    Any one got one?

I have, although I have the XL version due to my massive swede.

I wear it on road bike and mtb at the mo, fit is good for my (enormous) round head, visor is a bit rubbish, neither use nor ornament, light on the back is handy imo (not in the expected place, so I hope it makes me a bit more obvious).

I do find I sometimes think it’s stuck a bit between two stools, I’d like a little more coverage for on the mtb and a little less (or at least more streamlining) on the road bike.

All that said I’m keeping an eye out for a decent price on one of these new-fangled ‘trail’ helmets.

This might be the game that finally gets me playing online, what’s the cheapest place to pre-order at the moment? I have a £10 Tesco voucher, I guess nothing will be cheaper than using that?

Had forgotten all about this, still up for it though. What stage are we at? Are we getting registered separately then booking?

Wouldn’t be for me, I need something hydrating/refreshing when I’m out. If it’s what he wants to do, I can’t imagine it’ll do any harm, but I can’t think of what the benefit would be by drinking it during the ride, after the ride is another matter of course.

How much does she ride out of the saddle on the road? Being sat down for the whole session might be putting extra strain on. Other than that maybe an issue of too high a cadence when on the turbo?

What would make it really worthwhile IMO is if you could make it modular so that it can grow with the kid. I bought my nephew a quality bike but he’ll be too big for it soon. If you could add pedals at the appropriate time and design it so that it has enough adjustment to be used as balance and pedal bike, you’d be on to a major winner.

My nephew of similar vintage loves Swing Shot. Or, “the monkey throwing game” add it’s more commonly known.

I’ve got some cotton Endura ones bought (for me) from Evans a year or two again. they’re a ‘trunk’ (underwear not swimming) fit. They’re OK for commuting/pulling but no good for long rides add there passing is fairly minimal and cotton doesn’t dry as quickly as lycra.

just wondering if the £65 Tmars ones on ebay are the same.

As far as I know, yes. I believe some sellers state this explicitly in their listing.

I have an all but new Tmars 2012 version, only ridden circa 50k in it so far but it’s working well so far, takes a bit odd getting used to but I’m pleased for 50 quid. I’m heavy but don’t anticipate any problems that can’t be fixed from my early experience.

If you can find one a Trsilstar LT might be a better bet. Designed for longer disks and ‘trail use’ Think of it as a hard-core hardtail and ride accordingly.

Trends to be older roadies round my way that don’t wear them. I always do except if I’m nipping to the shops down the road.

I got one of these a year or two ago, it’s been perfect for my needs. Only thing I’d say is don’t store it with the feet pushed all the way together or it’s top heavy and liable to topple given half a chance.

Must just be me but I couldn’t go back to 26″ wheels after commuting on my road bike. I’m going to build up my old ht frame with rigid fork and cx/29er wheels for this winter.

Probably just me being spoilt but a word of warning nevertheless.

Bonus is that when driving at night the headlights of a car following at a reasonable distance behind is mostly blocked by the spoiler bar so no dazzle even though you know its there.

Ooh good point, hadn’t thought of that.

Slight thread hijack, I’m afraid. Is the view out of the rear screen livable? I realise it’s restricted, sat in one the other day and I thought it was (just) OK, but gf is not so sure.

I wouldn’t bother upgrading the shifter if I were you, I have tiagra shifters on my road bike and the quality is bullet proof. I’ve commuted two winters on them, crashed on them and ridden the c2c and they’ve not shipped a beat.

I’ll have a bit of that. Ta!

The Triban is a frame worthy of upgrades too. I’d be going for that if it were me, but mostly for the ‘brand new bike’ novelty.

Don’t kick off, it’s not the fault of whichever sap it’s behind the counter when you rock up. Service has been poor, no doubt. I’d be asking for them to fit the next post up the range for no extra cost.

I would put money on Evans not dishing out smart arse attitude to their paying customers though.

That particular branch now seem to mostly specialise in week-long-Saturday-boy ism rather than smartarsedness, unfortunately.

I too am a chubster, currently. I’m a week into 0 to 10k, it’s been very very easy, but I’m sticking to the schedule to keep my muscles/joints protected. If I can do it, I’m sure you’ll be able to. Go for it.

I’m with you on this, creaks etc. Do my head in big time. Also like my bikes to pass the ‘drop test’ whereby they can be dropped from 20cm or so (on to the tyres) without any undue noise.

Tell this to the people I did my last two mechanical-filled week night group rides with and they’d laugh like a drain.

I used to have a mate like this when I was a kid. Didn’t dislike him, but he liked me a lot more than I did him.
My thoughts at the time we’re that it’s not killing me to have him round so why upset him, we still had a laugh as all kids do.

Sometimes we’d go to another kid’s house and he’d latch on there for a bit, sometimes I’d say I didn’t feel like it, sometimes my parents would say it’s not a good time.

All I would say is don’t tell him outright that he can’t come round any more, I imagine that would devastate him. If it has to come to that then his parents should be telling him. Why not try whittling it down by saying it’s not convenient for a day or two a week, see how it goes from there?

Hhhmmmm, hasn’t noticed before now that this is made by the same company that do the BBC Moto GP coverage. That increases my confidence as that has raised it’s game the past couple of seasons.

I was enjoying much of it by the end of last series, especially Rob Hayles’ stuff. Looking forward to this now.

Don’t think there’s a hard and fast rule as it depends what characteristics you want to emphasise.

Personally I currently run my shock with slightly less sag than suggested as I climb a lot and want a good peddling platform. Forks run at slightly lower than recommended as they tend to struggle to hit last quarter or so of travel at the recommended pressure and fastest rebound for plenty of pop on the trail. That can make them harsh on very rough stony ground though.

Same thing as is happening with the NHS. Privatise all that you can, criticise all that you can’t until the popular conception is that non-privatised doesn’t work.

Schools shouldn’t have to make money, is there any right thinking person that seriously thinks that is what they should be there for?

To follow up, it’s definitely do-able if you bide your time and lurk around the classifieds here and elsewhere. I picked up a Felt frame and shock for 200 quid, total build wasn’t much more than you’re looking to spend including Formula brakes, Rockshox recon fork etc.

This is way outside of my wheelhouse but all I can add is I would not spend 4k on your first bike. Spend 4k on a bike, by all means but I think you need to ride a certain type (ideally types) of bike for a reasonable amount of time to get an idea of what you actually like. I wouldn’t want to drop that much without being sure I’m getting the right thing.

IME being told what a bike rides like doesn’t compare to finding out what it feels like to you.

A better question to be asking yourself, IMO, at this stage is, “what sort of bike do I want to be riding?” If you can decide if you want something for all day xc epics, a trail bike that will do a bit of everything, a hard-core hardtail, full on DH rig etc. You don’t even need to know the terms, just think about how you want the bike to feel. That will point you in the right general direction.

No decent pubs where I live and bro-in-law is a brewer, so I drink at home mainly. If I’m drinking whilst out/at mates etc it’s generally £2.50-£3 in Manchester/South Pennines. There are a few places further afield where I (happily) pay more than that but those are ‘destination pubs’ that sell craft beers from micro breweries or rare imports.

*Touches every available piece of wood for the rest of the day*

Circa 4 years, approx 13 miles a day.

    1 full on me/car interface.
1 fall on tram lines indirectly caused by car driver.

Couple of close calls that stand out but nothing major. I start and finish work earlier than most so roads are fairly quiet when I’m commuting, thankfully.

The kid down the street who stops me and asks a dozen questions every time he sees me on my bike has just saved up £500 of his own money and bought himself a new bike, it’s a 29er. They’ll be around for a bit yet, I think.
