I’ve used the DT Swiss converter on a rear wheel, also got hit for import duty. Wheel is all fine, I just re-dished the wheel and so far it’s been fine, I didn’t buy any new spokes or anything else.

I think the original demo versions that were made with the black chainstays had the cable routed on the top of the down tube, every frame after that runs underneath the downtube.

Just read the MBUK review of the bike in which they give it 3.5 stars, there’s very little they complain about other than the coil shock not feeling “poppy” enough, though you can spec what shock you want when you buy it, so it’s not really much of an issue. The rear brake hose does sometimes rub on the rear tyre, but it’s never caused me any fuss.

In slight comparison to the MBUK review (which i’ve not seen) the Dirt magazine loved the V1 Edit when they reviewed it last year.

Cheers wl I live in the Lakes so I’ll just wait until the demo fleets arrive in the shop that sell em.

Bowglie worth trying out the Flare Max it’s a really nice bike and Sam is doing plenty of demo days around the country that he should be near you soon. The Smuggler is also really nice I used to own one.

Not sure how much this will relate but my brothers hope pro 4 hub has a small spacer behind the cassette. When I switched a different cassette onto it I didn’t use that spacer (as I’ve never had one before) and I noticed a small amount of play which affected the gears.

Cheers Furious geo looks pretty good actually, not as short as their hardtails. If it will take 29 wheels then it’s even more tempting

Price is around the £1650 mark, so similar in price to Cotic Rocket, Orange 5, SC Bronson etc.

Starling Swoop is £1850 for a frame.

It is a bit weighty but the build on the pinkbike link is running 2.8 tyres I think so they’ll add a bit on weight wise. I quite like that it can run up to 2.8 tyres.

For comparison my Airdrop Edit weighs a little over 31lbs

Most frames after 2004/2005 started to use ISCG 05 for their frames. How old is the Alpitude? If it was released after 2005 it’s most likely the ISCG 05 version, pretty sure no modern frame uses the original ISCG anymore

Ha ha just bad light in the room I took the picture so it looks pretty rubbish I agree

Just some small scattered chips, no vertical wear lines or oil leakage. Fork is pretty new so is is good condition other than wherever these came from.

Oddly enough on a ride yesterday two chaps behind me were making similar comments in the opposite direction. They liked that Bird made long frames with low seat tubes and standover so you could fit longer dropper posts on them.

While I kind of agree I was wondering if it would cause issues for taller people who maybe don’t use a dropper and struggle to find a normal seat post to fit.

Had mine for 5-6 months, average 3 rides a week, not quite as smooth as it was from new but still feels good. Slight bit of lateral play at the saddle that was there from new but that’s not got any worse. I’ve got the external version and it was a doddle to set up, took about 5 minutes.

If you liked the longer stretched out position the Whyte put you in I’d probably go for a Mega in large size as they are more similar in size, but it all depends on how you like to ride and your personal preference on bike size.

So is a turn a full 360 degrees worth of turn, so the two outer adjusters (the larger gold ones) will turn 4 times (1440 degrees)?

Think my edit v1 frame weighed around 7.5lbs (with headset & shock), full build is about 31.5lbs I think

Time to start looking at OS maps and having a plot. Might do one version and then I’ll know for next time which bits are better for going up and which are more fun going down.

B.A.Nana is that loop using the bridleways that sit in between Settle and Malham Lings?

    bungalistic

B.A.Nana that’s good can’t be bothered with a slopfest so rocky and sheltered in parts is good.

The route you linked to smokey_jo I found elsewhere too but they kinda do it in reverse. Is one way better than the other for this loop?

I reckon they could keep their slightly short reach measurements if they only lopped an inch of the seat tube on each size. That way you could size up if needed and run a decent dropper post. I’d happily choose the large (even though i’m only 5’8″) and may just get away with a 150 internal dropper.

Looks like a decent bike, many people still won’t want to buy a 29er and also don’t feel the need for a longer travel bike like the Capra. It’s a good mid travel trail bike, similar to the Ibis HD3, not too slack not too heavy many people will like the idea of it. Though i’d rather have the 29 over the 27 version.

The fact they’ve also lengthened the top tube and reach on the Jeffsy 27 will also help (no idea why they didn’t do this for the Capra and Jeffsy 29 too).

Er, 1m80 is 5’11“ – where did you lot go to school!?

    Yup you’re right I was reading 5.9ft foot as 5ft 9inches when it is really 5ft 10.8inches

Give both Ben@Bird and Ed@airdrop an email and see what they suggest size wise, you can’t go wrong with either really.

    Edit:

    Ah, I see bungalistic’s error. It’s 5.9″, not 5’9″

Ha yeah I just noticed that too

    bungalistic

Also if you’re 180cm that’s more like 5’9″ than 6′ but if you have a large inside leg measurement or long arm the large may fit better

    bungalistic

At 180cm you’d probably be fine on a medium. Though you could size up and try a large Edit with short stem.

I’m 5’8″ (around 176cm) and riding medium with short stem (40mm) and it feels pretty good. After talking with Ed he suggested the medium and he was correct.

Not ridden any of the Aeris’ so can’t comment on them.

Have ridden and do own the v1 Edit and it’s really good. Not the lightest of bikes out there so maybe the Aeris is better in that regard but the weight is only noticeable when you’re carrying up the hills in the Lake District.

Take the cranks off the Spectral and have look? The Bird will need a new bottom bracket as it’s a regular threaded one rather than the push fit one on the Spectral.

Hope do a bottom bracket for 30mm axle cranks if they do turn out to be that. If the cranks on the bike are Shimano they’ll be 24mm so it’s easy to find a new bottom bracket to fit.

PP Shan GT has quite a short reach, I’ve got one in a large and reach is 428mm that’s about 25mm shorter than my medium sized full suss frame.

Don’t find the shorter reach an issue though, stem is 10mm longer on the Shan and seat angle is slacker too so feels roomy enough when seated.

Worth trying out the Sherpa if you can as even though the reach is shorter you might find it feels ok, same for the Solaris too.

The Chromag Rootdown BA has a reach of 473mm for a large frame and 492mm for a xlarge frame.

I’ve used the boostinator kit on a DT Swiss hub and it was easy enough to dish the wheel, shame they don’t make the kits for more hub types

    I’m 5’8″

    I have a medium(18″) full suss 27.5 with a reach of 453mm
    Also have a large(18″) 29 hardtail with a reach of 425mm

Neither feels too big or too small just different and clearly have different ideas on bike geometry etc

I’ve posted frames and such in the last few years and never had any issues. However I had to send a shock back for warranty recently and used DPD pick up service. Cost a little bit more but was top notch service, picked up on time and delivered the next day. They even send you text messages/emails with pick up times and delivery confirmation.

I’m a shade under 5’8″ and my bike (Airdrop Edit in medium) has a reach longer than that of a Large Capra. For me the geometry of YT bikes is too short.

I have looked at the large Jeffsy previously but to get the length I feel comfortable on I’d need a large and i’d struggle slightly with standover on the 19″ large frame. I was hoping they’d increase the reach or reduce the seatpost length for the 2017 range.

As always everyone is different so worth seeing if someone does have a large and xlarge for you to sit on and try out.

In this months issue of singletrack they said the Minion DHF WT 2.5 measured up around 2.49, not sure what size rim that was on though.

There was also an article on facebook too by Bird MTB where he discussed maxxis tyre sizes and rim widths using the standard 2.5 vs the WT 2.5 Minion

Orange 5 maybe, though probably over budget for most of their builds.

Whyte T129 or Specialized Camber or Stumpy if you’re considering a 29er.

Is the Giant Trance still a 140mm trail bike? They’re usually decent value.

http://www.southcoastsuspension.co.uk/ I’ve used here in the past, if all it needs is a service it’s pretty well priced and turn arounds are decent. Nice chap to talk to also.
