I’ve been using a cordless Philips set for the last few years, 0.5mm has worked well for me.

    Considering a set of these next though after a recommendation from a fellow baldy at work;

I honestly think that there is no difference for me, but then I ride solo for 80% of the time

Riding solo definitely means that I’m able to push myself more on the climbs and flats though. Not because I’m awesome, but just because there’s no social aspect to worry about

Thanks for all the recommendations. It does appear that many of them look identical but just rebranded and varying massively in price. I’ll probably go for the Planet X or the Draper ones.

    Cheers

Could well be a horsefly bite mate, they can often flare up a few times before they heal due to it being an open wound from the little git taking a chomp out of your flesh. I ended up with sepsis and a spell in hospital a few years ago

A tick doesn’t bite you and drop off like a mosquito, it borrows in and drops off a long time later when it’s had enough. You would’ve likely seen the tick feasting on you that evening or the day after being in the forest

I bought a couple Specialized Butcher Grids back in April from Leisure Lakes, about £15 each if I remember correctly. This was before all the COVID cycling craziness though

Cheers Ajantom, I just checked Stava on a laptop for the first time in a while and worked it out but it does appear that you need to follow people in order to do it.

If anyone wants to follow and share routes then i’m Neil Bucko

I have ridden around Quantocks, Haldon, east Dartmoor and Woodbury a bit over the years but am always looking for inspiration to keep it varied.

Hi guys, is there a way of downloading other people’s rides as GPX from strava? Such as your ride above Tom?

With my limited knowledge, it’s the standard 9/10sp freehub that came on my mk2 Escapade, and the 105 5800 32-11 cassette that came on my 2015 Giant Defy. There was a small spacer behind the 9sp Sora 32-11 cassette which I obviously removed

For the record, i fitted an 11sp 105 cassette on to my 10sp free hub today, no issues at all. Pleasantly surprised

I’m planning on fitting 11sp 105 to my 10sp freehub over the weekend. After a bit of reading I was expecting to just have to remove the 11T and run it as 10sp? I never use the 11T anyway

I went with a Puky LRM after doing the same research for my short lad. Great bike and sold it on for a good price too

Thanks for all the words of wisdom guys. The truth is though that I was high on beer when posting this and I honestly can’t afford to do anymore bike swapping for another 12 months anyway.

I’m sure I would be happy with a modern geo BFe as my only bike but for now I have a 2012 Five with 160mm Pikes to keep me happy

I know that, but the extra wheel size, the ability to run bigger tyres and the modern geometry may mean that I cope with the transition better. I really did love my Cotic Soul, and I think I would be happy with a new Bfe.

From experience, test rides always have the new bike placebo effect so I don’t trust them or myself completely

18, same as a 17 but just a longer seat tube. But it’s not for sale just yet, as I’m just beer dreaming

Basically I want a new Bfe or maybe a P7 but the Five would have to go. I just wandered what others experience of the change from 26 to 27.5 was like.

I used to have a 26 Soul with 140mm forks and I loved it but the change to a Five was nice

I went to the BMCC yesterday purely on this recommendation…and I dislocated my shoulder following an argument with a tree on the last run of the day.

Apart from that unfortunate event I have to say that the place is amazing, the endless berms on the blue runs singletrack through the woods are just amazing. We just pushed up as it was a weekday so it was a bit of a slog but I still recommend going if you fancy a weekday, we pretty much had the place to ourselves all morning.

If there’s any chance the guys who helped me when I came off are reading this then I just want to say thanks again for getting my bike and gear down the hill. Cheers

    Thread hijack.

I use my Escapade on and off road, probably 70/30 mix. The off road is bridleway, fire roads, canal paths. The standard Conti Sport Contact 37c are great on the road and on dry hardpack but I’m looking for something with a bit more grip off road when it’s damp without compromising the road performance too much.

The Clement X’Plor USH looks ideal with the hard central tread but I’m not sure if it’s actually any better off road than what I have.

Any other recommendations for something more road focused? How is the Nano on tarmac?

Looks like 2 of my mates have decided on Antur Stiniog uplift for Sunday afternoon, Snowdon Monday morning, and I really want to do Coed Y Brenin so need to work that one in either Monday afternoon or Tuesday on the way home.

That relive.cc thing is great, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before

Well that’s my thinking Stevied but I may just stick to my plan and wait 6 months to see how he’s doing. He currently has never shown any interest in riding a bike so it could be a waste of £55. Decisions…

I’m running 28c tyres on mine, I’ve struggled with the gap between the top of the mudguard and the top of the seat stays. I’ve not been able to use a mount there as the gap is too long, so the guard flaps around

I’ve gone from 4Seasons to Durano Plus. Yes they are t such a nice ride and are a little heavier but the extra puncture resistance is worth it IMO. I had a couple flats on freezing, wet 5am commute last winter with the 4S and I really don’t want to go through that again if I can help it. I draw the line at Marathon Plus though. Only downside is that the 28c come with a reflective strip on the side wall which will put some tarts off

I should probably add that I bought the frame and shock second hand and the previous owner had the shock TF Tuned (to the best of my knowledge) and he was probably 10kg heavier than me
