    LOLz as they say!

Judging from the Salford fire thread of yesterday you’re in my part of the world, I better give my missus a phone and warn her there’s a lunatic on the loose.

What on earth has that got to do with Rick Stein though? Surely if anything he is helping your Corn-rades by providing work! Why don’t you spare some of your land to them to build an affordable home or two?

Edit – why on earth am I replying to this nonsense…

My car does near enough 150mph. It’s a diesel family saloon, should it be banned too?

I bet his premium has gone up a bit. McLaren F1s are worth about £750k these days ar they not?

I am a big fan of performance cars in all shapes and sizes, but seeing some of the tubes that cut about the Manchester area (up and down Deansgate on a Saturday) in all sorts of stunning motors in horrendous colours with ridiculous wheels dents my enthusiasm a bit I must say.

I can’t help feeling when Ferrari were perfecting the F458’s dynamics, it wasn’t* so some knob in the Man City/Utd youth team could paint it matt black, put alloys with their initials in the middle on it, and drive up and down a shopping street.

*I do appreciate Ferrari are a commercial enterprise trying to make money.

I think they have tightened up security a bit of late, although I’ve never seen any trouble. Ironically they are supposed to be moving to the new site accross the road, don’t know if it was effected by the fire or not.

Up until a couple of years ago, I was still registered at Ordsall Health Centre.

I go there regularly, there’s nothing wrong with it. In fact they gave me my Docs letter for the Mega FOC, which is more than most places will do.

My daughter goes to the nursery along the road, they are decent folk also.

Bit of a snob are we DS?

If anyone cuts about Ordsall on that, it’s a stolen that

Not doen the Quays though, it’s all displaced BBC execs down there…

On the rough subject of Ordsall/Salford Quays; does anyone off here cut about on a white Alpine 160 with an orange swingarm?

The fire destroyed a new Morrison’s supermarket and a hotel on Trafford Rd

I really need to open my eyes. I drop my daughter off oposite that site every morning (though not this morning). Thought it was a bit warm last night.

The word on the street is the new one isn’t going to blue and gold which is a bit of a bummer. Another 30bhp over 200 though, who knows where they’re finding those.

I know this is no way answers the OPs question  , but I recently got rid of a 197 and it was a great car. It seemed to have taken all the good points of the (excellent) 182 and put them in to a heavier but infinitly better screwed together package. Never missed a beat in three years and sorely missed.

I’m assuming from the reviews the 200 has moved the game on again, with the imminent Williams bound to be an instant classic.

    Anyway, as you were…

I’ve just watched that for a second time with the benfefit of knowing what’s going on (sort of).

One of those guards must go in at least four times. He just spends the whole clip swimming to the side, climbing out, walking round, then getting chucked in again. LOLZ as the kids say.

BTW, in a nod to a recent thread I saw a five year old Audi TT convertable for sale yesterday on a local forecourt for under seven grand.

I’m going to apologise in advance for this post, it’s a slow day in the office.

Mk2 non face lifted VRS – TFSI (200PS) – engine out of mk5 Golf GTI. Face lifted VRS – TSI (200PS in brochure, but as sing1track says more like 211PS) – engine out mk6 Golf GTI.

The chassis is decent and could probabaly have had TFSI K04 engine out of faster VAGs like Cupra, Golf Ed30, Golf R etc (230-270PS).

    I’ll get my coat…

Sam thats got to be a seriously awful car to drive then all that power in an floppy normal road car is just pointless.

Why? The Octavia VRs is regarded as a having a brilliant chasis. In fact there was a lot of talk at it’s release that VAG should have had the balls to put the higher output 2 litre in it from one of it’s cousins (Leon Cupra/Golf GTI Ed30/S3) but they obviously elected to save the more “premium” brand’s blushes.

Going off on a bit of a tangent here from the OP, but Gooner69 is this…

But on domestic properties, with no HSE/site managment nearby things can regress quickly

…something you reckon you manage to avoid? And is this…

but your average “scaff” has more onsite training and qualifications than just about everybody else in the building trade.

…something you do without compromise (SG4:10, edge protection on vehicles, etc).

Not having a dig, just genuinly curious as I work for one of the big contractors and I constantly have the fact that “the small local boys cut H&S/training/supervision corners and that’s why they’re so cheap” rammed down my throat. Usually as an excuse for not winning a job.

Speaking as someone who runs a load of scaffolders I’m stunned they asked your neighbours rather than kicked in your door, rifled through your socks drawer, ate some of your food, stripped the scaffolding and dragged it through the kitchen before banging in a timesheet claiming 10 hours for 3 hours work. You should consider yourself lucky! :P

PS In most cases the money is in putting up and taking down the scaffold rather than there being much hire revenue.

Pulling this back to the OP from arguing in the traditional STW style about the definition of an automatic gearbox 8O , I had the same issue in the UK Molgrips.

VW phoned at 4:45 (when the car was due back at 5) to say “that’s the service finished, oh by the way we’re just going to change the DSG fluid, that’ll be £200 extra” or something similarly ridiculous.

I threw my toys out the pram and told them not to bother, before phoning round all the Skoda/Seat/VW/Audi dealers and independents in the area, before, you guessed it, going back to VW the next day tail between legs and getting them to do it. From what I can see everyone wanted a small fortune for it.

Cambelt and waterpump on my older Mk5 GTI was another matter, and was considerably cheaper at independent.

I was just thinking that. I can’t decide if it’s supposed to look like a motorsport timing read out, match the rest of BBC Sport, or it’s just pish?

There really are some obnoxious to55ers on this site.

I’m not sure why a thread entitled “Amy Winehouse is Dead” is seen as such an insult to anything else that’s going on in the world. As TJ says, start a thread about “our boys” if it’s annoying you so much, rather than moaning that others haven’t. The Norway comparison just baffles me further…

Like or loath her music AW was good at what she did, and has been for the last few years terrorised by the tabloid press. I’m sure this doesn’t help when you’re trying to get over the troubles she clearly had.

Good work. Bad enough, and from memory it was roasting!

I haven’t ridden it, and have massive respect for those that have (especially in the heat).

However I’ve got even more respect for the punters that rode from Huez up to AdH on downhill bikes after the Mega qualifier because they couldn’t be arsed waiting in the gondola queue.

Bit of a thread resurecetion this, but has anyone seen one for sale anywhere? Remy Absalon was on one at the Mega, looked bloody lovely.

Brycey, the point I’m making is that a full on DH bike is not always the most fun. The tracks mentioned by the OP, Aston, Cwmcarn are a heap of fun on a six inch bike, Aston is probably faster on one given it’s pedally nature. I actually chose to ride my pitch as my DH bike gathered dust.

Fair comment, I’ve got my Northern/Scottish DH tracks head on, I’ve never ridden down there.

As a few have mentioned above and previously, there are some cheap second hand DH bikes about on SDH and Pinkbike. You will get a pretty decent set-up for £1500, and you could easily spend that turning a smaller bike in to an “All Mountain” Jack of all trades, master of none.

If you are in the Alps every year, and do a handful of uplifts/push-ups in the UK (and have the space to store it) this makes the most sense to me, especially as you will still get some dough for it in a year or two.

I didn’t see him but my mate said there was a guy at the Inners Winter Series with his DH on a motorbike.
