Two rides into mine. Lots of pedal strikes after moving from a 140/120 trail bike. Confidence on the downs, feels slow on the ups for now. Still playing with rear shock and seat position. Contemplating switching the geometry tabs, but conscious that I’m trying to get comfortable for it for the alps in 5 weeks.

A bit embarrassing as I wouldn’t normally recommend it to anyone in Leeds, let alone York… But you could be at Temple Newsam in less than 30 mins. Old “DH” trail and some better cheeky stuff in the woods.

Thomas knew that it was Stybar he had to drop. Going from first wheel so that Sagan would see it and try to cover, when Thomas knew he couldn’t. Meant that Stybar tucked in rather than followed, hoping for Sagan’s tow across. Which never came. And by then it was all over. Lovely by Thomas.

Love my ambit 2. Only problem is that it requires drivers for either Windows or Mac, so no joy if you run ChromeOS, Linux etc.

Yeah, I think I’ll test it on a stop/start lane first. My French isn’t good enough to explain a charged barrier away!

No mudguards/pannier mounts seems to be most people’s main concern.

What is the traction like, they look pretty low profile? Any experience of tubeless? Thanks.

Commencal list the bike on their site as: 13kg

Giant list their reign 27.5 2 as: “The most accurate way to determine any bike’s weight is to have your local dealer weigh it for you. Many brands strive to list the lowest possible weight, but in reality weight can vary based on size, finish, hardware and accessories. All Giant bikes are designed for best-in-class weight and ride quality.”

You may tell me Commencal is wrong. I despair for Giant’s answer.

It is hard to compare. One is specced with mid-to-high end parts, carefully thought out to mirror what an actual rider would spec. Is the nice mix between uncommon, but reliable and wins rave reviews. The other is 5lb heavier and rocks Deore to accommodate the marketing budget.

Cheers guys. Will take a look at that.

I bought a frame when they were brand new and alfined it. Persisted with it for a year. Now running cx1. Magical.

Yep, love them. I’m about 80-road/20-off. When they are not on the turbo. They can be a bit sketchy on wet mud, but predictably so.

The only thing I’ve found they really don’t like is flinty shards of rock.

First gen reverb was good, but over time lost its height. 2nd gen warranty replacement has been faultless for nearly 18 Months.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I managed to get into the PPDS on the Friday in Morzine.

Anyone fancy plugging some cheap, bike friendly accommodation for one in the town?

If I had a 15yo boy in 2015 who couldn’t brute force or hack around a WiFi block from his dad I’d have bigger worries than his backchat.

Bar ends or no bar ends. If you carry on down that trail for much further then I’ll wager that you’ll struggle.

    Holy thread resurrection batman…

Has anyone settled the Stans flow ex vs Hope tech enduro debate yet?

I’m about to pull the trigger on either of them. Held both in the shop yesterday and the hopes seemed noticeably heavier, but the weight difference listed on the Hope site is negligible.

I have a 2nd-hand flow on the back of my old bike at present, no real issues, but I did have to bend the rim wall back straight after a flatspot from the previous owner.

I’m not known for being light on wheels (insert fat git), but I don’t want spec extra rotating weight just for the sake of it. Is the easier to true with eyelets adage correct? They are going on a winch-plummet 160mm bike FWIW.

For once, the ugly stans graphics won’t be a problem as the bike is red/black, but on the flipside I know of a pair of tech enduros ready-built but never ridden where there might be some wriggle room on the price.

In the end, does it matter?

SRAM have launched an 11-36 for their CX1 group. That is a lot of range for the road. I’ve got the 11-32 on my 80% road crosser. I did joke the other day that I wondered if anyone would try and one-up it for a cheap XX1 cassette.

Yes. The revelation the next morning after your first big session about what muscles you actually used is fantastic.

Gets (and keeps) my heart rate up faster than pretty much any cardio.

Quick, easy, need very little room either to exercise or store. And cheap.

If you haven’t got floors you’ll damage, just get the solid cast iron ones. Best advice I was given was look for ones with the same size/shape handle regardless of weight so they feel familiar when you are chucking them about between hands.

Loads of video on youtube about how to do the exercises properly. Worth buying a book by some russian guy as well. I’ll see if I can find it. Tongue in cheek, but incredibly clear.

I presume people recommend doing the PPDS just one day, not all three and then riding elsewhere on the other days?

The PPDS entry can’t just be used to lap the lift?

All sounding good, cheers. Normally like to do my own thing, but quite fancy just keeping this one simple.
