Slight hijack. Anyone using one of these on a bike where the cables route down the top of the seat stays? If so, is it a total pig to fit?

Hmm, didn’t think about the voltage being an issue. Is that why people have reported the battery won’t charge when connected to a laptop/PC etc?

    Yup.

perhs it just speeds up the charging process?

Nope. Another chance to charge you a few quid, innit.

Yeah, it charges via USB cable, there’s no cradle needed, the charging circuit is in the camera. The only thing you’ll need to check is that the voltage of the wall adaptor you use matches. Off the top of my head I think that it’s 5v but can’t confirm as I’m not with the unit at the moment.

A friend has a new Polaroid camera, I think it’s a Polaroid 300. Not my cup of tea but seems good at the job it’s meant to do.

after what we went through ten years ago with bad neighbours I don’t want her to know this is winding me up.

I feel your pain having moved out of my last house in large part to noisy/nuisance neighbours, but this^^ won’t help anyone. Of course they will be ‘oblivious’ to your problems if you don’t talk about them, they’ve got their own stuff going on, maybe she’s thinking the same but doesn’t want to say anything to you? Talk to her, let her help.

so you could (and should) be liable to pay VAT on the import, and you’re likely to have little to no protection or opportunity to return if you have a problem as it won’t be covered under distance selling.

Just in case anyone is interested, I didn’t pay any import duty on mine, I’m willing to take a gamble on any problems at the price. There’s a surprising amount of info online if any problems do crop up, so I’d have a fighting chance of fixing any problems.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to look for trouble on my commute.

Also just checked against the ‘how to spot a fake’ article. I’m 100% happy it’s a genuine SJ4000. Hope that helps someone.

Yep, ordered through EvoMTB. Firmware name/version is the easiest way to test with one in your hand, IMO. Firmware is not the latest version as standard but can be updated online.

Picked mine up from the depot today, not had chance to have a proper play but the firmware confirms it’s definitely an SJCAM SJ4000.

If you’re talking about Netflix, Youtube etc. (even some less than 100% legit apps) then a Chromecast dongle will do the vast majority of it. Screen mirroring, where your screen is shown on the TV exactly as on the tablet screen is only supported on some devices. The list is too long to list here and changing constantly, Google is your friend for checking your tablet.

Slight hijack here, has anyone tried compiling videos on a Chromebook or know of editing apps? I’m not talking about a full on #sickeditbro, just compiling a few short video clips into one slightly longer clip?

Lovely, that. I really like those frames, got to try one briefly at Whinlatter last year, loved the ride.

Of course you’ve missed a trick by not getting the black frame for full ‘2014-Murdered-Out’ look.

Evomtb links through to Amazon at checkout, that site is basically a shop front and their transactions are done through Amazon.

Haven’t seen any footage of snow myself but it’s worth searching Youtube for sj400, there’s a lot on there. I’ve seen some impressive results from people who have fiddled with the white balance and done a bit of basic post processing. If you’re interested in getting the best image possible, this seems to be necessary with this camera.

And another thing, why din’t he just borrow one of those Suzuki’s he rides in the TT? Ok, I get that he wanted to role this thing out of the shed and I’ve just answered my own question, but if it was for a record, then hey why not borrow a bike??

Having read interviews with him down the years mentioning this engine/bike he seems to have a bit of a love affair with it, it speaks to him more than ‘standard’ race bikes do. If you read his book he says he sees racing bikes as just a job, the same as fixing trucks. The Martell is something he seems to have a deep passion for.

(Yes I’m fully aware this post makes me sound like a weird fanboy, I’m not reall, I don’t think…)

‘Forbidden Island’ is a good one. It’s nice because it doesn’t have a board (card based playing area), so even the set up is exciting and it’s co-operative rather than head to head.

Takes a bit of learning the first couple of times you play but it’s well worth the effort.

Does anyone know of an effective way to mount this for use on the commute without helmet mounting? I don’t want to draw attention to the camera if I can help it, I’m thinking some kind of belt clip type setup on my rucksack straps rather than bar mounting so that I can point it away from ‘forward’ if need be.

It’s a great example of the type of song he’s trying to make, not to everyone’s taste (or even mine) admittedly, but ‘shite’ is a bit narrow minded IMO.

It’s the only new track on an upcoming retrospective box set, not sure it was necessarily intended to be seized upon the way 6music have.

‘Dancing with Blue Jean’ though, now that is proper shite, no two ways about it.

apparently original ones have Socam on them

Later model ones have ‘SJCam’ on them but this is an earlier model that predates that change anyway, I suspect it’s clearance of the old stock, hence the lower price.

They had no facility to sell it to me for that price unless I ordered it for store collection. So I had to stand next to the till and use my phone to reserve the item on the website and only then could they sell me it for that price. Bonkers.

I’ve had this happen as well, except the bloke at the till did it for me, on his till terminal. Ridiculous.

Also, don’t bank on next day to store actually happening. IME if it doesn’t turn up it’ll only show as ‘with the courier’ and you’ll have a hell of a job getting them to chase it up for you. Technically I’m still waiting on a BB to be delivered to store from five weeks or so ago. Needless to say nothing happened after I stopped chasing it u with them.

I’ve got an M8, I really like it having had Samsungs before.

Screen’s lovely, battery lasts really well(epecially considering dimmest screen level is bright enough for 90% + of my typical use), the front speakers are good enough for me to happily listen to music through in a pinch. So far HTC have been good with updates too, had an update not long after the last iteration of Android came out, this threw up a few bugs but a patch was out soon enough. Feels well made and solid too.

Only criticism I can think of is that the case that comes with it is bobbins.

this is a first world problem, get some ear plugs

    It’s really not.

Having lived through living next to noisy neighbours for nigh on seven years and moved away earlier next year I can tell you that the impact can be massive. Everyone has the right to not be disturbed in their own home at unreasonable times. Anyone who doesn’t understand the social contract of living in a house adjoining another deserves the full weight of the consequences of their behaviour.

OP, start making a diary now, if you do contact EH they will want to install a Db meter and have you make a diary, so the sooner you get started the better.

In my case the neighbours were beyond reasoning with and the behaviour deteriorated to the extent that the police were called to visit them (not by me), but the best advice I got in that time was to go round outside of the times of the disturbance, explain the impact on you and try to remain cordial throughout.

I can’t stretch to waterproof shoes at the moment. So I’ve been using mudguards, Sealskinz (both half price a few weeks ago) and overshoes in the worst of the rain last week. They’ve served me well so far, the overshoes are the neoprene type and aren’t totally waterproof but the socks have been faultless. Ski boot warmers at work as a back up, I can normally dry my shoes with the insoles out overnight at home (one advantage of using vented/meshy shoes in winter.

My other, go to (quicker) recipe is a more Sicilain (deep pan) style that does need a stand mixer but doesn’t need any additional kneading and very little handling:

    500g Plain Flour
    10g/2 teaspoons salt
    5g/1 teaspoon dried yeast
    2 tablespoons olive oil

Whack all that in a stand mixer (with dough hooks attached), put it on low/medium until it all comes together and you’ve not got any dry flour left on the sides of the bowl, turn it up to medium high and leave it going until you can see it’s become stretchy, smooth and pliable, normally 5 minutes or so.

Pour at least two tablespoons of oil into a try (18″ x 12″ or so), you want there to be a layer of oil in the bottom of the tray so that it sort of fries the bottom of the pizza, put the dough in and rub the top with olive oil to coat, cover in cling film and let it rise until the dough touches or nearly touches the sides, normally a couple of hours (you can stretch it a little bit if need be)

Top it, put it in a rippingly hot oven (ideally something like 280c or as high as your oven goes) that’s been preheated for at least half an hour, it’ll take 15-20 minutes to bake and you must not open the door while it’s doing.

    Good eats! :-)

The biggest difference I’ve found recently is to cold ferment the doigh. First rise of 8-12 hours, knock it back and then 2-5 days in the fridge (for a Neapolitan style cruts using 00 flour). Onviously not convenient as it neds planning in advance but really improves the flavour, the rise at the edges and normally giving a nice char as well.

I agree, the route wasn’t the absolute best the area has to offer, but as a 100% legit route that can handle 300 or so riders it was pretty good.

Bombing downhill on tarmac a few times was disheartening but the three main downhills as mentioned above were great, even if I did manage a fairly spectacular OTB on the last one!

My group was in the bottom 10%, the pace was seriously social but we all enjoyed it and vowed to be back next year to try and break into the elites at under four hours!

    Youll need those waterproof socks!!

Yeah, I’m anticipating a puddle-fest. Don’t think it’ll call for mud tyres yet though, looking at the course seems to be a fair bit of road as well as the usual hard pack. Let’s hope I don’t live to regret that.
