Can’t find any Tough casings available so looks like a rethink. Was thinking the light versions were maybe too fragile for the Lakes. Shame. Last year I rode the Jennride on a full sus with Minion DHF 2.6 up front and a Rekon 2.6 on the rear. Fancy riding it this year on a hardtail but would like a 2.8 or 3.0 combo. What combinations can singletrackworld folk recommend?

Went on without too much drama on 40mm rim with just a cheap floor pump. Put a tube in first though to get it seated.

Thanks woody2000. That was my worry. A tough would definitely be preferable but trying to find one in stock is a mare. Running a Pike up front so I’m thinking okay at the front.

Hey Hoff it was indeed me. Likewise, it was an absolute pleasure to ride alongside you, maybe more behind you! I would’ve gone hungry too if you hadn’t shown this newbie bikepacker how to use his stove! 🤣🤣🤣

A great write up from Helen.and.hills. You’ve really summed up the weekend perfectly. I think we shared the early ferry trip across Windermere. It was my first jennride and at that point I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was the hardest weekend of riding I think I’ve ever done but easily the most rewarding. Jennriders are an ace bunch of folk. Now missing the mountains and all who made the weekend such a mind blowing experience. Big thanks to all and especially Rich! (PS If anyone found a pair of large Dakine knee pads maybe you could message me. They were lost on the descent down to Loughrigg Terrace).

I’ve tried! It would be a helluva lot easier if I could disable him though. Please, any advice anyone?

Does anyone know if the Jennride will still be taking place this year?

Interesting read here. Might try this later as I need to bleed my rear Guide RS. . . https://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=190668

Okay, so after initial dumb question the post is now fitted and happily goes up and down as it should reaching the full 170mm extension. This is my first non Reverb post and, although, as others have said the lever feels a bit underwhelming, first impressions are very good. The build quality on the post itself is great, with no left to right play in the saddle, it comes with a two year warranty and I only paid £99.00 for it at Start Fitness (with code EXTRA10 for 10% off). For a budget build it’s spot on.

Just returned from four days riding in Torridon and Skye with a new 5010 alloy. Bought as frame only and running with a 140mm Fox performance Elite on the front and 2.6 tyres. The bike handled everything with no problem. Climbs well, descends great and feels super comfortable for long day rides. It generally makes me feel like a better rider than I probably am and gives me added confidence to attempt things I would have avoided in the past. Great too for forest singletrack I ride an XL so can feel a bit weighty on any hike-a-bike sections, but other than that I’m loving it. Caught an old chap admiring it the other day, “reckon you could ride on the moon with that” he said. He could be right!

Thanks snapperdan. High praise indeed! What size tyre are you running? Did you go for the 2.6 option? Until I can afford a new set of wheels I’ll be using those off my Chameleon which run 2.8 width. Hoping I can drop to a 2.6 width tyre on the rims (race face ar40) without too much drama. Out of interest too, which colour did you go for? I’m drawn to the purple but need to see it in the flesh. Much prefer a gloss finish to the black matt which could look as though it’s been ridden through a warzone after a few rides.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Settling on the new alloy frame so now thinking about parts for the build. Will go for a Pike up front but either 130 or 140mm of travel. Complete bikes are specced with a 130mm. Anyone out there running a 140mm on the new frame?

Definitely not a hardcore enduro ride but plan to test ride the new alloy frame just to put my mind at rest. The longer reach of the new frame does appeal and the fact you can run up to a 2.6 width tyre. I have a 2018 chameleon with the same reach as the new 5010 and it runs 2.8 tyres. Big fan of the wider tyre. I’m soooo confused.

Not sure if  I can get an angle grinder in there so might have to do it all with a hacksaw or a combination of both. It’s a hollow shaft which helps.

Umm Loughrigg Fell looks good too. So much choice and so little time.

Thanks all. Keen to give Warna Scar a go. I read on different forums some of the route had been sanitised and as a result had lost some of it’s appeal. Is there any truth in that? Around Grizedale looks good too, so any GPS files would be great. Might also head to Whinlatter. I’m thinking the kids may enjoy some trail centre stuff too. They’ve been to Coed Y Brenin and loved it.

Anyone used Yellow Jersey Cycle Insurance? Very extensive single trip insurance for £50.00. Sounds reasonable.

Mikewsmith, does your home insurance cover the bike whilst in transit?

Thanks all for the advice. Seems a number of companies close up over August as they say it’s too damn hot. Has anyone been in that area in August?

    26 inch wheels.

Read somewhere long cage mech was best for 11-42 cassette??

Think I’ll stick with the XT at those prices.

Based in Brighton much of my riding involves the South Downs. In your opinion is an 11-42 cassette and a 32T ring suitable? Can anyone confirm the type of mech I will need. I’m thinking long cage (not medium). Thanks for all the comments so far.

I’ve heard good things about the White Room too so I’ll check them out. I’m hoping there are some like minded Dad’s out there who’ll be in the area in August and fancy hooking up for a few rides without guides. I’ll be there from August 8th – 21st. I can’t be the only one??

Thanks Northwind. I’ll check him out. I’ve been in touch with Trail Addiction who might be able to squeeze me in for the day. Just trying to avoid getting hopelessly lost and making the most of the riding without the family in tow.
