It’s the only coaching I’ve had, but Rich at Cyclewise Whinlatter was terrific when I went. Had two days and was further ok than I could have imagined at the end of it.

Wouldn’t like to comment on the bike as a whole, I think it depends on finding the right buyer to achieve something like the 65-75% you might be hoping for. Croix de Fers in particular seem to go for a surprisingly wide range of prices. Ultimately it comes down to how long you’re willing to wait to sell it to try and achieve the price you want and how much ‘the market’ is willing to pay.

On a separate note if you decide to sell the carbon fork on it’s own, I’d be interested!

Why not have a spectrum of parties with distinctive points of view?

That would rely on the party political system accommodating principled politicians who are able to stand for what they believe rather than what the opinion polls tell them they should stand for. IT’d also need principled politicians in the first place rather than the careerists that the current system breeds.

Is there a default assumption (in general, not you specifically) that muslims in burkhas are crooks?

Go and have a look at any news stand, you’ll see that assumption before too long.

DoubleTwist is worth a look, I believe it plays nice with iTunes (don’t use iTunes myself so can’t confirm), random is properly random and also has a nice podcast directory and automatic download option, which comes in useful for me.

Lots of choices here, to add to the clamour, Pennine Powder Coatings on the road between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge have done good work for me recently. £40 all in including glittery lacquer (for ‘er indoors).

Not an eBay one, but a Decathlon one very similar. Charges surprisingly quickly, kept two phones powered during sunny TT week in the Isle of Man last year, also kept us topped up when cycle touring later that summer.

I was sceptical but it’s a lot more useful than I expected, solar panel is larger than the one in your link, mind.

http://www.youtube-mp3.org/%5B/url%5D will make an mp3 from a Youtube video which you then need to put into iTunes etc.

Useful for rare/unusual stuff that’s only on Youtube, but more fuss than necessary unless you’re really determined not to pay anything for music.

Nine times out of ten car will beat bike with similar performance figures (0-60 etc.) due to how hard they can brake into corners and how deep into the corner that hard braking can continue compared to the bike.

Good illustration of this in the lap records at Cadwell Park.

Just a word on uberbike sintered, I’ve got them on at the moment and they are howling when they get hot. Others are saying the same on the thread I have going.

Thanks all, any experience or thoughts on the kevlar pads? Looks like I’m going to have to get used to changing pads based on the conditions so might as well consider all options.

’05 and ’06 is correct. Probably the best period of my formative years, started with Blur v Oasis in the charts and ended with England going out of Euro 96. Cracking summer’s at both ends, good times.

Small boys, jumpers for goalposts, wasn’t it?

The ‘prob’? with the Tmars/Ice one is if you are heavy (I’m 16stone) the locator pin that holds the travel in place can snap?

Hasn’t happened to me, I’m heavier than you.

The design of the pin actually means it’s more likely to slip out and thus the post down rather than snap.

I’ve got the Tmars version of that ICE lift one, it’s fine. Completely bombproof (it would have to be to have me wobbling around on the top of it), works well enough and dead simple to strip, clean and reassemble (10 minute) job.

The only problem with it is the lever is crap. The RSP looks like the same post with a Reverb style trigger, so I’d go for that if I was buying now.

Just set my girlfriend up with a DMR Trailstar LT with 150mm Marzocchi Freeride forks on it, she won’t hear talk of it being too heavy and wasn’t interested in hearing about reducing travel on the forks for climbing. Quote, “I just want to ride the bloody thing!” If 5′ 5″ of small lady can deal with it I’m sure you’ll be fine! :-)

If your lever comes all the way back to the bar then, one way or another, you’ve not got enough fluid in the system. A top up might improve things but ultimately they’ll want bleeding properly.

Can’t really help, I’m afraid. Only using for nav, don’t record speed etc. when I’m on the MTB. That being said the one time I did look at that screen it picked up my height etc. straight away. I’ve found that it can have issues sometimes and does need the occasional delete and reinstall to keep things running smoothly, might be worth a try.

I didn’t like Viewranger myself (other than for downloading the two free OS tiles!) as much as I did Oruxmaps.

The ‘follow route’ option on Oruxmaps seems to work better to me and the route is shown with directional arrows rather than just an indistinct black line that Viewranger shows. Didn’t seem to be a way to change it either.

Hario hand grinder is the standard reply to this, I believe.

Haven’t tried one first hand but have heard very good things and will hopefully have one in the next week.

Pestle and mortar won’t work (well), in the same way that blade grinders don’t. Consistency of grind size is key and what you get a good grinder for.

    South Pennines/Dark Peak?

Take your pick of ‘centres’ really. Sheffield, Hebden, Glossop, somewhere more remote in the hills, East Lancs for Gisburn Forest.

Oh yes. I moved house a few weeks ago and am currently exploring the trails out of the door on a freshly fettled bike.

Went through a lot of pain to get to this point but being able to roll wheels out of the garage and be on bridleways within two minutes makes it all worthwhile.

Fitness/Injury issues aside (sounds like that and your bike need fixing firstly to me):

If you’re in Bolton I’m about half an hour away in the car and the trails my way (Milnrow/Littleborough/Calderdale) are wet but not muddy, I was last out at the weekend and I reckon they are mostly almost as fast as they would be in prime condition.

Change of scenery/trails/exploring somewhwere you don’t know as well might do the trick.

Torq is a star headed bolt or fastener.

That’s torx, it’s just a misspelling on the linked site.

I’m not speaking from experience and I normally like their stuff but that Topeak job looks horrible to use.

Personally I use a regular torque wrench for higher torqued stuff (e.g. crank bolts, pivot bolts). It’s only marked down to 24nm on the handle but can adjust down to 12-14nm using the markings on the twisiting grip. For stem bolts etc. I use a torque key since almost everything alse is rated at 5nm.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I notice that Schwalbe’s offerings can be had reasonably, would the Nobby Nics or similar be any good? I note that a few of the reviews say they are a bit fragile?

What about the On One stuff?

If he’d have stayed behind the first rider he’d have been fine – excellent line and controlled speed… He’d could have learnt a lot from him.

I thought exactly that, rider in front was clearly faster than cam-man as a consequence of being smooth and positioning (i.e. riding better). He slows down approaching the rider in front and matey obviously thinks ‘here’s my chance’. there were a couple of points earlier on where I thought he was going to undertake him.

The bend is a bugger as it tightens up, but he clearly didn’t know the road well enough to be aware of that and adjust speed accordingly (which his lack of ability makes necessary).

Ultimately he’s chancing it, whether he realised it or not and is lucky he didn’t pay a higher price.

    TL;DR: Idiot

    Potentially stupid question:

If you use one of these sites/plugins that lets you watch Netflix from other countries do you have to set up payment for that country or does it somehow pick up your UK payment?
