Oh yeah, I was looking at the deore on CRC.

Ah, it’s not backlit. The disclaimer at the bottom about battery life and memory etc mentions Glowlight but that’s for a model for £70

Are they backlit? I can’t work out what they mean by ‘Glowlight’…

Where are you based? Someone might be able to lend you something if its just for 1 ride otherwise I reckon Northwind has it, buy some fast rolling summer tyres like Specialized Fast Trak or Kenda SB8 for example.

Issue 81 of Singletrack, they’ve tested 3 bikes under £2k. Might be worth a read.

EDIT: I love my Lapierre Zesty 314, so in true STW style I should suggest you look at the 214 model for around £1900.

Have you had a read of issue 81 yet?

Thanks for all the responses guys. I went out for a ride shortly after starting this thread this morning, then had car problems, followed by mowing the lawn and then family time type stuff. I completely forgot about it until now.

I’ve gone for a Spokey Joe trailer in the end, purely because we had loads of Tesco vouchers waiting to be used so it only cost us about £50. I’m sure it will be fine for the job of getting the family down the canal or around the family stuff at Haldon.

@Yunki, it has been a while. I saw that Toys was trying to get hold of you the other day, have you moved back to Exmouth? I have never ridden on Woodbury but I used to walk the dog there all the time and I always used to come across trails.

@carl, my sunroof stuck open when I was getting diesel en route to Lustleigh so I bailed out and did a shorter ride on Haldon so that I could get it sorted. I’m off work until 3rd of May so i’ll have other opportunities to get up there.

Cheers again for the replies everyone

There’s loads of similar looking one on eBay for under £100 that come with an extra little front wheel and a handlebar so you can convert it into a stroller but I hate buying things that I can’t see in the flesh first, especially cheap things on eBay that are probably imported from China.

I would love a sexy lightweight one that could be sold on for a good price in a couple years but my wallet just lets me down

Have you been before? What did you have in mind, a quick ride around the Cleave or incorporating it into a longer ride around eastern Dartmoor?

The best way to get around it is with a guide, the first time I went I got a little lost and missed all the good stuff.

Hundreds of boy racers have done it around my way, well I assume they have as they have the sticker on the back of their cars…

My 2011 is on its 3rd BB now, the original shimano lasted a few months and the 2 FSA replacements have lasted about a year each. I think they would’ve lasted longer if I’d popped the seals off and regreased them every now and then, and also stored the bike upside down after wet rides but I just never do.

I may consider the Hope next time, £95 fitted isn’t too bad as the FSA are costing me £30 plus £10 fitting each time

That’s a good point actually, what do you mean by ‘a bit of downhill style riding’? Where do you ride?

What bikes do your mates ride? Look at the people who ride the same trails as you, they may have been through a couple bikes to get to the one they are happy with so take advice from them.

A 140mm FS does everything for me from local woods to trail centres to granite covered Dartmoor. Some areas in the UK might find a 100mm HT is a better all rounder for the terrain.

I used to get this exact same thing when I was young, maybe 10-13 years old. I never found out what it was and it went away without me noticing. I can only imagine it was something to do with muscles in the chest wall, maybe to do with growing pains associated with my age.

Good luck getting it sorted. Or RIP. Whichever comes first 😉

I love a good car threat but you really need to help paint a picture. 1.1 petrol supermini? 3.0 V6 estate? Petrol? Diesel? Bothered by age?

@Rossi – before you get too excited all but one of the above photos are on Dartmoor. Only the photo with the bike propped up against a trail sign with the blue sky is Haldon.

I went for a walk around the Cleave with my springer this afternoon, up the Nutcracker, over the top to Hunters Tor, down to the farm, back up towards Ravens but cutting across and back to my car at the bottom of the Nutcracker. I know there’s been some serious rain over the last couple of days so ignoring all the running water it’s not actually that bad. Just a few muddy stretches that should dry out once the rain gives us a break and summer kicks in.

The Nurcracker is pretty cut up from all the water erosion over the last 12 months. I’ve only been riding there for a couple years and its changed a lot since I first remember it. Lots of rocks and roots have appeared which adds to the challenge and keeps it fresh I suppose.

There was a guy up there on a Norco today but he didn’t look like he was making much progress through all the mud.

Fingers crossed the cold, dryish week ahead will hold out for you

I don’t even know what Vanishing Point is about, a mate just told me to record it.

It could be Looper I reckon

Doom Bar is my favourite drink of all time, proper good. I’ve got 2 bottles of that for tonight, followed by a bottle of Tribute (another cracking Cornish ale), and a 4 pack of Cusquena (the best of the South American lagers IMO)

I watch a couple episodes of Family guy, Red Dwarf or Father Ted in bed before i go to sleep about 4 or 5 nights a week. Never get bored of them. I just rotate through all the box sets.

Maxxis minion front and High roller rear all year round for me.
    swap them over.

Or change the HR for another DHF.

I love my Minion DHF, they gave me such a confidence boost when i first fit them front and rear about 18 months ago, great on every surface and good rolling resistance. I just wish there was something between the 2.35 and the 2.5

I’ve just done it at 30, I’m now a student paramedic after years sat behind a desk. I reckon at least 1/3 of the people doing my job started so in their 30s and 40s. The youngest person on my course of 11 was about 25, the eldest was about 50.

If its a possibility you should go for it, don’t waste your life doing a job you hate, there’s more to life than money (obviously I’m not suggesting money isn’t important, just that it doesn’t have to rule your life)

I took mine straight off Beta puppy as soon as we got him, over the stage of about 5-7 days he was put over to Iams as I thought it was better. By the time he was 9 months old he was put onto Skinners.

Bland stuff like rice, chicken and scrambled egg is great for when they get a poorly stomach after eating something dodgy on a walk.
