I’ve got adidas evil eye with optical insert. Ok but do steam upon damp days might be an issue with all RX types tho.

They have certainly lost their edge. No doubt when it does arrive my seatpost shim ordered Wednesday will come in an A4 cardboard box!

I’ve just sold a Lynskey ti frame for £600 just didn’t like it. A mk1 steel PA felt just so much nicer at a tenth of the price. Who’d have thunk it. The PA – solid, softer more compliant ride, better tracking IMO. The Ti456 felt skittery and nervous, and a much harsher ride. Just my view on what works for me.

Merocaine lozenges properly anesthitizes throat IMO worked for me. Is more pain relief than cure tho.

Have you ever seen a cross-section through a steel or aluminium frame. I’ve seen chain-stays no thicker than a coke can.

I’m probably better off not knowing :o)

90 down to 50 can feel really quite different and change handling of bike (steering can wander on climbs) so is worth getting a test first. Any mates can lend you a 50 to try 1st?
I run 50 on my hard tail and suits it nice.

Depends on hub flange size etc. I reused spokes from a hope pro2 onto deore as spoke size was same. Check dtswiss spoke calculator site. You can work out if spoke size same for both hubs, or close enough (1 or 2mm makes little difference IMO).

Panasonic tz series. I’ve got a tz3 pretty decent burst mode for bike shots. You’ll get a more recent model for £100 though (2nd hand). Dpreview.com a good site for reviews.

I’ve cut hose and just taken lever reservoir cover off and pumped lever a few times. Worked fine didn’t need full bleed.

First rattle along my usual local ST, and all is well :-) wheel still true. Must sort out dish tho rim far too near one stay. Learn from experience I guess.

Here’s hoping would be happy with a few months. Not sure tension feels even all round but hopefully not much in it. Built from a rim and spokes had lying around, and a 2nd hand Shimano hub. For thw winter bike so only big cost been my time. Thursday night test run I think. Will be well chuffed if come home with wheel still looking true.

Tollie (wrong spelling) path is a nice semi gnarr loop from loch maree. Bit of St, bit of tar, big rocky descent (which is fairly techy in bits) Probably fs steed of choice due to techy descent. Cracking scenery. Might have a gps thing of it somewhere.

Bike + A82 = certain death. Stick to the back road south side. Far too many buses and lorries on a very narrow twisty road.

Look at north wave stuff too. Forget what model mine are but 2 years on still going strong. Vibram soles good grip on them for walking.

But the muckynutz thing can get bent and look naff. I mangled mine when thru bike into boot with front wheel off. I’d go for the neoguard.

Got a rev race uturn maxle 120-150 on my ex9. Runs nice tend to just leave it at 130 on all but steepest descents. I’d probably prefer something adjustable 100-140 TBH as down at 120 front end can still wander on climbs.

Yes, usually can cover hole with thumb while pumping with other hand (ooh er). Only once has piston been so seized I’ve needed the GF to pump while I use both thumbs to press down on the hole (woof).

I looked very seriously at the Samsung galaxy tab as it was about £250 compared to £400 for ipad2. But reviews were split on it, and TBH it just felt too small in the hand. Id mainly use at home so wanted something with a decent sized screen. Might be worth a look as some good deals on the go, if portability important.

Any other big brand tablets e.g motorola or dell, were coming in at same price or more than IPAD and just seemed a lot of money for a product that probably wasn’t as slick as the ipad.

So recently ordered an ipad 2. The lack of flash will no doubt p1ss me off but right now I don’t see a decent alternative out there. Sony have some new tablets coming out this autumn but I didnt want to wait.

My technique – split the caliper, use a shock pump with a marzocchi adapter (its fits quite neatly into caliper holes). And pump til the piston pops out. On one side of the caliper you’ll need to cover one hole with your thumb or air will escape.

THE BIG HEALTH & SAFETY WARNING – make sure the caliper and piston is pointed away from you and ideally have it inside a shopping bag or similar. It will fly out at some speed and do real damage to anything (or anyone) in its way. My kitchen cupboard door still has scars from an impact! I’ve done it this way penty of times.

Good pics, I’m getting dejavu, we just finished it Saturday there. Similar weather to you by looks of it, did in other direction tho. Wind at our backs most days so probably right call for us.

Not so many pics as tbh with the rain and wind mostly it was head down and keep going. Agree with the Inversnaid hike a bike comment, it was a bit of a trek.

Not sure I’d want to do the whole thing again but some buts were ace and worth doing again. Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven gave us some great descents. Despite the hike a bike there were parts of the Loch Lomond riding that were real nice, just a bit stop start.

Kinlochleven to Fort Wm was probably the hardest bit.

Wow, a truly epic C2C, never heard it done before. Ive just done West Highland Way but yours a lot more of a challenge.

You talking about as much off road as possible or looking for a mix of MTB and tarmac to de-epic it a bit?

I guess Braemar, Linn of Dee, Glen feshie could be one part of it.

And Corriarick pass Laggan to Fort Augustus.

And Great Glen Way down to Fort William.

The gaps you’d need to fill in would be Aberdeen to Braemar. Glenfeshie to Laggan. Fort William to Ardnamurchan. Not sure about those.

Others might have different suggestions for ways to tackle it.

    At the very cheap end……

Shimano m445s from rosebikes. £56 posted new excl adapters or rotors. They are below deore in the range but running them on my 29er and run real nice. TBH I prefer the look and lever feel to my £150 SLXs.

Running my 09 with revelation u-turns 120-150. My own build, not super light build but comes in about 29lbs. Probably feels ‘right’ at about 130 but pop it out to 150 for gnarlier stuff.

FWIW I bought the complete bike off here for £600 IIRC. Sold most parts but kept frame and few other bits. Since then seen frames on here for £250 – £300.

EDIT: £1k new sounds nae bad at all, misread that as used price.

I ran 26er 440s and it was perfect. Think 420 would feel very steep. IIRC wanga is designed around 100mm suspension forks which is basically 440 a-c

    Another recommendation for transition.

I’d day it’s an “M” book even though it was Iain Banks. Most accessible of his space shippy stuff ive read. Just don’t ask me to explain what the hell it was about!

Would agree there’s better choices than learnie. Balblair Golspie or laggan if it’s trail centre u want. Learnie would be bottom of my list of choices.
