortune!

    Personally LCE every time!
Jessops have no stores near me at all (think 60miles away) so all problems would need to go via email.
Also every member of LCE staff I’ve ever spoken to seems to know their stuff, far more so than Jessops. I’ve always been impressed with the quality of advice, which is sometimes NOT to buy something. Maybe I’ve just been lucky with my LCE experiences but unless Jessops were hugely cheaper I don’t think I’d shop there preferentially.

    Morning!
I’ve used them for part ex several times, changing a d7000 for a d810, and then swapping several DX lenses for full frame ones.
Each time I’ve had good service, the price quoted was the minimum I received. They paid me more for one of my lenses as they didn’t think the wear on it was a bad as I implied!
I’d use them again without hesitation, it’s just a bit of a pain having to post to Norwich!
I had tried London Camera Exchange as there are a couple of branches near me, but Wex were better on price and offers on subsequently purchased gear.

We’re with the NFU for building and contents. We ha to claim for water damage last year and the service was faultless. It’s a bit of a faff having to ring them for a quote as they have no internet based system, but I would recommend them whole heartedly.
Bikes are in a shed outside and that wasn’t a problem.
I’ve also go a whole load of DSLR kit listed with them, and away from home cover which seems pretty foolproof. Sadly insurance is a “get what you pay for” thing and takes hours of your life to organise….every…single…year…

    I’m a Dicky here too.
To comment on Cougars’ post I was first called Dicky by my father, probably before I can remember to be honest, but actually came to quite like it and went through school and uni being a Dicky. Rather annoyingly once I began to work I was seemingly forced to revert to Richard again as no one in the office could seem to cope with Dicky. Sigh…
I know other options are available but frankly I hate Rich, Rick and in particular Ricky! Don’t know why, they don’t seem to be “me”.
I don’t find dick a particularly offensive insult, it’s always seemed a bit tongue in cheek to me, now there are some other terms I’m not too keen on…

I also know where you mean, and agree with chakaping that its and odd place to find them. It looks like half a box you’ve got there!
MTB’s or motorbikers aside given the length of those things if a horse were to embed one it its foot it could quite easily be an horrendously expensive hospitalisation trip, or at worst cause a fatal infection.
Is there a horsey forum for the area around Rivi? Might be worth dropping them a line.

I’ve been out to Tenerife about a dozen times, making use of the parents timeshare!

Los Gigantes is a fairly good shout, the new motorway around the south coast makes getting there a fairly easy affair. I can recall when it took hours bouncing on local tracks/roads.
You don’t need to stay in LG specifically, there are some quite good hotels just along the coast to the east.
Walking is good, but you may struggle to make a circular walk work. The classics are Baranco Del Inferno, but I haven’t walked this in years and believe they now operate a permit systems with limited numbers each day. To be honest I mostly remember turning up to find the path was closed for no particular reason.
The route from Masca down to Masca Bay and the boat back to Los Gigantes is another good walk. You’ll be in shade most of the day due to the height of the gorge walls but there is good swimming off of a jetty when you do reach the see. If you’re lucky you can see dolphins during the boat ride back.
Also, if you’re feeling slightly masochistic the walk up Teide is a cracker. It can be quite windy/chilly at the top and the fact you ascend from basically sea level can make the final couple of Km seem quite knackering. You can then get a 1-way ride down on the cable car, or walk the route in reverse to get down. If you do this walk, go early and park in the footpath car park about 2km beyond the cable-car car park, its small and fills up quite quickly, but always used to be free!

You can also walk on top of the cliffs at Masca by parking the car and heading west from the top of the road before it begins to descend into masca. Again, this is a there and back again walk, no loop possible.

Sun, stay in the south. The wind direction is normally quite kind, so sea facing balconies/terraces should be OK. The weather is generally good, but you will quite often get good mornings, then midday cloud, and a good evening.
If you get sick of the sun then head to the north coast for a daytrip, as has been mentioned it is a totally different island up there, and the road which runs along the spine of the mountains is positively tropical in places.

We stay inland of Los Christianos at a place called Chayofa.

If you want to go to Los Christianos try and stay up the hill a bit, generally the nearer you are to the sea the more built-up it is. Also, at the risk of sounding disgustingly middle class, if you don’t want all night music, legless louts and an STI, avoid Las Americas.

Any more queries let me know.

Good god! Mine is made out of pallets!

However, I guess that it should be marketed as a shabby chic, up-cycled, rustic, hand crafted wood storage vessel manufactured of authentic industrial wood and artisan fashioned to preserve the original oil stains, chips, scuffs and defects acquired during this products’ original life as a….pallet.

Do they also do a side business polishing turds?

Another out of stock email here, haven’t tried the voucher code but it’s a bit poor if they don’t work either! I hadn’t used CC before so it’s a bit of a shame it’s been a mess this time, it’s hardly encouraged me to use them again.

I’ll second FunkyDunc and say my Nao is a cracking light. Sure, it’s not featherweight but you honestly don’t notice it at all when wearing it. The intelligent lighting is clever, but sometimes baffled a bit by mist or fine rain. Battery life on high beam is quite short, but to be honest when do you want to have THAT much light all the time.
I use mine for hiking and for work and it hasn’t put a foot wrong yet.

Another decent walk is up to Lumb Falls if it’s a nice day, the waterfall has a decent plunge pool to have a swim in, and you can throw yourself in from a fairly crazy height in both the left and right hand sides of the valley. I’ve been there a couple of times when it’s been heaving though, that can make getting a comfortable spot to sit a bit tricky.

    Evening all,

I think I have a solution which involves buying the “wrong” pole for an Ultra Quasar from Terra Nova and then stripping it for the individual sections.
Big hats off to the chaps at Cotswold Outdoors in Bakewell and Islington for kindly opening up their Ultra Quasar stock tents to measure the length of the sections for me! You were frankly a lot more use than TN and I owe you a beer!

I will see how I get on,

Many thanks for the offer sweepy but I think that they will be too wide for the narrow islets on the tent.

    and crikey…

There’s got to be an answer in that lot.

Would that it were so simple!

That will prob be the way I’ll go, I can get a DAC pole with a very similar total length (3600mm) from Germany if I buy a load of individual sections and re-use the end caps from the bent pole I’ve got.
It seems there are as many “standards” in tent poles as there are in bottom brackets and hubs!

I had a similar thing from a rugby stud injury a few years ago.
Got it swabbed at the GP and was told it was a Staph aureus infection, cleared up quickly enough with antimicrobials but can remember it itched horribly for a few days!
I later learned that S. aureus tends to live up ones nose, so picking your nose and your scabs is ill advised!

Also says knee pads are sold individually??

I saw that, thought it was a bit odd. I’d assumed that knee pads would be left/right leg specific.
