Any test equipment needed to be put back into “working service” will need to be calibrated , they all lose accuracy to some degree over time.

modern day electricians / instrument technicians are unlikely to use such meters now in the work place , EAW legislation requires a certain level of built in user protection & safety test leads that old kit like this cant provide.

best use for it is to plonk it on a display shelf at home just for nostalgia’s sake and fiddle with knobs and needles now and then for sh*ts & giggles.

The only thing i can take away from this thread , judging by some of the naive & trusting attitudes of some commentators towards the conduct of todays plod , is that the British public are sleepwalking into an unchallenged police state.

All the other tittle tattle being posted just looks petty and childish to the casual observer.

If halfords dont make an XL size  , which your son at 6’4″ clearly needs , then you;re outta luck unfortunately.

a quick look shows they do the vengeance in a XL if thats any use ?

The problem with this political discussion ,  from what i’ve read , is that its entirely voiced by 1 side only , so complete & utter retarded drivel can be spouted unchallenged , like this ….

Good point – but an election turns people on politicians, a referendum will turn people on on each other. Which scenario is better is up for debate, personally I would rather see people blame each other for this mess as opposed to politicians as the blaming the political establishment allows the public to ignore their role in creating this mess and dodge collective responsibility.

So your suggesting that the past 3 years of shambolic , ineffective , and self serving behaviour of Parliament from all parties is the fault of the electorate because of how they voted in the referendum ?

How selfish that  those 17.4 million people couldn’t just tow the line to fit in with the Westminister elites way of thinking eh ?

Heaven forbid we hold politicians accountable when we should blaming ourselves for daring to have a say on this country’s future.

Yes , we deserve to suffer more for exercising our democratic rights , correct ?

Christ almighty , dumb doesn’t even come close to describing this kind of sentiment.

It looks to me like you gents have been talking amongst yourselves for so long that you genuinely think the views expressed here are representative of the wider public.

This forthcoming  general election with be the biggest reality check of all time

As you were , carry on  :-)

That headtube welding admittedly looks pants , i thought it was expanding foam at first

Light grey matt paint job doesnt help either , you wouldnt notice any of it if it was gloss black.

Knowing it was to be resprayed i’d have been tempted to flatten & polish smooth alot of those welds , but thats probably because i dont have a girlfriend and have oodles of spare time lol

must have rode barely a dozen times last year , just couldnt be arsed in general in addition to feeling lethargic from long hours at work during summer.

however my bike was pretty fuk’d so a £500 rebuilt over winter and the mojo returned.

have been out riding more times in first 6 months of this year than the last 2 years combined.

will expect it to drop off during the worst of winter being realistic , not going to ride in the cold wet crap just to prove some point , just have to be more selective in when to ride so as to still enjoy it.

Then of course there’s Shimano M4000 (Alivio) which looks like it might do the job too.

which is what i use with my 1 x 8sp. bike

long cage will handle 42t cassette with 30/32t front ring no probs

only 25 quid and works a charm

Quite often an internal cavity steel lintel will be used instead of an exterior concrete / stone slab.

it will appear as if only the door frame is holding brick up as only a 6mm or so thick lip is visable

oh and lolz @ the comments by those who clearly dont work in construction  ;-)

Ah ok , well those sectors will be a noticable improvement on the 12 year toras you have now.

i have a recon coil and theyre very smooth.

if you got them cheap enough then its probably worth sending them away for a service if they are not performing as they should.

and having 2 travel settings is quite a handy feature

you must really love that old bike to be contemplating spending £350 just on replacement forks – hardly beer money !

i’d be looking at 2nd hand to be honest , it will be better value with a bigger choice as theres very little around for 26″ brand new.

Not many ‘vote leave’ voices on this thread

Hardly surprising is it ,  as it will take all of 5 seconds from posting to be labelled a racist gammon.

Was into detailing for a couple of years when i wasnt doing much bike riding , eventually got bored of wasting  the considerable amount of time spent doing it  , though i do realise many get alot of pleasure and satisfaction from it.

The only bit i still enjoy is applying water repellent sealant on the windows so i can watch the rain roll off from the air flow.

Gtechniq G5 is a great product for this.

i use 20mm wide double sided velcro tape , comes on a roll in 1 mtr lengths for just a couple of quid on ebay , just cut to length

makes it easy to adjust tightness and the soft fabric side doesnt wreck paint

    As per the OP.

Just last week flew into miami with a kilo of coke down my pants , thanks to my pinstrip suit , bowler hat & cut-glass english accent.

it was the perfect ruse , immigration busied themselves with surfer type dudes……

flown into USA loads of times , never encountered anything remotely approaching what chromo states.

They are tolerable for short journeys , reasonably punctual compared to most airlines , and have a large european network.

everything else involved with using them is just miserable tbh.

how are regular bikes painted from new when they are not powder coated?

With a high volume air compressor sprayer , then oven baked to harden.

i resprayed my bike using cans of enamel paint , has its limitations but perfectly respectable results if your realistic about its not going to be a perfect factory finish

its alot of work though and cost a good £50 on paint / materials

like most things in life there’s an effective middle ground

dont go the way of the zealots on the detailing forum , you’ll disappear down a rabbit hole of researching “nano sealants” and devote every weekend examing bird poop stains.

on the other hand simply washing the motor with a bucket of fairy liquid and a sponge you found on the garage flloor will lead to shit results accompanied with slowly worsening paint condition.

a small tub of decent cleaning products and an acceptance that a few hours need to be put aside for a respectable job is a manageable compromise

Is this piddling wiring discrepancy such a  big deal  breaker for this prospective buyer ?

serious buyers are rarely bothered by such trivial issues in my exp.

most house buyers are usually so unconcerned with electrics very few bother to commission their own wiring inspection reports.

and the majority will spend 10 times more on a new kitchen than bringing the wiring up to “code”

i’d be telling them to jog on , sold as seen etc , fixing it may open the floodgates to further trivial complaints and opportunities to drive price down.

ps im a spark and 2 way lighting is always a head scratcher for the diyer

May i suggest simply practicing emergency stops somewhere safe until you’ve found  , and become familiar with , the limit of breaking force & traction for the bike your using.

You’ll soon learn to  come to stop quicker whilst retainimg control
