An RAF Sea King helicopter, which costs £11,978 per hour to run, including paying for crew, an engineer and fuel, was in the air for nearly five-and-a-half hours across the two days.

What fuel are they using, single malt?

Fuel, people, spares, depreciation, control costs etc. How much does your sea king cost to run?[/quote]
I don’t have one, hence I’m asking. But it’s only the variable costs that count when you say what it cost for a particular call out. I’m assuming that the salaries of the crew are paid regardless of whether they fly; depreciation – unless they crash it it will depreciate on the ground; spares – did they use any, for 5 hour flying?

I’m not saying it isn’t expensive to run a chopper but the press do like to sensationalise and 65 grand sounds a whole lot better than a few hundred.

Doesn’t alter that the crook is still a crook (unless he is dead in a ditch and they just couldn’t find him)

@ART are the things referred to as ‘reducers’ on the page you linked the same as the top hats that deadkenny is taking about? And these are the ‘mounting kit’ ?

My old dog, a Staffy cross was called Deefa. Current dog is small and black and called Cilla. Next dog will probably be called Pavlov.

Ah, good point about the hub, I hadn’t considered that. Cost is rising, maybe I don’t need that 42t cog after all.

I’ve now spotted a replacement carbon cage plate on eBay for £26 so will prob stick with 10 gears for now until I’m feeling a bit more flush.

I’ve already got a N/W ring (WTC) from when I switched to 1×10, I’m just questioning whether a new 11 sp back end will work with it. Can’t see why not but just asking if anyone else already did it.

Thanks, going there in August for a sailing holiday but fancy getting a bike out at least once, the terrain looks great. I’ve googled bike hire and not found much, just these guys who run tours. Maybe I’ll take a morning out with them.

Mrs BOAB is an MRI Radiographer and an expert in these things. She says your scaffolding will be titanium so not a problem but you’ll need to tell them anyway because a scan near that area will show a big ‘black hole’

Was with Zurich for a few years until I went to price-comparison and found out I was paying £200 too much!

Cheapest doesn’t mean best. Remember, when you buy insurance it’s not just the ‘cover’ you are paying for it’s the claims process. A cheap policy provider that refuses to pay out and makes you fight tooth and nail for months and months isn’t good value. Not saying this is the case with your Hastings lot Dez but this is a reason why it’s always good to try to get feedback from people who’ve had cause to make a claim.

What if you bought a frame 2nd hand and put all new parts on it?

Just what I was about to ask, since 2 of my bikes fit this description.

Re. pedalcover.co.uk dos anyone have experience of processing a claim with this company? Cheap is great so long as they pay up when you need them to.

I’m no expert but isn’t VAT due?
Also, look at that invoice number – how many kids didn’t turn up? 😆

Sorry if someone else has already mentioned this, I couldn’t be arsed reading the whole thread.

Juiced when you thought there was nothing left to say, I’d like to add that I think that bike is a bit of a lemon.

Insurance cost / potential loss if they all got nicked is what I’d worry about, but if you have them all covered and you have the space them you don’t have a problem. Unless of course you consider that the distributed use will extend their life and you’ll never get round to upgrading to the latest fad of oval wheels, organic frames or whatever.

New to GoPro here (got one for Crimbo) and used chesty today but didn’t like the result. Maybe it’s the way I ride but it ended up pointing more down than forward, image is ruined by the distraction of knees pumping up and down. Going to try helmet mount next, problem with that is I’ll have to remove the light mount first.

    Questions…
So I need an 18t cog, which one and why?
Revmatt has offered me a Surley but I’ll need a spacer kit, Matt suggested I try Charlie the bike monger who has this.. http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/charlies-spacers–lockring-219-p.asp but the description says 6-9 speed hubs whilst mine is 10. Can anyone recommend a kit for 10 speed hubs?

    On the subject of chains:

SS specific chain is much stronger so chances of snappage a lot lower

    nonsense.

So which is it and why?

    Thanks all.
