If anyone can explain why there was a shepherd and a dozen sheep cutting about Media City on Tuesday I’d be grateful.

The Marie Celeste, I mean Media City, this morning. I heard Sport are refusing to move until after the Olympics, although I have to little to base it on.

I also work in Warrington, and take offense at it being called a dump. It’s a feckless, souless, sh1thole! :-)

That is absolutely stunning 40MPG. It still hurts when I think about the day a couple of years back when I phoned my old man:

Me: Dad, I’m up at the weekend, going to dig out the old (’94) Cinder Cone.
    Dad: The what?
Me: The bronzy-orangy frame that’s been hanging in the garage for about 15 years.
Dad: Oh that. Finally had a clear out last week, binned it. Threw out those old forks (Rock Shox Mag 21s) as well.

    Definitely fancy a retro build!

The Lowry Theatre from my living room and Imperial War Museum in the background in colder times.

The bridge from the Lowry bar in warmer times!

Cool, cheers. Failing that I’ll get the fabricator at work to knock something up.

    Cheers Molgrip.

I’ve got a Blood so chainstay clamp will hopefully do the trick. An extra and not included I presume?

Sanny, I’ve been a bit quick off the mark here. I’ve been swithering for weeks, but this thread has just “made” me order a Cougar; however a look at a photo I just Googled shows the hitch attached to the rear quick release. I’ve got a Maxle rear axle, is there a workaround do you reckon?

Ah right. You should bike in fully wheeled no bother then.

Hello there, I’ve got a Caddy Maxi. You don’t quite get a bike in the boot all wheels on, but the boot is nonetheless very large if you only have one row of passenger seats. So dog plus bike or two and five passengers would be doable.

    Great van IMO.

I had issues with mine along the same lines and grumbled away to anyone that would listen for ages…

…Until I opened it up and realised how simple a mechanism it is. Clean it all, grease the telescopic bit, undo the two screws that hold the catch mechanism on and make sure it’s running freely when you press the handlebar lever (the kink you show shouldn’t be effecting it). Re-fit catch and again make sure catch still runs through post. You then twiddle the sleeve at the top of the post to line up the holes and Bob’s your Uncle. You need to do this regularly though as there are pretty much no seals.

This one will be a ‘marmite’ one I’m sure..Manchester Civil Justice Building”

Binners, agree on the Marmite comment. I worked on the MCJC during construction and it is an awesome piece of engineering. The Beetham Tower (Hilton) was going up at the same time and stole the limelight, but there’s some impressive stuff in the Civil Justice Centre.

I shouldn’t be admitting to this one, but my cousin’s other half is Gary Tank Commander.

Looks like it, 180mm travel and he said it was perfect at the weekend (tight rooty course).

Aye, we were speaking to him. It was like a 224 with a Five swing arm.

Joe Barnes was on a prototype Patriot at Inners at the weekend. Very, very nice; not out until next year however.

A bit slow off the mark here; but that looks incredible! That’s It, Thats All is currently my favourite outdoory film, but this looks like a worthy sequel. Amazing.

My mates got one with roof bars. I used to have a 197 that took two bikes in the back with minimal hassle. Bloody miss that car, it’s a proper go-kart.

It’s not, see how tightly kinked the brake hose is as well.

I tell a lie, I’ve found this photo (not great), stopper is yellow tape just to the left of middle cable clip. As el_diablo has done, I’ve ditched the top one.

I had hassle with the cable creeping through the cable guide clip (the one near the top of the rear triangle closest to the pivot) from rear to front until there was enough slack for it to kink. I made a stopper using tightly wound insulating tape around the outer on the mech side of the cable guide, and that kept the cable as tight as possible when the suspension is fully extended, and it’s been fine since. I was thinking prior to that if taking a whole new outer under the bottom bracket. Sorry no photos, bike’s at my folks.

I think the brake hose is at risk as well and I’ve already pierced one.

I’ve just had yet another Saint short cage implode on my DH, was considering a 105 as I know a lot of folk used to run them. Can you see any reason why a Saint (new range) shifter wouldn’t run a 105 on 9 speed?

    Cheers

I see there’s a live (ish) entry list. Filling up nicely with 900 or so just now, usual high % of Brits.

What were those neoprene cycling mitts? Had a pair from Stif back in the day but went through about 6 replacement sets as the stitching kept coming out, really sweaty as well (funnily enough being neoprene).

Seconded for fbk’s recommendation of Allemont. Nice little site amongst the trees with a pool along the road.

Fair point GW, not much differentiation between WS and SDA. Know what you mean about the social side at night, but I thought it was a good starting point (don’t have much else to compare it to right enough).

Not really close, but the Innerleithen Winter Series is a good introduction to racing. Very laid back atmosphere and starts in Feb.

There’s a Ford parts site on eBay that’s about £55 though thinking on there’s probably postage. One of the first hits if you search Thule 591 on the Bay.

As others have said 4/5″ is perfect though people do it on all sorts. To be honest unless you are intending to win you’ll have fun on any bike (within reason, Tesco special excluded). The track is not difficult, just long and therefore knackering.

There’s no camping in ADH other than next to the lift in a dusty field with no facilities. If you’re doing down that route I’d camp at the site down in the bottom of the valley at a place called Allemont. The bloke that runs it is a friendly fella, it’s a nice spot, not expensive and there’s a pool along the road. It’s also well served by busses with bike trailers so you’re not cut off. The race ends there as well.

It’s a great event and I can’t recommend it enough. I was there for the first time last year and I’ll be back!

I’m not getting in to yet another STW aggressive/passive driving debate, life’s too short. I’m happy to admit in my teens in rural Scotland I drove inappropriately on roads like the ones in Mid Wales. It’s wasnt right, but there you are. Are we really going to sit around moaning at DS for something he did 20 years ago?
