Have Pikes changed since 2015 or is this essentially the same as a 2017 Pike RC?

The seal head on the charger damper changed in 2016 to an SKF as they old one leaked and required a bleed to the damper more frequently.

I live in Craig y Don, Llandudno.

Originally from the N.Wales coast but spent the majority of my 20’s in Liverpool / Wirral for Uni and job. Moved back due to having a city wage job available in N.Wales and starting a family I couldn’t think of many places better to bring a child up.

Love the place – scenery is stunning, riding is ace with endless possibilities and the activities for kids if they like the outdoors is amazing. Other facilities (general shopping) is mainly catered for and I rarely feel the need to visit a city for anything like that.

In certain areas of the coast, including Llandudno/Deganwy/Conwy, new restaurants and wine bars are popping up and the existing ones getting much better with a real push to quality. You can see the shift and the area is really starting to take shape and is much better than when I ‘left’ at 18/19.

In terms of schools; its Welsh Primary and Secondary if you go away from the coast so bear that in mind.

I don’t get the issue from my experience; I bought my first house with then girlfriend at 23 years old in 2010 for £135k. Salaries where £20k each. We then sold that for same price and bought second home for £186k on a joint salary 50k. We sold that 3 years later for £60k profit and bought our house now for £205k and spent £20k renovating – it’s now worth £300k with a mortgage of £200k on a joint salary of £70k. We haven’t been ‘lucky’ on house purchases – simply bought the right house in the right area and renovated it sensibly.

In my area – N.Wales and Chester house prices are certainly reachable and there’s still money to be made.

I thought that related to the diesel engines.

I had a knocking on mine on big hits – turned out to be because the charger damper needed a bleed which is easy enough to do.

    – Bike boxes – I like this idea (cheap) – are there special spacers / packing materials which should be used to protect various parts? Any tips for effective packing?

I got a box big enough to keep the rear wheel on and I bubble wrapped the whole bike (cheap bubble wrap off of eBay). Taped the box using fake gorilla tape and then wrapped it in parcel wrap. I took a spare roll of tape for the way home.

Box choice is important – Apollo boxes seem the strongest – my local Halfords let me into the back to choose a box.

Never had a problem transporting my bikes this way!

I’ve used an Apollo box from Halfords for my past two trips to Morzine – think about how your bike was originally sent when new!!

I’ve always taken two mech hangers, spare mech, spare tyres, few tubes, tubeless sealant, two sets of brake pads and tools I don’t normally carry in my car such as BB and cassette removers just in case.

Other than that, I made sure I have two sets of complete clothing so one can dry out. Think I took three sets of shorts and jerseys aswell. Last year we have 3 days of rain, luckily late afternoon but as said when its wet, it is wet but generally dries out quickly. I’d take a set of waterproofs aswell.

is it paired as a power source or a controllable trainer.

mine appeared to forget the controllable trainer pairing last week but i was in the middle of a race before I realised. re-pair it and control came back.

Good shout – will take a look at that aswell.

I have to say, reading all these posts, the T2240 isn’t looking to be quite the bargain we first thought is it ?

Quite! Worked great for the first month – didn’t use it for a week and now the resistance isn’t changing – strange really. At first I thought it was the fact I was using an iPad but I remembered that I’d done two rides on the iPad with no problems before.

Maybe it’s time to go and get a replacement.

Anyone had issues on their T2240 Flow trainer not changing resistance whilst hooked up to Zwift running on an ipad? Re started trainer and ipad but it didn’t work.

Trainer is only a month or so old.

Similar to yourself really although I have a semi informal expenses sheet I use. I also split my money into different accounts; fuel, main savings, birthday/Christmas savings etc which seems to work for me.

I also set myself £200 a month ‘expenses’ for social bits, clothes, bike bits etc so realistically that’s 10% of monthly income.

It’s just struck me as crazy generally that the pram of all things has become such a status symbol. It just seems accepted that you have to budget HUNDREDS for a pram when the time comes, when if people wised up about their priorities for 5 seconds they’d realise it was total BS

Same thing could be said about anything though; a £500 road bike does the same thing as a £5000 one for us mere mortals who wouldn’t notice much difference.

People have varying degrees of money and attitudes to things; some people including myself like and will pay for well made things have don’t fall apart in a year or two’s time.

Clothing straight in the washer or in the sink then the washer depending on dirt level.

Shoes and pads are wiped with a damp cloth then placed on a shelf above the boiler in the utility room – usually dry the following day.

Long time user of flats until probably 9 months ago – ride a variety of trails including steep stuff and blacks like you on both a DH and trail bike.

Bought a pair of Shimano AM9 and some Time Atac pedals and I can honesty say I won’t be going back to flats. Did a sloppy day at Nant G N.Wales just before Christmas on them and never had a problem.

My fear before being clipped in was not being able to clip out and back in quick enough but with a bit of practice that’s no longer a fear of mine.

My climbing on both fire roads and technical climbing has improved and so has the ability to control the bike on descents.

I would say the type of pedal you use is important though.

Used the chainreaction own brand valves which usefully have a rubber o ring underneath the knurled ring so gives a good seal to the rim.

Should never make any difference, the rim itself shouldn’t be pressurised.

True but it helps to stop air escaping if there is a slight issue with air getting in to the rim. Likewise it helps to ensure a full seal for the valve itself.

Just done this with a new set of enudro tech wheels. Cleaned the rims even though they new. Two wraps of 25mm gorilla tape then a tiny little hole made by knife then I ‘threaded’ the valve in through the tape.

Used the chainreaction own brand valves which usefully have a rubber o ring underneath the knurled ring so gives a good seal to the rim.

Used the new stans race sealant and hans damp / magic mary tires – pumped up to 50psi to sit tyre and not reduced in pressure over the last 4 days.

Sounds like you’ve got a leak in the gorilla tape?

Egg pram – expensive but very well made compared to the competitors, folds and unfolds using one hand.

Looked at the Uppababy Vista 2 but massive and very utilitarian for a pram IMHO – depends what you’re I suppose.

We went through a similar thing to the OP on our last purchase last year; homebuyer report reported worst rating to the electrics and boiler/gas because the consumer unit wasn’t in accordance with the latest regs and the boiler didn’t have a test certificate.

Consumer units requirements change all the time and how many home owners have a boiler and test certificate every year?

Its arse covering on their part – its been said many times before but a homebuyer report isn’t worth the paper its written on.

Something like this looks interesting as I tend to keep my kit in the bag all the time (apart from the shoes/pads which are normally drying at this time of year!)

Contact Innerleithen Lets – I’ve booked 5 places with them in the last few years. Prices normally around £300 for 3 nights so cheap split between 6 people.

Riverview is the best place we’ve stayed at so far.

Yep mine arrived. Although the pair I ordered for my gf are now spare as she has changed her mind and wants something flashier.

So I have a pair of fuel exs on fuel hubs. I’ll return them but if anyone wants them for the 125 I paid plus postage I’d happily send them instead.

    27.5 or 26″? Interested if 26″

I’d stay in or around Coed y Brenin – there is a place called Cae Gwyn Farm which I’ve stayed at before (even though I live on the N.Wales coast!) which almost opposite the entrance – converted barn, owner really accommodating and will cook breakfast although there’s a microwave to make your porridge. Has secure bike lockup too.

From that area I’d suggest a day at Dyfi forest, taking in some natural stuff and finishing on the ClimachX descents. Also suggest CyB Beast or MBR for some miles. You aren’t far from Penmachno/Marin which you can link up to make another long ride.

I’ve got some gpx for Dyfi – around 30 miles which is ace – email me if you want.

Maybe an expert can confirm but my understanding is:

If a car is missing certain crash avoidance technology e.g. radar controlled emergency braking then no matter how good it’s crash performance is than it is limited to 3 stars

Also since the ratings get change over the years they get become harder to achieve so you can’t make a comparison between a car tested now and another tested umpteen years ago

We are talking about a car tested in 2011 – at which time they didn’t include crash avoidance measures so could easily reach 5 stars. As a better comparison lets use a Fiat Panda – 2011 – 4 star according to NCAP!

    buenfoxa

I’d also look at the NCAP rating – how any manufacturer can produce a car in this day and age with a rating of 3 is beyond me; a 2001 BMW 3 Series got a 4 star!
