Actually, what must be really difficult for Canyon is that their bikes are probably paid for in dollars. Presume they do buy Far East production? The fall of the euro against the dollar could wipe them out. It is possible the fall % is bigger than their margins.

Ok, they may have hedge their currency, but it would have taken a big gamble to do so. There is simply no way to know which way things will go. After burning their fingers, as my company did, it usually reverts to no speculation and stick to a couple of months cover just to pay up and coming bills.

As I said, big currency fluctuations are a nightmare. When the Euro falls apart after the Greek exit and Putin goes to war to take over the Baltic States we might have more to worry about than the price of Canyon bikes.

dangeourbrain, your so full of ……

Canyon business model is direct selling. Simple they sell direct. From Europe. At Euro prices, till now. They have screwed up and could you possibly post on subjects you know something about.

dangeourbrain, don’t believe you have any actual experience in cross currency trading.

So, you reckon they have lots of stock of unavailable carbon fatbikes do you?

The whole currency exchange issue is a nightmare for businesses. One year a company I worked for had the whole of our UK profits written off by currency exchange losses in the US. You learn never to hedge currency, and just deal with it month to month.

So, Canyon UK management have made a seriously bad judgement is not run with current exchange rates. They were just trying to stabilise prices, and avoid higher UK prices if the rates went the other way. They now have to reappraise their decision and change it. They have to. An extra layer of distribution/magement is getting in the way of their sell direct ethos.

The codes were due to stop working on the 1st Dec, but I guess so many people are order that they have left them working. Fatties by the bucketload being ordered. Code worked for me, no issues and frameset here now.

Found the headset is FSA C-40 No42 ACB.

It is shown on the Pickwnflick frameset page as £29, but when you click on it the price ups to £49 so very frustrating. Had this before with On One site.

Not quite worked out Hope equivalent yet.

Arrived very quickly. Ordered Tuesday, arrive mid day today, Thursday.

Placed Fargo wheels on frame to judge sizing and medium looks good for me at 5’10”, just enough top, tube clearance.

Tyres are 50mm, fit but too tight so will need some 40mm tyres. What’s best for gravel riding on the New Forest tracks.

Will,go with Hope headset I think. Does site spec exactly which headset I need?

Hadn’t heard the mid Jan date. Is that from Sam. I was also thinking of asking for an update. More or less given up and just about to use all the bits I have bought on another frame buildup. Might hang on if mid Jan is actually possible? Thing is that a mid Jan date would mean they are finished, painted nd inspected, just about to ship. Can Dam confirm that?

The Frameset is already 20% off and the code still works. Also works on the amazing pink tyres Fatty offer.

I have just ordered a frameset, will swap all I can over from unused large Fargo. The extra 20% off code is still working so frameset came to £639. Nearest frameset such as Kinesis or Sabbath about double that.

    Code is ukstaffcla20

I need a much shorter top tube than I used to, so went for the medium, 5’10” height. Frame is short and a bit tall so was also worried about stand over, so will see how medium works out.

I have owned a number of TI bikes and they do have a special feel and pleasure of ownership.

The Fireline geometry numbers on On One website look a bit odd.

    http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FRTITFL29/titus-ti-fireline-evo-29er-frame

Stack and reach are H and I

    Numbers are just miles out.

Are the stack and reach actually I and J. Makes sense then.

Thanks Daffy. Reading this Road CC test the bike is a 55 and the tester is 181cm and the bike looks right, so for,me, a 55 should work I think.

Thanks Tonolinoa. I do wish On One would include more measrements in their frames details.

So I can compare with current frame, I would be grateful if you could measure two actual measurements on the frame.

The actual top tube, from mid point of seat tube where top tube intersects to the mid point of where the top tube intersects the head tube.

Same for the seat tube, centre of bottom bracket to mid point of top tube/ seat tube intersection.

Thinking that if I bought the frameset I can leave the fork steerer uncut until best position found.

Apologies to OP for thead drift, grateful for chance to ask owners about sizing.

Feel the same as The-milkybar-kid, beautiful Frameset at a terrific price.

Would it be ok to ask about sizing? I am 178cm, 5’10 and prefer a shorter more upright position these days, so thinking medium would be good. Does this sound right to you owners out there?

Early feedback from my son who has just finished his Evo 456C build. Gone for all rigid using the Lurcher fork.

Very smooth, compliant and fast. He has been riding a Ti bike (all TI, frame , rigid forks, saddle, bars, seat post) for a long time and although carbon does not seem as instantly responsive as a TI frame, he is actually riding in a higher gear than before so is going faster. He is very impressed. Carbon stem and bars also helps in ride quality as well.

He is genuinely pleased with his new build and I am really looking forward to a go at the weekend.

Are the reach and stack numbers correct on the On One sizing page? Seems amazingly long and high when measure from bottom bracket?

If On One already have a fork that takes 29+, my son has one in his 456C, what chance they will do a carbon 29+ frame? Anyone heard anything?

My son did not want his kids behind him where he could not keep an eye on them and sort them out if there was a problem. He was right and his bike has been completely successful and he does not ride any other bike now

His bike is a Bullett bike, but it is quite expensive but a frame only might work for you.

When he first had it in London it got more attention than a Ferrari. Lots more of them in Copenhagen where he now lives.

Shared use needs a bell. It’s amazing how often walkers complain I have no bell, when in fact I do have a bell, but try not to,use it because it seems rude when in fact walkers really do seem to prefer a good bell ring from some distance away so they know you are not about to run them down and they have time to respond.
I feel I am demanding they move and am happy to take time to pass slowly, but they seem to prefer my using the bell.

I have been riding the shared use sea wall path from Keyhaven to Lymington for 35 years and after a fair number of incidents with walkers realised something that I wished I had known for all my life.

What I realised was that 1/3 of people are shits. It is as simple as that. 2/3 will smile, say hellow, even keep a gate open for you. But 1/3 will rather have a go at you even though they are out walking through beautiful salt marsh countryside, birds all around and the Solent with sail boats everywhere.

If someone had a go at me, I used to brood on it, and try to thing of a response I should have given. But now I simply laugh to myself, and say, yes 1/3 of people really are shits.

Just the other day a woman, they are mostly women, had a go at me about riding on the sea wall. She claimed she had read the sign which said it was not a cycling path. I explained she did not read the rest of the sign which explained that it was a permissive path and cycling is allowed but they must take care.

She just refused to accept this. I asked what was the matter with her, why did she have to attack a cyclist. Her husband joined in to say they were cyclists. I could not believe this, flabbergasted. She still having a go at me, I turned to him and expressed my regret that he was married to such a miserable cow, and that I felt sorry for him.

Just a few yards further was another sign saying cyclists please take care. Proving just a few yards on that I was correct.

I wish I had know all my life that 1/3 are shits. My life would have been so much easier, and I would have found dealing with people I just could not understand so much easier.

Not at all, the frames are made and shipped to the U.S. and the UK. Prices should be the same. Frames are not bought from the U.S. and imported, ex factory cost would be what? £250? Then Surly, then Ison, then Charlie plus the tax man. Too many steps. I worked in a company exporting worldwide and we had to have a single world price. It was tough and hard work, but we tried. Surly ain’t trying.
