Was in Liverpool this morning not knowing it was on, so a great surprise.

Thought it was all absolutely brilliant. The rolling and pitching boat on the lorry, and the mechanical dog/horse were incredible, and when the girl “got up” at the end (via a 25 tonne crane), I had a bit of dust in my eye.

Moving boat on 40′ lorry complete with waves and spray.

Girl (also moving) on boat. It was her blinking that got me!

    Dog/horse thing.

    Girl getting up off boat.

I advertised for 35 Wind Turbine Technicians a few weeks back. The advert was open (so applications saved on the system) for about a week, and I got 1200 applications. Says a lot about the opportunities (or lack of them) out there I think.

Took it myself this morning in Salford. The drivers here aren’t in the union so it’s a daily occurrence. I’ve given the missus a stern toolbox talk that if she sees a guy in a Shell/BP/etc uniform with a tanned right arm and a Yorkie running away from his vehicle she should do a prompt u turn.

Chewkw has a different vision for the end of this dispute to the drivers/union/haulage contractors/oil companies/government.

chewkw I know you talk a load of stale, dark yellow urine, but come on.

I believe the issue is not being given time (on company time), to do the daily vehicle checks, among other things. Don’t think blowing up is on the agenda.

100% disagree with you on the overtaking molgrips. People should be leaving enough space so that if others decide to overtake they can, regardless of their own intentions. It’s a fairly typical British motoring (in fact anything) attitude, “I’m not doing something so you’re not.”

Edit: I’m not saying you don’t leave space, but what has what people behind you do got to do with you as long as they are safe?

There’s a couple of guys been sitting in a van from Metrolink for a year ever since the front of a tram went to Eccles and the rear Manchester at the new points.

Considering there are about 831 security guards cutting about on Sedgeways (hilarious) at all hours, that can’t be right. Not to mention Booths, Wagamama, that sh1t Pizza place, Holiday Inn, WH Smith, etc, etc.

    Some people wish they were

Probably not the people that live there though; unless it really is made of cheese. If it is made of cheese I’d be keen myself.

Have to say it’s a pretty nice place to be now. Good to finally see some life about it after nothing, then a construction site, then a ghost town.

It’s not Salford really though is it? It’s a Beebanaudicinno middle class bubble. Ordsal and Salford might as well be on the moon.

I’ve just gone from roof to rear carrier (on an estate) and the loss is pretty much as bad, 10mpg give or take.

Am I right in thinking you get the Five with CCDB, Audi A4 Avant, and elbow pads free with the Parachute; or is it just the standard Five Pro?

PS – I’m qualified to piss take as I’ve ticked a few of those boxes in the cliche stakes! :D

Zokes, I take the point you’re making, but putting my pedant hat on for a minute, the offshore turbine standard is currently 3.6MW; with the really big farms planned for Round 3 all made up of 6-10MW turbines. In fact Dogger Bank in Round 3 is touted as 13GW total. The most recent and next generation offshore farms have significant outputs.

Still a lot of turbines mind…

I might suggest a turbine next to the STW servers; there’s certainly a lot of blustering.

I saw no reason for a helmet in the trailer as I felt it was fully enclosed, and as TJ says it would have pushed her head forward. Each to their own though.

Hmmm, good to see someone organising a race series, and also not easy in the south. But; I’d be considering the trades description act if I’d entered that. Other than that pebble garden at the bottom, I saw absolutely nothing that qualified that as a DH track*

*The camera does flatten and slow down I suppose.

Edit: bit of a nobber comment from me reading back, sorry. Is this the extent of DH riding down there?

Ooooh! That’s even better than the Corrado above! Had a couple of mk5 GTIs including an Ed30, fantastic cars! Very jealous boxxer7. My Ed went soon after the arrival of the nipper alas!

Cloudnine, my A4s going in for a towbar for the same reason on Monday at Northwest Towbars in Stockport. Options there are roughly:

    £210 – standard flange
    £230 – standard (swan neck)
    £330 – removable swan neck

+£140 for Audi combox to make electrics compatible with parking sensors and ESP.

I’m going for removable, but not bothering with the combox. From the phoning around I did this seems pretty competitively priced. Think from memory Audi was a ridiculous £650 factory fit.

Just had a sit but not drive in one. Much bigger than you’d expect, and the boot is pretty deep. Very tempted actually.

Had to remind the missus why we were there as she sat in the driving seat of a Golf Ed35 (£33k).

Yeah same here on the VAG front. My Mum’s got a Polo and it’s a good wee car, but literally want something that costs washers to buy and run for the missus while I’m away with work during the week. Will need to go and find a dealer with one.

“I’ve just been looking at some flats in Salford Quays too. There’s what appears to be a nice one with views and roof terrace, perfect.”

I’ve lived here for the last few years. It’s been good with amenities on the doorstep; except decent mountain biking of course! Though if you’re willing to drive a wee bit there are plenty of options. We’re moving though as a toddler and the 5th floor don’t mix. I’ll miss a lot of it.

Good point allthepies. The 1.2 and 1.4TFSI petrol VAG engines are peaches.

As already mentioned insurance for a brand new driver on anything fairly decent (as many car allowances demand), could easily be a couple of grand, in which case a car allowance doesn’t look so good.

A modern VAG* or BMW diesel with a modest output (318d Touring, 116d, the VWs you described, etc), will cost you buttons in tax and personal mileage fuel. I know you’re not a car nut, but one thing to bear in mind is the new 3 Series Touring to match the saloon just out is a year away still.

Hora – I know you’re the fountain of knowledge on all things motoring, but have you ever driven a modern (last couple of years) BMW?

Edit: * VAG = VW AG – VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda (and Lamborghini/Porche/Bentley of course, but maybe not relevant here :D )

Should have said in my earlier ramblings; if you removed the rear seat, and part-folded the middle row you’d get a bike or two in fully built no probs, and still carry four people.
