I have a brand new unused Rooster in medium yellow. I have recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour so have my hands full with coping with the after effects of surgery, chemo and radio treatment.

Perhaps PM me if interested. Not thought of price,

When replacing 120mm suspension forks with rigid carbon forks, is 470mm axle crown correct? Thinking Salsa advise 483mm as the loaded 100mm fork length, so a 120mm fork replacement should be more?

Like the On One Carbon Monoocoque fork, but unsure if axle crown is long enough at 470mm.

    395g 2.1 x 26 Schwalbe Thunder Burt Liteskin.

New Forest (undulating gravel and horse tracks)

Fast and comfortable. No punctures. Grip very well even in poor conditions and don’t hold mud at all. Less absolute grip than a High Roller or even a Rocket Ron but miles faster and I find that more exciting. Wouldn’t ever ride anything that weighed more than 450g ish, but the riding is XC here. Best tyres I’ve ever found for New Forest.

That Inbred will be a great bike.

Riders in this for the last 30 years, like I have, will know, that’s a solid bike. Steel double butted frame, zero maintenace fork, shimano servicable deore hubs with big ball bearings, steel freehub and strong stiff axles and quick releases. X5 works, cheap to replace if ever needed. It’ll be nimble and easy to throw around and will fit in the back of the car with the wheels on. To top it off, it needs a triple 24-32-42 and a lighter 11-32 casette.

In the last 30 years I’ve gone through rigid bikes (Diamon back Ascent Ex – Spec. Stumpjumper to all Titanium DNA frame and forks – to full suspension Marin Mount Vision (too heavy and slow uphill) to fat bikes (On One fatty) (loads of grip but to much tyre weight to spin uphill bike weight to lift over fences) back to all rigid On One 456 Carbon Evo with a carbon lurcher fork with Olympic rims on Deore hubs.

I love my Deore hubs. They spin so freely and are quiet compared to my Hopes. Fewer seals than the XT, so if you can be bothered to mainatain them you can coast really free. My rigid carbon bike is lighter than the Inbred for sure, but it speeds uphill and down like no ther bike I’ve owned. It’s much smoother than the same bike built in all titanium. It’a great all day ride (at 42 I wanted a higher front that the 456 carbon evo gives). I run Schwalbe Thunder Burts all year. They’re very light, fast and don’t hold mud, even in winter gloop. Best tyres ever made. At a given price point you can fill your boots with superlight world class 26″ wheelsets.

Really, if 29er’s came first, they’d be touting 26er’s as the next thing telling you they turn so fast, accelerate so well, nimble, you can make them in girl sizes, no tow overlaps, space for fat tyres…

Sure, they’re using old stock up…but it’s still a great honest bike. You could have alot of reliable fun on that steel Inbred for a good long while wether it’s day rides, epics or racked for a transcontinental.

    Son of Brian.

You can take 26″ wheels, triples and cup and cone hubs from my cold dead hands…

Thanks, just checked what I have been riding, and it’s 32:20 knew it was low but makes it very easy for me. Probably stay with 32:20 then and see how I go.(I am very old!)

Such a nice looking frame set. Classy I would say.
Straightliner, could I ask what hearing you went for? Have finally made my mind up to go for SS for my Rooster, and wondered about adjustment from 29 2.4″ tyres to 29+ tyres.

The geometry of the Fargo is somewhat different than the other bikes. The reach and stack are fairly unique. Short top tube and high stack. as an older guy I really need those features. Everything else is too long and too low for my old back and neck.

So I would advise concentrating on the frame geometry, then other needs such as tyre width.

Sam, would be great if you can just confirm headset numbers from Hope. Using Hope now and have never used such a good headset before.

Looking at the geometries, the Rooster seems to sit nicely between the Krampus and the ECR, so have remained happy with my choice of Rooster even with the wait.

I have a rather special birthday coming up in late August, money is sent to me for doing absolutely nothing, what a wonderful concept, and to top it all it looks like I am going to have a special birthday present as well. How good is that for your 65th birthday, a new super duper 29+ Rooster!

    Review here http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/clothing/t-shirts/product/review-altura-mayhem-bamboo-whoosh-t-shirt-13-47389/

Gives the shirt a good review. Ordered three to get over the £20 minimum for free delivery.

Price starts low, but when address added VAT is added for UK delivery, so jumps a bit. 3 tees for just under £27 not too bad. £9 each delivered.

    Thanks for posting.

I have found good 29ers set up SS go quite cheaply on eBay. You get a good frame, sometimes even a very good fork as I did, and a good spec of bits. Can be worth far more than the whole bike costs. Ride it SS, see how you like it and add gears if you want, upgrade the wheels as the sales turn up with great offers. It worked for me.

Just received an update from Sam. Frames are leaving Taiwan this week. Did think that they could not be here by end May if no notice of shipping had been sent.

To be honest I am just glad Sam has managed to work through this and that it does look like a frame will arrive at my home before too long.

If anyone knows where there is a 2014 Ti medium please let me know. I adore my Bom Pop Blue 2014 steel medium Fargo. Ran SS all winter and now 1×10. Had a number of Ti bikes and they are a bit special, so one day will hopefully build a Ti Fargo with Rohloff even!

Got wheels, cranks, stem, bars, brake levers, seat pin, saddle, chain, pedals.
Just bb7’s, gear cables, bar wrap, tyres.
    Oooo. Nice cheap fun bike.

That’s really nice stumpy_m4. I have just enjoyed SS all winter and just swapped to gears and new wheels for the summer on my 29er, so have a spare set of SS suitable wheels as long as frame takes 135mm. Could you confirm which it is please?

Looks like a road groupset on the built bike, so may indicate 130mm rear? Anyone confirm. PlanetX/On One are crazy in the lack of technical details they include on their web site, after all most people are having to buy without actually trying the frame. Needs accurate reach and stack as well as frame hub widths.
Looks like large if flat bar and medium with drops at 5’10”.

At 5’10” I am either medium or large. Does the frame come up small, quite short seat tube, stand over of large is same as my medium Fargo. Large has good stack for me. Anybody 5’10” with one?

Have to say, I am shocked and surprised at the £1400 frame only price. I had thought people were ordering one offs for around £600 direct so a batch production should be cheaper for Stooge to buy, then their mark up and import taxes are going to lift it, but £1400?

I thought Pact were dear at £1000.

If you need a large, I have an “as new” Large Fargo I am about to sell. Love the bike but needed a medium, and now ride that every day and love it. It’s a cream 2012, yours for £800 no haggling.

I have one and the tubes of the stand are open, so when the bike is on the stand the tubes cut down through the stand rubbers. Fairly quickly cutting all the way through. This shortens the stand length and makes it more likely to topple over. Need new rubbers with a coin inside so the tubes do not cut through the rubber again. Not found rubbers that fit though. Usually walking stick rubbers too big.

Try and work this through. Far East bikes are paid for in $ I would imagine. Euro falls against the $ so Canyon prices have gone up quite a lot. Instead if them paying $1000 they are paying $1150 as an example.

So bike arrives in Germany and it has cost a lot more than it should have.

£ and $ are the same as before. So in theory bike going direct from Far East to UK should still cost same and not be cheaper.

If they sell at new £/€ exchange rate they loose another 15% or so.

Said earlier that cross curry trading is a nightmare. Here they are double cross currency trading.

No wonder thay have made a bad decision. Probably only one they could make. It resists sales and reduces double loss. They write the UK market off.

This forum is now completely unusable for me on my iPad. The watch advert is ridiculous. Could a site admin say if this is to continue or not. It does not happen on my laptop, which is old and slow, so Impresume the administrators do not actually want this horrible advertising to be happening. So a technical solution needs putting in place for iPads pleae.

If this is not to be done, simply will stop visiting the site. Shame really, I enjoy the banter.
