Those chainrings are pretty big , 36T & 26T chainrings for middle and small will make pedaling much easier regardless of cassette range.
Changing cassette alone may not make enough of a difference imo.
Funnily enough im having a parts clearout and have available ;
almost new shimano HG41 11-34T 8 sp cassette
almost new shimano 32T 8/9sp chainring
brand new shimano 22T 8/9sp chainring.
you can have the lot for £25 if interested.
brownsauceFree MemberThis thread is the ultimate showcase for first world problemism.
You poor darlings having to endure such nasty and uncultured foreign hot beverages….
;-)
brownsauceFree Memberusual maintenance of removing and cleaning after every few rides……..
Really ? removing cranks and stripping BB is not something i’d want to do more than once every 18mths
not sure that many would consider that usual but still , if youre happy and wotnot.
brownsauceFree MemberTakes about a nanosecond for the zinc to wear off the internal surfaces of the chain
I dont buy that for a minute considering i’ve got a 5 year old shimano cassette with little to no wear on its zinc plating even on the teeth…..
brownsauceFree MemberI’m surprised those using wax aren’t using fully zinc plated chains , ( at least it doesnt sound like they are ) thus completely avoiding any surface corrosion after use in the wet.
i know i would if i was using putoline…..
brownsauceFree MemberI do all my riding wearing jeans , trainers , and a soft shell work jacket from screwfix.
Cycling specific clothing in all forms is a complete rip-off.
brownsauceFree MemberOf all the problems in the world only STW manages to find such piffling bollox to complain about as discarded tees on a golf course……
brownsauceFree MemberStrewth , Im amazed at what folk pay for consumable drive-train parts these days with the latest gear set-ups , makes me glad im still using 9 speed stuff where descent cassettes & chains can be had for £20 a piece..
brownsauceFree MemberIf, for example, farms can’t be run profitably then they should fail and the farmer find another job they can do properly.
yeah , its not like we need food or anything is it…….
brownsauceFree MemberYou want a blood test after sanding some skirting boards ?
this is a wind up right ?
brownsauceFree Memberinstead of using a combination of Fairy Liquid and white spirit,
which are both appalling for painted finishes lol.
white spirit will dry out clear coats and washing up liquids often contain abrasive sodium salts.
at least youre now on the right path :-)
brownsauceFree MemberI’d happily pay an extra tenner towards the manpower required to make a case and prosecute licence fee dodgers like this one who think that they are above the law. Benefits from services paid for by all, thinks he’s somehow entitled to not pay his share, making us all proportionally pay a little more as a result. Classy. Wonder if he pays his car tax, or whether he brags about dodging that one, too?
You sound exactly like the sort of self righteous and unquestioning sheeple the BBC is relying on to keep their gravy train of gross waste & warped P.C. culture on the rails.
If you dont use any of the BBC’s services , which is quite easy as most of it is garbage , then a person of reasonable mind will probably challenge the fact that they are legally forced to contribute to Gary LInkers £1.6million a year wages to chat about football twice a week.
brownsauceFree MemberEven with a chain line suitably adjusted for 1x , theres always at least some chain rub noise when using the biggest rear cog., plus moving the chainring inwards too far just moves the same issue to the smallest cassette cogs instead.
Is the chain running straight when in the middle cog ?
Thats what i’d aim for as a compromise without knowing any further details of your set-up
brownsauceFree MemberActual lever position wont make any difference on a shimano bleed , reach adjuster doesnt move the fluid pistion inside
Although if you have the free stroke adjuster ( the small 2 pronged bolt on the front for SLX M7000 models and later ) then unscrew this all the way out prior to a bleed , it will allow more fluid in
brownsauceFree MemberI’d probably hang fire on involving the police at this stage , their arrival wont help resolve your immediate family issues
Plus it could be your son who ends up getting charged regardless of your original intentions………
brownsauceFree MemberThey are a working breed , the arctic equivalent of a border collie , and as such require masses of exercise and to be challenged mentally.
.Not always but can be temperamental in behaviour / aggressive to other dogs
I would not recommend adopting 2 unless you were a very experienced dog handler..
Bloke across the road friom me has 2 , lives in 2 bed semi with little garden , only walks them round the block twice a day and thinks its ample exercise , the rest of the time they sit staring out the window looking bored.
They need an hours run every day.
He should have got a jack russell instead.
brownsauceFree MemberIts fairly unlikely that an induction hob will actually use much that much more power than an equivalent sized halogen.
the larger 90cm hobs use around 9kw ( as shown by adding up the individual plate wattage values in your first pic ) before applying diversity ( lowering the actual rated load due to cyclic use , shown in your second pic )
If your cooker circuit hasnt tripped out using a halogen hob then its unlikely to trip using an induction.
Just dont buy an induction hob with a higher power rating than what youre using now and you *should* be ok.

brownsauceFree MemberI dont mind winter when its that very cold but clear bright dry type , but that rarely happens so we get that gloomy wet windy shit instead.
Any noticeable / usable increase in daylight doesnt become apparent till mid Feb unfortunately
from what i remember , for every day that passes after today , there is an extra 3 mins of daylight for each day until the longest day of the year.
brownsauceFree MemberBikes with 50T cassettes and a piddling 28T chain ring up front look ridiculous
2×10 provides the ultimate gear set up for nearly all cycling applications
brownsauceFree MemberLovin this thread , a free open rant makes the perfect tonic to the pre-xmas stress period
Sram gears are clunky junk compared to shimano
Tubeless is way more faff than many will readily admit
internal cabling for a mtb is a victory for stupidity & style over common sense & practicality
brownsauceFree MemberFat bikes – sorry but everyone I’ve ever seen riding one looks cartoon daft.
Gravel Bikes – slower heavier less efficient / aero than a road racer , less than half the off road capability of a mtb – pure marketing bollox
Bikepacking – like touring in a caravan & bringing all your junk along but not having the comfort of room service , sleeping in cow dung under a plastic sheet with your SAS survival kit. Lunacy in the UK’s climate
Basic road cycling skills / proficiency element should be compulsory to getting a UK driving licence.
Club / group road riding sounds about as much fun as dental surgery
brownsauceFree Memberif the rcd is not tripping on energization , but only when “under load” , £5 says the swa cable is connected to the wrong neutral bar in the house C.U. , or a similar wiring fault at the garage
we’ve all done it whilst tired or rushing near the end of a tough day :-)
brownsauceFree MemberOf course Scotland could use the pound. It’s partly ours
Rubbish , the Bank of England acts as the ultimate guarantor for the pound , and whilst still part of the union , the funny money version.Scotland prints.
B of E is under no obligation whatsoever to underwrite the currency of a nation that has just become independant. , thus will not give Scotland permission to carry on using the GBP.
Not that it matters anyway as the EU membership Scotland seeks will come with the non negotiable clause of adopting the euro.
brownsauceFree MemberAs usual , the reality is less glamorous
Too old for a company sponsored electrical apprenticeship at 36
2 degrees wont count for much im afraid if you want to go down the long hard slog of self funding & organising a proper NVQ , working as a labourer , then improver , on building sites through agencies to get work experience , but it has the best reward at the end of it – a JIB gold card = industry approved electrician
But most mid-life career changers go down the fast track domestic installer route , paying many thousands for a fist full of overpriced City & guilds certificates after just a few weeks training , and off you go for a career of house bashing and lifting floor boards and chasing bricks out to pull cables , it will be a bit of a shock when your only previous is working at a bank and a bit of backpacking
I became a spark 25 years ago just to work on the big stuff , commercial , industrial , massive cables , steel conduit & tray , 6ft high fuse boards , all the exciting stuff really.
The thought of spending my time fitting kitchen spotlights and pulling up carpets doesnt seem too appealing to me , but for many is the only path into this trade for those determined to try it , it will cost alot though.
brownsauceFree MemberAaah , its the kids of the first films’ characters , how cute.
looks a whole load of meh to me.
brownsauceFree MemberIs it like some paint finishes that get harder/stronger over time?
Without an oven to bake the painted parts and speed up the curing process , many paint types can take upto a month to reach full hardness.
After respraying my bike frame in enamel , i left it leaning against the kitchen radiator for 3 weeks so as to avoid chips & marking when coming to re-assemble the bike
brownsauceFree MemberI know nothing of the program you speak of but was wondering today how saturdays fight will pan out.
Not sure that AJ took the first fight as seriously as he should but i expect a bit of a bounceback and hope he wins back his belts – I always support fellow Brits in any sport
Just a bummer i dont have the means to watch the fight live., assuming its only on sky box office or similar
brownsauceFree MemberHave you mistakenly fitted a 68mm BB to a 73mm frame / shell ?
I wouldnt expect internal threads to be visible to that extent
brownsauceFree MemberIt was an acting masterclass from a 12 year old Natalie Portman in my op.
& Luc Bessons’ films are always watchable.
brownsauceFree MemberDoes cctv really act as a deterrent?
Not really , hoodie up and scarf wrapped around lower face and even the highest quality images are rendered useless.
You wouldnt believe the sheer brazeness of todays career thieves , you need physical protection rather than hi-tech deterrents , and that includes the pvc backdoor.
security is only as good as the weakest point etc etc.
brownsauceFree MemberTheres not a sniff of anyone making it to xmas eve unless you spend the next 24 days in a sensory deprivation tank lol
brownsauceFree MemberPro tradesman here and another +1 for makita.
All the main players dewalt , bosch et all are decent and comparable at a price point but makita has a massive product range and a really good battery / charger platform for the cordless tools.
brownsauceFree MemberCant stand the bloated , fuzzy headed beer after shock these days so its hard spirits only for me , feel as clear as a whistle the next day :-)
though the odd guiness goes down well
brownsauceFree MemberLast year I built up a 26″ xc hardtail , with mostly new parts , onto a 9 year old frame , and have been considering when the time comes , to transfer all of it including the 26″ wheels , onto a 27.5 frame and just live the fact the BB will be 15mm or so lower.than intended.
Could this be an option for the OP ?
Will prob need 27.5 specific forks so as not to upset the geo / handling but will at least open up options of newer frames to use his 26″ wheelset with..
Just a thought.
brownsauceFree MemberA komodo free standing floor bike stand – a simple yet incredibly useful bike related product for just 12 quid , cant believe i waited until this year to buy one , makes repairs & cleaning so much easier.
Also the Ergon GA3 winged grips shown earlier in the thread , complete game changer in terms of rider comfort.
Forntunately i cant think of any really duff purchases so far…..
brownsauceFree MemberYes, the good ones would be right up at the front of the queue. Because they are the people who figure stuff out and get stuff done.
If by “stuff” you mean flow charts & power point presentations i’d rather stay on earth and get vapourised., i have little faith in your version of mankinds survival
brownsauceFree MemberEnough of the corporate gobbledegook , this shits about to get real……..
NASA detects giant asteroid on collision course with earth
An ark is build to save a small part of the population
Would business analysts be one of the occupations chosen as essential for the survival of mankind ?
Not on your f****ing nelly..
checkmate and nice knowing ya
:-D
brownsauceFree MemberFine, let’s take race out of it. You still haven’t said what an appropriate level of karma would be.
Shunning? Workplace ‘accident’? ‘Random’ attack in the street? ‘Random’ attack on his family?
I’m curious what level of cosmic revenge you think would be appropriate.
I can see youre all emotional and looking for an argument with these wild ramblings so i’m going to refrain from engaging further as you sound a bit of an unhinged tit.
