Various reasons = stopping faster in traffic – London requires you to keep your wits about you I find, and I have some spare sitting around that I’d like to find a use for. The roadrat is also a fast bike and more fun the faster you ride it too!

I’m running a flat bar btw, not drops

I’ve had 2.5 years out from a broken collarbone that never fixed until this Feb. Still not allowed on my bike till May and it’s doing my nut. Got a knee injury that needs sorting as well. Lost my fitness and put on weight. Worse thing is, usually when I’m fed up I go ride my bike!

But, self pity never sorted anyone’s problems. You love biking, you don’t do century rides without a f*ck of a lot of determination.

Time now to remember how much you love riding and use some of that grit to dig in and go back to the doc and get sorted. You’re a lucky man to have discovered how awesome riding a bike is. Don’t waste it…

    Good luck

That Telegraph article is really shocking. Not just because of the obvious but also IMHO of the clear attempt to rile the Tory-voting middle classes :-)

Freezing is the way forward. + I only ever use water in the bladder – no squash, no energy powders – I take gel and cereal bars to eat for that stuff. Bladder is years old, weekly use and still clean

I reckon David H et al are actively doing more to take account of the external costs of their jobs than most of the slagger-offers above. They’re not perfect but they’re trying. Those of you who think they do the ethical thing purely to sell more stuff, I dare you pop up to Cardigan and say it to their faces. I hope you don’t fail to see the good in everyone you meet like that.

    You

Which one of these people is most in control of the decisions you make about your life, how you behave and how you spend your money??

    Of course, the PM.

Oh re Bontrager. I was in BC last summer getting some stuff sorted and this rather scruffy bloke called Keith wandered in wearing a skull cap wanting some stuff fixed. They were dead friendly to him, clearly knew him well. I looked up a few images on Google when I got home and ’twas the man himself so I guess there’s a connection there…

You can’t compare Evans with Brixton Cycles. Evans are a business selling bikes. The customer doesn’t seem that important to them. BC are a co-operative of people who love bikes so have decided to do that for a living. They can be a little too cool for school but I like them a lot. Proper LBS.

    Molgrips. Second everything you say.

I got a guided tour round the Houses of Parliament and Lords yesterday. VERY interesting. Makes you appreciate we live in one of the most open and democratic countries in the world and something we should spend more time celebrating and showing gratitude for. Sure policitians can be self-interested and greedy and sometimes dishonest. Show me a member of the public who isn’t?

61% of people voted in the last general election. The 39% who didn’t should go and live in Russia/Sri Lanka/Zimbabwe etc for a year and see if they can learn to be grateful for the great priviledge they have…

    Over and out ;-)

I like mine a lot and use them for MTB, darkside and running but they really need something on the lenses to stop them steaming up – close fitting so they do it a lot. I do put out a lot of heat mind…

Plas-Y-Brenin would be a knowledgeable bunch to call.

TBH if you’re not that confident in winter conditions, Snowdon’ll still be there in a few months time with much less liklihood of risky weather. Snow and ice can stay around on a summit of that height for days or even weeks after the valley floor has been in warm weather…

Whatever the legal ins and outs I now have Pikes on my bike… £400 poorer is better than a broken neck. Hope Russ Pinder can now live life as fully as he can now he (presumably) has financial security…

    My 2 pennorth:

    1. The alternative to Capitalism has AFAIK only ever produced human misery on an epic scale, far worse than our current situation. Capitalism isn’t perfect but I do wish people would be a little more grateful for what they have got than complaining about the bit that’s wrong all the time e.g. we don’t get imprisoned or shot for openly disagreeing with the government.

    2. You may find that bonuses for some of these individuals were guaranteed and written into their contracts which means the bank has no choice but to pay. In the long term maybe guaranteed bonuses may be scrapped of course but too late to do anything about it now

    3. No-one ever held a gun to my head and forced me to spend on my credit card or buy a mortgage. If individuals have debt to an unaffordable level, how can it be some rich guy in the City’s fault and never ever the person who signed the piece of paper applying for it?

Actually, we mostly like to go on this forum, argue about current affairs/social issues/other people’s morals, buy some stuff from CRC or share a Wiggle voucher, ask what tyres we should buy. And then realise we haven’t ridden our bikes for ages cos we’ve been spending all our time on the forum ;-)

In my Five I dropped some air out of my shock to get a slacker head angle and ended up getting pedal strike so just put a little more air in. Try 5psi at a time, you’ll prob get to a balance pretty easily
