    Move over BikeRadar; https://electricbikereview.com/

The demographics drop into the 50 somethings http://www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/2009/09/electric-bike-demographics.html

    I need a life

Edit: That said, what if the Govt gave grants for people buying ebikes? I think they assist eCar owners, is an eCar not a car?

In the Alps this year I saw lots of 50-60 typically fat couples having fun using eBikes to tour around the edge of a lake, thats about it for me. That said, it would be a laugh doing a long multi day adventure on an eBike, oh wait

Joking aside, log term effects from multiple minor knocks/concussion are scary

Just get fit instead of dressing being lazy up with a fancy electric moped.

If the bearings are set inside the head tube, how does it ‘knock’? Ive seen loose headsets rattle (not on my bikes though!) but I still cant see how it would ovalise the head tube as the headset cups would protect it Id have thought

These two articles on Vital sum everything up for me and are well worth a read:

    http://www.vitalmtb.com/features/Opinion-When-Does-Risk-Outweigh-the-Reward-How-Red-Bull-Rampage-Changed-Our-Perspective,932

    then

    http://www.vitalmtb.com/features/After-the-Crash-Red-Bull-Steps-Up-Basagoitia-on-the-Mend-Positive-Changes-for-Rampage-and-the-Bike-I,937

I think the rider are ‘progression junkies’; riding local trails and jumps as kids – pushing to do more tricks etc. combined with natural talent/courage gets them to this place. I dont think they can stop it

As I don’t live in huge mountains, half the fun is finding deer trails, cheeky lines etc and riding them, maybe bad but at night they are a hoot. Bridle-paths are just a means to an end

More bones were broken in probably the TdF or the Olympic road race than at Rampage. Medics were on scene faster at Rampage than at either of the highest profile road cycling events of the year. There were 2 or 3 choppers on standby for medivac at all times.
The fact the riders are able to decide if they will run or not in the conditions also puts some of the power back with them. The event did feel like it was more facilitated by redbull but run by riders who really did know what they were doing.

    Very good points

What I always wonder is – who actually drinks redbull though? I mean, apart from on a night out when you’re wasted and think it’s a good idea?

I reckon thats the largest chunk of it!

The most frustrating thing for me is that cycling is the most transparent. Having gone from being a huge Pantani fan up to now, I too see any significant in race boost in performance as medically induced, has to be. I just enjoy the sport and try not to get bent out of shape about drugs anymore. The issue is the sports science guys/doctors always find a way around the banned substance list as its lucrative. Tennis, swimming football etc are just better at hiding it as event access is easier to manage i.e. a tennis pro is on court for a short time over a week, footballer on pitch 90 minutes. Tour cyclist covers thousands of miles over many weeks, getting gear to them is far harder!

STW and most other sites (BikeRadar) must have some kind of block with Redbull perhaps – or get more click through revenues from EuroBike ads? It beggars belief the lack of coverage. In fact the magazine is pretty dull all over to be honest, compare it to Decline or Big Bike which whilst they cover the sport with a much more ‘sporting’ design, STW is dull. Perhaps STW is only for leisure riding in which case it explains everything.

Do they ever read and comment on these threads?

Unbelievable courage by the British lads, both deserve all the credit as to ride like that was breathtaking to watch and no doubt terrifying to do! Danny Hart has every right to be smug as he wishes!

Just a thought, do you have another bike set up perfect for you? If so, take a few basic measurements; Center of BB to top of seat, front or center of seat to center of stem, and front axle to center of stem. Then make sure your new bike is set up with the same. Might help to know its set up as something you know and like

I think every new driver should complete a simple motorcycle course prior to progressing to a car. Learning to ride a motorbike is an amazing way to improve your awareness on the roads when driving a car

Also my bike is super long, 22″ so im wondering how difficult it would be to extend the rear hose if needed, so presumably I might have to buy a new hose, trim it, and put new fluid in, or do they come over long as standard?

    The rear cable is long.

We went to Les Orres this summer (near Embrun). Lots of routes (14) all doable, reds are very flowy, lots of switchbacks. Zero lift queues meant lots of runs. Bars, ‘cheap’ bike shops (€8 for a tube supplied/fitted). Good food and deffo going back. The run called ‘Gawa Line’ is so much fun its hard to describe. (not me but this is the run, (red) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6xG8H055ZU). There are a lot of ‘run vids on Youtube).

Basically the highest point is 2500 mts and is the top of the ridge dead center of this pic. The routes flow down either side through the trees. It takes 2 lifts to the top. Most of the runs are off the top of the first lift.

The main track is not a run ! but you can see one of the runs flowing through the trees

    The station

I found I could ride better here for some reason, no idea why but drops and jumps felt smooth, placebo fun factor I spose

Looking down from the top run

Hope these help as an option for you next year

Not great experience, would not ‘not’ use them again but would pay a bit more to not use them if I chose to not not use them. So would use them but only if there was no option to not use them on occasion

I recently bought a far simpler Dainese set up, mainly because I dont think the riding I do needs more. FWIW, get what you feel you need but make sure its comfortable, I tried a few sets on and some I felt were quite restrictive to me and would probably cause me to crash! Like helmets its a personal choice

I ride a Commencal Meta CrMo hardtail, (currently in the Alps snigger snigger) and it is a blast. Ive also got a lot of time for the Stanton frames too. I think the standards in frame building for HT bikes is amazing at the moment. The ride qualities are all top draw, I also like being the only bod on an HT here! My bike draws a few looks for sure

Lovely, not for an MTB IMHO but you could if you wished. You should get a splash cover for them to use on an mtb on wet days. Look after oit and it will look after you
