Got a v1 WRX. It’s great fun, even if I have a cambelt + water pump bill coming up very soon.

My advice would be to do frequent oil changes with decent oil and add a thicker rear ARB.

    Julie?

    Is that you?

Yeah, I did go in a bit strong – I apologise jimjam. I blame having a rubbish cold, a lack of paracetamol, and dreading my office’s Christmas party this evening (in case they talk about stuff I don’t want to hear about).

It just touched a nerve for the above reason.

I’m sorry, burchill, but what are you on? jimjam started an off-topic thread. That’s kind of what this whole forum is for: discussion of bikes, and other stuff.

What right do you have to challenge someone over a thread they have started, if it’s not obscene or nasty?!?

Do you go into a pub, listen in on someone’s conversation, then attack them for talking about something you didn’t want to hear about?!?

Go, make yourself a hot chocolate, and chill out.

    Hi SaxonRider?!?

I just thought it was slightly insensitive, given that the other side of this is (potentially) a family who are wondering where their beloved pet is, s’all.

Haven’t seen ‘what are you on?’ being used for years, so thanks for lightening my mood.

I’m guessing but if I go through your post history I presume I’ll see that you’ve taken the time to admonish each and every one of these moronic thread starters in a similar fashion and also a long and worthy list of awesome threads that you’ve created?

Only the ones that stoop to certain levels.

Oh sorry, I didn’t realise there was already a semi official road kill thread ongoing. I searched for catricide threads but it didn’t return any results.

I appreciate your due diligence, but there are already plenty of other moronic threads available on the first page – you didn’t need to start your own.

Very good gloves for the price I keep a couple of pairs as spares in the house and van

Bought a pair after reading your recommendation – they’re great value for money! Thanks.

I’ve done 4500 miles so far on a Sram drivetrain with 105 cassette, on a second-hand but hardly-used bike. The BB30 bearings started creaking about 1000 miles ago, but they quietened back down after 200 miles or so.

I think I’ve cleaned it once, and even that was a quick one-over with fairy liquid. Going to run it into the ground then change to 1x.

Just remember to log in before you apply the code. They “accidentally on purpose” seem to forget you’ve added it once you log in, and then you can’t add it again. Just learnt the hard way whilst buying a new reverb

You can call BC and explain this, and they’ll generate a new one. Happened to me a few months ago.

You’re welcome to mine if they refuse/you can’t be bothered. Same goes to anyone else if Dave doesn’t require it.

What are you doing tomorrow? I’m in Cambridge, have the day off, and have my bike with me. Was planning to cycle to Saffron Walden (or wherever!) if you fancy it?

I have plenty of experience in what you’re going through, too, so we can go for a decent pedal and good chat.

Email in profile, let me know!

Just to add – I have my mountain bike here too if you prefer to get muddy!

4.8 out of 5 on the Amazon reviews too.

Makes me despair on 2 levels.

The lack of morality to be able to come up with it and sell it.

Secondly that people actually buy it.

Probably a few rich guys on yachts laughing their heads off at the life they have made selling salt as a premium product.

    This sums it up.

Clement Strada LGG – in budget, gumwall-coloured rubber (easy to clean), decent in all weathers.

Corsa G+ aren’t an all-weather tyre, in as much as they appear to attract every speck of glass/flint/sharp grit if the ground is even slightly damp. 100% puncture guarantee, in my experience.

Wet grip (when inflated) is great, though.

CBA to play silly buggers speed up and slow down and speed up and slow down and lane hop to try and go at 70 in nose-tail traffic
Its clearer in lane 1, because middle lane hoggers + shark pack
    I’m drafting an artic
I feel like it, you know it is within the legally allowable sphere of driving speeds etc?
I’ve got my digestive biscuit sized spare wheel fitted

Have a car with 3″ straight pipe and short ratio gearbox.

Ever since I bought a weekend car with the above ‘features’, I’ve taken to driving at 60 on motorways to avoid being deafened and bankrupt.

Such a stress-free experience compared to being caught up in the 80mph traffic jam in lane 3.

They roll horrendously slowly and feel horrible – maybe ok for a commute but they’ll suck any enjoyment out of your weekend rides.

I’m running 25c Clement Stradas for my commute, and I’m not going to tempt fate but the only p*ncture I’ve had was faulty inner tube-related. Even the Lifeline tyres I ran beforehand were better (i.e. faster and just as puncture-free) than the Gatorskins before them.

This seems like a lot of faff

I initially thought this, but persevered because I was interested by the claims that this study made: https://www.scribd.com/document/262044061/Velo-Friction-Facts-Chain-Lube-Efficiency-Tests

Turns out it’s actually far quicker and easier because the wax mixture just sits in the pot waiting for the next cooking session.

The chain is noticeably smoother, too, and seems to repel any kind of moisture/grime.

The slowest part is waiting for the cooker to melt the wax – if you had a camping stove or whatever I imagine you could do it in under ten minutes. As it stands, I can get it done in fifteen minutes, waiting ten minutes for Argos’s finest to get up to temperature.

    burchill

I’d definitely recommend a garage-only slowcooker. I bought one for £8.50 from Argos a month or so ago.

My current recipe is (sorry in advance for using technical language):

    Ingredients:
    – Two big handful for paraffin wax pellets
    – Smaller handful of beeswax pellets
    – Decent squirt of Halfords Dry Lube (for the Teflon)

    Procedure:
    – Cook chain in first big handful of paraffin pellets to clean it.
    – Pour out molten wax and wipe-clean cooking pot.
    – Add second paraffin handful to clean cooking pot, followed by beeswax and lube.
    – Cook chain, insert quick-links into chain whilst still warm (making sure to burn fingers).
    – Suspend from rickety old set ladder to solidify.

This is my best recipe yet, but the (supposed) Teflon powder I ordered from AliExpress arrived the other day so I’ll update after my next batch has been tested.

I should add that this is for my road bike rather than my mountain bike, so I’m not sure how the above would stand up to dirt.

You do need one above if it’s a carbon steerer

    Not necessarily: http://imgur.com/AofbCSj

It’s certainly do-able but the roads are pretty horrid – they’ll be a shock after 100 miles of no traffic.

Avoid Mile End Road/Bow Road if possible – I would go via Regents Canal and past Victoria Park for the quietest route (https://goo.gl/maps/BNHZkVuwj7F2).

Do you notice the front grill damage before they replaced it?

I’m guessing the pierced radiator dumped the coolant after the impact, and she’s warped the head by driving it until it overheated.

    I don’t not commute through RP/Priory Road… clearly we’ve met!

I thought I recognised the bike! I was going to ask if it was a Chinese carbon frame but thought that may be taken the wrong way. You’ve certainly inspired me to at least semi-pimp my commuter.

Since this thread came up I’ve bought a Deng Fu R04, it’s dead good. 50mm wheels from a random seller on AliExpress. Ultegra Di2 disc groupset, came out more or less dead on £2k. Like it a lot. Bought an all black Toupe for it since.

I soon as I read the first line I knew it would be ‘Moby Memory’.

I read their TrustPilot reviews and thought they must be legit – somehow I missed their comically-bad Google Reviews. They didn’t send me anything for weeks so didn’t even bother asking them for a refund and just went through Paypal – got a refund within an hour or so.

Would have thought the bulk of a BB would make life tricky in terms of clearance – not much room for the crank to pass by the swingarm.

Surely they’d be plenty of clearance? They won’t make the pivot shell as wide as the BB shell.
