    Thanks for some awesome pics,

    @Kayak23
    I especially liked your canal bridge shot! And @Sparkyrhino – you definitely get to ride in the coolest places. 🙂

    @Timbog160
    – I do like that Gulf paintjob, though mine will be the more stealth look JPS version, thanks for the offer on your 917 frame but it’s way too small for me I’m afraid as I’ 6’4.

    @Stevemuzzy
    – I’ve always fancied bike packing but never got around too it, I’m possibly a bit old now tough :/

    I haven’t read anything to put me off yet so probably going to push the button this afternoon, will post pic once it arrives.

    Is this the one? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/shimano-xtr-rdm972-guide-pulley-bolt-m5-x-126mm-y5wj21000/

    or if you still have that one, this one? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/shimano-xtr-rdm972-tension-pulley-bolt-m5-x-1435mm-y5vw24000/

    It’s one of them, I didn’t appreciate the two were different. The pic I posted is the one I have left so I obviously need the other one. Thanks for the links.

    If they’re the same as SLX ones then there’s a chap that will cannibalise the one from his rear mech just round the corner from you 😉

    How old are you OP?
    Age makes a big difference in recovery time. I’m 54 and overstretched my arch by treading on a root whilst out on a run and had to limp a couple of miles home. The nurse in MIU diagnosed Plantar Fasciitis which took a full four weeks of doing nothing but ice and elevation before I could even walk without pain. 8 weeks later I’m back to 5k 3 or 4 times a week. Rest then build slowly. All the best.

    Could I just say I’m a mountain biker and a fell walker? Oh and a roadie and a driver.

    I too am all of the above, and also a slow old man fwiw.

    Tkmaxx do battery packs, I’ve bought a couple from there in the past and they’re just as good as the more expensive ones from Morphie and the like

    Cool, thanks for the replies, I’ve ordered a Ravpower 16w.
    Good idea about charging a battery pack, she already has one of those.

    Thanks for those replies, some useful tips and pointers there.

    Has your son not got any friends who are Students in London that he could share a house for the year? that is usually the cheapest option

    Not sure if he has but I’ll suggest that too.

    you might need to define tight

    I think 18k was mentioned

    I built him up a bike to take to uni in the first year but Loughborough is all on one campus so he didn’t use it and I returned it to the parts bin. I feel a singlespeed project coming on 🙂

    the second too last climb looked brutal. I’d have been on a SS, too.

    The climb from the Wye up to Christchurch was merciless, the whole way up I was thinking “thank goodness I didn’t bring the ss after all”. Banana stop at the top was most welcome.

    Maybe Jeremy Corbyn a cycled across the OP’s land, without a helmet and where there is no right of way, in order to reach his inconsiderately parked 4×4 van conversion and now the op is too embarrassed to talk about it.

    Hmm, I think not, I’m more likely to be the one cycling across somebody else’s land, but I’ll agree my post is a tad embarrassing. I was just practicing image posting and trying out new image hosting sites. I naively didn’t expect comments :/

    I’m hosting from Cloudapp.

    I’m looking for a quick and easy way to upload and then embed an image. Most sites seem to end up taking you to the site rather than just embedding the image. I had to fiddle around with the cut and paste string to get it to work

    I’d expect the ss to roll faster, but you have to compare like with like (same tyres and wheel size predominantly). Time both bikes rolling, not pedalling on the same road descent and you’ll know for sure.

    Out on my ss Stooge yesterday I was rolling past others down the hills, and pedalling up faster too for that matter :). Stick with it SS is way more rewarding.
