Fraid not fella, I’m Ops & Maintenance so only run the farm once it’s built. Don’t have anything to do with construction.

I’m biased* and in favour but also realistic about them. The big problem (offshore anyway) is cost, both to build, and maintain, however the industry is acutely aware of this currently. It’s an industry that is at least employing at the moment, I’ve taken 70 on in the last few months on my sites alone.

    * I look after said West Kirby and new North Wales ones (160 by the way).

My car (German brand, hated on here) was in for it’s first service the other week. I was just back from the Mega road trip, so had gone to town cleaning it the day before, so it was immaculate inside and out with everything topped up when it went in.

When I went to get it they were very polite as they said “we’ve given it a thorough clean sir, it’s looking brand new (it should, it’s only a few months old, and I’d given them it 5 hours before spotless).” And handed me a report that included “topping up washers.”

Par for the course. 95% will not query and pay up.

Your BIL is spinning you a line. I see at least two separate ones weekly (I’m assuming one of them isn’t the baddies).

The fella in the Ibis on the way south this year offered me a spare empty room for my two bikes FOC. Can’t say fairer than that, room itself was only 49E.

What’s next Rupert? You’ve now ticked off Orange Fives and Met Parachutes, what will your next trolling target be? Audi perhaps? Soft target and plenty on here will jump on the bandwagon given half the chance.

Must be a chilled out Saturday night in your place Gorehound. Nice bit of crazed right-wing ranting before Casualty.

Yeah that was my second choice, Five with 34s. Looks like a good combo.

I had sympathy for people that were intimidated by that section and weren’t comfortable riding it; it was the wallies that were standing about at the top/on it ruining it for everyone else that were a bit “frustrating”.

I’m 6’2″ and went for 17″ with a long post. A lot of people prefer the smaller one though.

IAche, a bit of both. Swapping some stuff, and buying a few treats! Not getting frame until October unfortunately, but happy to give you an update then.

My biggest problem with the Mega is it is like signing a new contract at work where you get paid £1000 less and have 5 days fewer holidays for ever more. You have to go back after you’ve popped your cherry. It’s amazing.

I’ve ridden a Blood for the last few years on all sorts (trail centre every week, big Lakes/Highlands days, Megavalanche, other Alps), it is a great bike and will do anything. You do need to grind out the climbs at times, but it’s not the end of the world. I had a Five before it, and would rate the Blood above it for the grin factor on the bumps and downs.

Just ordered an Alpine 160, so give me a month and I’ll let you know*

*Absolutely no use to you I know!

    Echo the above really.

140 if you’re light on your kit and/or a pro; 160 otherwise. There are all sorts doing the race, and there is generally a very positive vibe during practise week that will put you at ease.

You can imagine my excitement last summer when the missus and I were out with the wee one in her bike trailer and we dropped in to see our pal and his new MF. He was far more interested in my Alpine 160, and insisted my daughter and I went for a spin while he farted about on the bike.

I asked him how fast to go when harrowing and he said “if your head hits the cab roof you’re going too fast.” Classic.

    What a day!

” it was ridiculously uncomfortable and looked like a toilet seat round my neck..”

Not too bothered about the looks, but I struggled a bit comfort wise at first. I’d suggest lots of adjustment/fettling as I don’t know I’m wearing mine now.

Yeah to repeat that, not that far, but long drive due to small roads. Made up for by the gorges and col. Took me two hours from Belveze-du-Razes (20 mins from Carcassonne on Limoux side).

Not that much lift elevation (500m) but plenty of quality trails, was quiet, and everyone was friendly.

0300 hrs: depart Alpe d’Huez, France
    2000 hrs: arrive Dunoon, Scotland

1,120 miles, it was a sore one. Shared the driving with one other and ate a bit of sausage every 100km as a treat. Never again!

“Boriselbrus – In your experience how do you find that employers treat employees after a claim is made.”

It should make zero difference, and generally doesn’t in a big and/or professional organisation. However; the lack of training, then the way they’ve reacted doesn’t suggest they are particularly on the ball, so who knows.

That said, they might just be playing a bit of brinksmanship, and will roll over once RIDDOR etc are mentioned, and never give it another thought.
