    @Cougar

    I inherited my bosses Granada Scorpio 4×4 2.9 Sportback about 30 yrs ago (G866 WTY). Best car I’ve ever had. Gave it to my dad after about 12yrs and he siliconed the sunroof closed ‘cos he couldn’t fix the leak.

    What about, for those saying you don’t need one, everyone who has one just pulls it out for a couple of days. Then post on here how you got on?

    Well, once again this amazing forum hits the spot. As part of moving in to our new gaff I’ve just had an electrical contractor in to fit a wall mounted tvv and two sockets to the lounge chimney breast. Our first smart TV. While fannying about setting it up…I realised they hadn’t fitted an aerial socket. Loads of apps, really impressive, but no free to view live channels. Not such a problem for me but a disaster for my wife. She wants her local news and TV guide back. The kids just say it’s the new way  but that won’t wash. So I may try a small indoor aerial tucked behind the TV before I get the contractors back to drill yet more holes.

    Thanks everyone, it’s good to see solutions. I’ll investigate some of the suggestions.

    Pocket doors. Genius things!

    Yeah, they all have have double glazed patio type doors separating them from the house. With the doors closed obviously you don’t hear rain or background noise, but it’s a shame not to comfortably use the extra space as part of the house just because it’s raining.

    ? I am considering knocking it down as suggested. Seems a shame as it’s in great nick with quality blinds. Big question mark against whether the foundations are beefy enough to take the weight of a solid roof  so I’m asking whether there are decent light weight alternatives to polycarbonate. Temperatures seem fine in the time we’ve been here, there are plenty of windows for ventilation and the odd chilly morning we’ve had hasn’t made it feel cold. It seems the good money has been spent on everything but the roof (most important part).

    This place is just incredible. I’ve just had the opposite problem, stat lost connection with the receiver. Took out the stat batteries, popped ’em back in et voila! Talking to each other again. Your side of the problem is Internet and hub to app. Just bin the app, the thermostat is clever enough to look after stuff. 3rd world problems phoning your boiler. Don’t sweat it.

    And once again I’ve deleted a post. I get where he’s coming from.

    Down market compared to all the above  fair enough they may not last as long, but Mountain Life do a range of trail shoes with a particular in-sole construction  (can’t remember the term they use) but the arch support is sublime . May or may not be of any use to you  but worth a look?

    I’m under possibly the best technicians in the world, RVI Newcastle. I have an appointment with the Pediatric surgeon next week, but I’m under no illusion that the kids come first. And so it should be.

    Sorry, I’m responding to this during ad breaks in F1, it deserves more attention. Back later.

    Should have added, if I focus on the 2nd image, the one generated by my weaker eye, I can see that perfectly and with more colour. Imagine looking at a TV in the middle of a wall (dominant eye image) then focusing on the 2nd image. This would be towards the top right corner of the wall and on a slight downward tilt. However…with a patch, I can drive; medically endorsed and dvla approved. Plus with absolute confidence. Depth perception took a while to adjust  but the brain is astonishing.

    Make yourself go slightly cross eyed….that’s roughly what it’s like all the time (for those unaffected).

    @timidwheeler thank you for the reassurance and good wishes.

    @kormoran
    mine is a second “ghost image” upwards to the right  often overlaid. I’ve learned to more or less ignore the 2nd image, but it’s always there. Looking down is a challenge   I often step off curbs without seeing them, that’s a jolt. Walking or cycling under low branches is a bugger, as is hitting my head off head height cupboards etc.

    Thing is with me, both eyes “work” fine individually, just not together. Apparently I have scar tissue from the Graves in my eye muscles, excessively so in one of them. So  they’ll pop ’em out, cut away the scar tissue and that should allow them to work in tandem again. Can’t wait…

    I ended up with one after hyper-thyroidism, Graves eye disease. I’ve got double vision with it, awaiting an op. T’is shit, I have to wear an eye patch to see straight.

    I’ve restrained from posting on these political threads up to now, but oh how I wish I’d had the time to compose and post as eloquently as @solarider above.

    IME Laurel is just as bad. It needs more care to keep it looking right; pruning rather than trimming with hedge cutters and it’s just as vigorous. It can end up looking very thin at the base if you’re not careful. Blackbirds and Thrushes like it for cover and nesting but it doesn’t provide much for the environment. IMHO of course.

    Dial Direct for me. Non conversion Renault Traffic  9yrs NCD, 3pts for an SP30. £370. SDP only, 7k pa. 3rd year with them, seem like nice people. They did try their hand for £450 this year and auto renewal  but a quick “Oi!” phone call calmed them down.

    For balance, look at the parallels between Yousaf/SNP and Klopp/LFC and the way social media has reacted. This thread is a microcosm of that. The only difference is the posters on here kinda “know” each other, so are maybe pulling their punches a bit. It’s in human’s nature to revel in a good downfall. It’s tribalism. Outsiders don’t care about the detail, just the headline. Funny, if not many care about Scottish politics, this thread is currently TOTP on here.

    Dogs and fags stink just the same. We’ve been househunting lately, and jeez, you can tell a dog lives there the second they open the door.

    As @tomparkin said. Recently bought a £15k vehicle from a local dealer. Left a 10% deposit and he said it’ll be ready in a week. Rang me 4 days later and said it’s ready. 12 months mot ( which I expected), 4 new tyres (which I didn’t) and a full service with some warrantable parts. They’re not all crooks. Border City Autos Carlisle fwiw.
