BoardinBob +1 But in all honesty I can’t see why you bothered, Rich’s post shouted at volume that he wasn’t going to listen. Like Mike said it read like a Ukip pamphlet.

@Rich – Your guy in the bank story… hahahahahahahaha

I have one in singlespeed guise, great bike for local winter rides. Though mine has Marzocchi forks that I’m planning to switch for rigids,

I run 1×10 on my 456 and Superlight, switching from 3×9 and 2×10 respectively and haven’t looked back; you do need a NW ring though or the chain will fall off at the slightest bump. I got on absolutely fine at Mayhem this year and there was plenty of climbing there, though nothing stupidly steep.
In winter locally I ride my Inbred ss. that’s even better for avoiding the mud clog, but then Warwickshire has even less hills than Leicestershire 🙂

Singlespeed, keeping it real, I like that.

http://thecyclestudio.co.uk/bikefittingservice/%5B/url%5D This is my LBS who are more road than MTB and always give good service. Never used the fitting service myself but they have a very fancy machine if you’re into gadgetry

    The web isn’t everything.

runs a local business providing website development

Compatible? Not exactly selling your services.

originally from Yorkshire but moved to Kings Lynn

    Mountain biker???

These points aside I have a lot of time for the Greens, so good luck!

we were on the Black Mountains last weekend and it kinda dawned on me how remote it was..

If you are going somewhere remote it makes sense to have a route plan and leave a copy with someone telling them when to expect you back. If it’s remote enough chances are you won’t have signal so the emerg serves not understanding you is not your immediate problem.

    Bright copper kettles. Still nope.
Warm woollen mittens. Yes, now we’re getting somewhere.
Brown paper packages tied up with strings. Yes, especially if they come from CRC. ??

PS: Zombie’s wouldn’t be stopped by fire, you’d just have flamming zombie attacking you.

Excuse me, I think you’ll find we have official guidance to the contrary:

“Well, there’s no problem. If you have a gun, shoot ’em in the head. That’s a sure way to kill ’em. If you don’t, get yourself a club or a torch. Beat ’em or burn ’em. They go up pretty easy.”

Never expected to come here for zombie killing advice.

Sorry if naive question, but is clamping on the top tube advisable? I understood (from a bike shop mechanic) that this was not advisable as the top tube wasn’t strong enough, and you risk denting (ie crushing it) it.

His recommendation was that best practise was to always clamp using seat post.

Maybe if you have a nasty carbon frame 😉 ‘Steel is real’ :p

I temporarily converted my HT to SS to give it a go and when I found I could keep up with my regular riding buddies, who are on average 15 years younger than me, I was hooked and built up a permanent steel SS Inbred. There isn’t really anything round my way (Warwickshire) that I can’t ride on it and the main trouble is spinning out on the flats so I’m changing the ratio from 36/20 to 32/16.
I still take gears to Cannock though but I know people who don’t.

no need, as you can see the bolt is now out, unless you mean in order to reuse it but I think I’ll just buy another.

G-clamp was a great idea. Even with the grip off the bars I couldn’t turn the nut but a bit of wd40 and a clamp that was way too big for the job and finally the nut is out. (a bolt actually of course)
So glad I didn’t drill or cut because now I only need a new bolt.
Cutting would have been very difficult because although the was a tiny gap it was no wider that a hacksaw blade. Drilling would almost certainly have made a good old mess of the alloy.
As usual a great team effort from STW, thanks all.

T10 too small, T15 too big. +1 for the cold chisel though (thanks Somafunk). Wrapped it in a towel first to limit damage and bob’s your Knob. Good job it was the outer nut only.
Now to see if I can replace the grip end, but I guess I’m looking at new grips.
Thanks for all the speedy replies.

Do you have the right IS to post mount adaptor on there? Caliper looks angled a bit too far away.

I think the adapter is fine, there’s plenty of room in the caliber mount slots to move it closer, in fact in this picture the nuts aren’t even tightened.
Hoping the tugs turn up tomorrow, I want to ride it! Thanks for the advice btw.

Judging by the comment about my QR should I look to swap to a bolt or does that require a whole new wheel?

    EDIT: I don’t really race
I do, and still find it fine (as was 1×10 with 36t and 11-36), so that’s another use case it works for

Snap! (Apart from the race bit and wouldn’t go back to 2xanything. My other bike is 1x er, 1 🙂 Gets you fit!
