They’re not necessarily older, just two different models (I think). For what it’s worth my mate has a T5 with the 1.9 104PS, and it is absolutely fine. Mine is pretty nippy, but that’s hardly a major requirement for this type of vehicle.

We ran about 20 Caddy’s at work with the smallest engine (60PS or something ridiculous), and we had a lot of hassle with clutches and gearboxes. I presume this was from them being under-powered and therefore ragged, rather than an indication of Caddy quality.

I’m no mechanic, so apart from the obvious stuff don’t have much buying advice I’m afraid.

I’d say shop around as well. We were laughed out of Glasgow VW when we said what we were willing to pay, and then got a great van from Wrexham a couple of days later. A bit of a drive, but not in the scheme of things, and that was when the model was not long out. You see a lot more of them about now. So I’d say have a goo dring about, I would have thought £12k would get a decent example.

Edit: Just had a look on Autotrader and VW Approved; surprised how expensive they still are. Still worth a phone about though.

Happy to help where I can.

A life has three rows of seats.

Got it with 4000 miles on it as a demonstrator, put about 20,000 miles on it without missing a beat. It’s a 2.0l (140PS) and goes very well, probably about mid 40s mpg(there’s no trip computer and I haven’t calculated).

The middle seats split 1/3:2/3 and also fold right forward on that basis. They come right out with a bit of spannering, but it’s not worth it as they fold so neatly.

The rear seat is a bench, so it’s either all up or all down, and it folds out the way in seconds, or comes right out with a bit of footering about with a star-drive for 5 mins.

With the rear seats out you get three or four bikes in the boot, although front wheels off.

With all seats up the boot isn’t huge, but still surprisngly useful due to it’s height. Think large hatch back boot only wider and much taller.

Not sure of the exact dims, and I’m not near it at the moment. From memory there’s a pdf drawing on the VW Commercial Vehicles website.

As I said went to the Mega 2-up, with 10 bikes on board and a load of kit no problem in the summer. Then at New Year we went away four adults, two kids and loads and loads of kit and food/booze. Again no problem (see below).

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

    Cheers

    Anyone actually got one please?

Not got a Kombi, but got a Caddy Maxi Life that I share with my old boy, I generally use it with the back row of seats out (so a Kombi with rear windows). Cracking machine, although I only use it for biking trips, rather than as an everyday car. My Dad finds it quite big day to day as an every day runaround, though no more so than a T5.

    Various storage combos:

    Megaavalanche trip:
No back seats at all, two bikes on rack, eight in the back (5 of which were DH), and all our kit. Bikes were stripped down.

    Weekend trip:
Two rows of seats, 2 bikes on back, 3 inside, 5 people on board in comfort.

The boot is big and tall so could take plenty of kit if you didn’t to go down the bike rack route.

I’ve not seen it, but I’d imagine so. It’s got to dangle from a harness so it’s probably got a screen cover.

I don’t expect to take an iPad out into a wet, muddy field for that sort of work.

We’re currently doing final trials on IP2s for use offshore on wind turbines. I’ve not seen one of the final versions yet, but apparently they have a semi-permanent rubber casing. These will get a fair bit of abuse in a relatively hostile environment.

Mine’s arriving on Thursday and it’s away to get a towbar fitted to take a rack before its wheels touch the ground! No help to the OP this information I appreciate, other than boot doesn’t seem very big.

“where ya been hiding not to see em”

I’m happy to list everywhere I’ve ever been, but it would be more straightforward if you just said where they were?

    Like the vid.

Where are these you speak of, they sound great?

Neither (if she really needs her man to decide via a mountain bike forum).

    Cheers Craig.

She’s had her proper hot-hatches as well as the associated costs. I’m after something solid with a bit of poke that doesn’t cost the earth to run; the Fabia seems to fit the bill with 16″ wheels, 50mpg, etc.

I reckon the chavs are trying to replicate the “drl look” as mentioned. It looks far too deliberate (sidelights rather than full headlights) on the shitbox Astras and Vectras you innevitably see doing it.

Yeah fair point. Last time I saw them was at Glasto and it was one of the best gigs of my life; however I expect the spectacle and my three day bender previously probably helped my opinion of his tunefulness!

Philistines (sp?) the lot of you, bloody love Blur. He’s got the tune on ITV2 – just about.

“if I really had to categorise it, I ride BMX, 4X, XC, trail, all mtn, freeride, DH”

I agree, there are too many cliches. What’s the difference between xc, all-mountain and trail incidentally?

Couldn’t agree more Derek. The only ones that seemed to have any sense were the armed response lot last week.

You are basically holding back the tide of filth from engulfing society. The riots were a small glimpse at what can happen.

I’m not getting in to it. Child abuse or covering up child abuse is abhorrent to me. Singing about it is absolutely pathetic.

Get in between them then, think about what’s about to happen a bit as TJ says. If you’re really struggling with the concept, watch what the LGVs do. You’ll not see many linger after they’ve finished their overtake.

I know I’m wasting my breath though.

    Brycey

There are stretches of the M4 with miles between junctions, it’s a rubbish excuse.

    Brycey

As TJ says, whether or not myself or any other driver chooses to speed is irrelevant. As I say, anyone that is using that argument and is holding the middle lane to pi55 off said speeders, has to have their temperament questioned.

That said, fair dos on your further explanation.

The problem is it creates a knock-on effect that results in a 40-80-40-80-40-80 tailgaiting outside lane, a spread out middle lane of oblivious drivers like yourself, and a deserted inside lane occupied by trucks and the odd idiot doing 90mph undertakes. Not a great situation.

Why can’t you and Markie just follow the rules of the road and let everyone else get on with it?
