    Bonjour, bienvenue, welcome, alright? :-)

Sure is. Of the aero helmets I’m liking the Belkin Bell ones best so far, just going by aesthetics!

I actually thought it was a POC piss pot or something at first! Thought it would look cool in non-team colours as a ‘casual’ lid, then saw the price…

Is Paolini wearing a Giro Air Attack in that picture in the OP?

Is this a Friday evening to Sunday evening type deal with all day rides Saturday and Sunday?

If so it would have to be South Pennines, something like the Gorple Road route in The Vertebrate Publishing book and then up to the Lakes for the Sunday, either Staveley for ease of access or Keswick to have the option of a big natural loop or Whinlatter depending on weather/hangovers.

If you didn’t want to cover as many miles I’d still do South Pennines and something incorporating Lee and Cragg Quarry on the Sunday.

    So many options though…

Northwave shoes for £28 in size 48. I’ve had a pair, Endura merino base layer, Adidas bibs and Sugoi jacket for £52. Cheers OP.

Even Cancellara seems to think the cobbles have no place in a GT.

Maybe he thinks they should take a few hills out whilst they’re at it?

    Sexy though innit

I know you’ve got a lot of free time at the moment, but not everything you find on the Internet has to be sexy. Particularly a brake mount.

I’m in Greater Manchester, North East in the South Pennines to be precise, give me a shout when you move/visit if you like, happy to show you some rides/make you feel better about your riding skills and fitness!

All the best with the move.

He went over the bonnet but the camera left his helmet, he didn’t flip that many times. In the slow-mo section you can see him on the floor as the camera spins.

    Inexcusable from the driver.

“… and you can’t even hear the words… Is it a boy or a girl?” – Everyone on STW, apparently.

Missed the train, definitely out. Might see you on the hills though. I’ll be the one wheezing etc.etc.etc.

Running late, still trying but might not make it in time. Struggle on without me if I don’t…

I think I’m in this evening. I’ll be on the train so if you see a big lad wheezing up the hill to the pub, give us a wave!

Good effort from Saffron Walden crowds on a Monday.

I was just after the turn onto A58 after Cragg Vale, had a great day. Got talking to a load of people, couples, families nearby, good job as everyone I was planning to meet cried off an early start after a heavy night before.

Hearing the crowd noise increase as the breakaway came up the top of Cragg Vale, watching the crowd go nuts one by one as they came along the stretch of Cragg Vale we could see, watching them round the corner and accelerate away past us and down the road, absolutely unreal. Then the whole thing got repeated 30 seconds later when the Peloton came past. A dog next to me joined in with the shouting too!

So, if in 3 years time everyone can get back on the hill to cheer us up, that would be great!

    I’m there.

Sat at the turn at the top of Cragg Vale, first few official vehicles passing through, looking forward to seeing who will come up the climb first. I have a feeling that one way out another it’ll be a lone rider.

I reckon it’ll be mental up there though.

Me too, there are shuttle buses running from Littleborough centre all day, hoping that cycling up early will get me there before too many use them. further down Ripponden Road will hopefully be quieter if nothing else.

Only heading over from Milnrow to the top of Cragg Vale but going in the same direction. Up early doors and straight out the door to try and get a half decent spot!

Quick word of warning, get there in time to put your bike at the back of the car deck. We were late boarding on the way back from the TT this year and ended up with the bikes tied to the bars at the very front, cue dozens of bikers scuffing past with cordura, bar ends, boots etc.

Could be worse, you could be Billy No Mates and at the back like I will be!

In reality I think the atmosphere will be great, judging from the videos of past years, we’ll be reet!

    many couples go and camp?

That’s what me and the girlfriend are doing, she’s planning on walking while I’m riding, riding on my own so far.

Is that one in the OP a warning to users of the slope or an instruction to the flora, though?

I’ve been told that it’s best to turn up to an interview ‘one step up’ from what ever the office dress code is.

You could always try what I’ve just been told is called ‘business casual’, essentially a suit with shirt but no tie, apparently the Americans are big on this.

    Your political views are irrelevant.

In that case, then, so are yours. Certainly to whether or not I’d sing the anthem.

Changing tack slightly, is anyone using Crouton with Steam? If I can get one of these to play Football Manager as well as everything else it does then it would be the perfect solution for me.

Nope, I have no interest in asking an imaginary man in the sky to keep an eye on the unelected ruler/leech assigned to me, via the medium of song. If the song was about Britain I might have a little sing.

    Hhhmm, struggling with that one.

Google music does 2-6, not sure about 1 as I’ve not had any need to do that. Doubletwist does 1 and 3-6 but definitely not 2.

    Just a thought, doesn’t point 3 negate 2 and 4?

It would appear the enthusiasm is not universal….

Goodness me, some people really are utterly, utterly miserable aren’t they?

I’ll bet they’re the same people who poo-pood and complained about London 2012 before the event as well.

With things like this I sometimes think it’s initially easier to think what could I do rather than what should I do? Then consider the outcome from each scenario and see which feels most ‘right’ to you.

EDIT: That sounds a bit more hippy-dippyish when it’s written down than I realised. Stands up, though.

Something similar happening in Harrogate, I read, mini knitted jerseys to use as bunting. The organising group asked the public to contribute and hoped to get around 2500, ended up with more than 23000 with contributions coming from New Zealand and the Arctic Circle!

Yeah, planning to cycle up Blackstone Edge to the top of Cragg Vale or further towards Ripponden if it’s busy. Current thinking is to go up first thing with packed lunch and a book!

I’m planning to get to my favoured spot super early (it’s likely to be one of the more popular spots but is closest to me) by bike and carry on down the route to find space if need be. I was thinking first thing in the morning hoping for there to be a bit of atmosphere to soak up, people to chat to etc.

Am I overestimating how busy it’s likely to be?

Top tip for commuting without a shower at the end: Pitrok deodorant. Doesn’t stop you sweating, doesn’t have a fragrance but does neutralise the bacteria that cause dried sweat to smell. That along with wet wipes and a rinse of the head used to see me right before I showered at work.

Very overgrown Rights of Way – what happens in your area?
