Thanks everyone, my son was heavily into Oasis also and I tried Don’t Look back in anger but was struggling, so had a look at Live Forever which I’m finding a bit more doable I suppose practice and practice, but realise I’ll need help along the way.

Sadly, I’ve recently inherited 2 of my son’s guitars, an acoustic Epiphone PR-400 which I bought him some 30 years ago and his latest an acoustic Gibson G-45 Studio He was quite accomplished (to me anyway) and I would dearly like to play some of the songs he loved and I loved listening to him play. Using U tube tutorials I have realised the difficulty in this approach and with having only 3 working fingers (left hand little finger has artheritis and creeping to others)  and also being tone deaf. Realisticly at nearly 70 is it too late to invest in lessons? The only local guitarist I knew to ask has moved to France with his bikes. I am revising my expectation of playing, Wish You Were Here and Stairway to Heaven to, She’ll be Coming Round the Mountain.

Just been debating this here, I have a BMW X3 which the 3 year warranty expires next week, it has had a few issues over the last 2 years which have been dealt with by BMW. Gone with the BMW extended warranty, though did consider Warrantywise (was, strangely, recomended by BMW franachised dealer), but reading through their terms and conditions I couldn’t make head nor tail of what was, or was not covered. Fingers crossed I’ve made the right descission.

I don’t often post on here or other social media, but could I ask that some of you re-read the article Excess Baggage in issue 144 and then refer to why Singletrack are offering for sale the cover picture of the forthcoming 147 issue with 50% of the proceeds going to Rider Resilience, then visit the Rider Resilience web page. Also recommended is viewing the video Evolution featuring Andy Mckenna. If you can I would also recommend reading an article in the latest issue of Cranked magazine entitled the Last Ride. If you do you may get some inkling why some of us need an e-bike. When I go to the shed to take out my Orbea Rise, (but am grateful I can) it breaks my heart look at my unused Ibis Ripmo an early 65th birthday present which I loved, rode the Jennride amongst many others for 9 months, until I got an unwanted actual 65th birthday cardiac present.
With all the undercurrent dislike of e-bikes I find myself feeling I have to apologise for needing to use one now and generally being unwelcome to take part in many of the events and social rides I once enjoyed, hopefully with a little kindness, compassion and understanding, this will become a thing of the past and I can take part in many of these events I once enjoyed.

Be careful Mrs B had hers done a few years ago with Optegra, first eye done and laser tweaked perfect. Second eye done and tweaked very painful and blurred vision after very unpleasant meetings with the surgeon it all comes out the technician put a the wrong figure in 3,1 instead of 1,3 in the laser machine her eye is completely bolloxed we took them to court and just about got our money back took ages, the technician returned to Poland, files went missing. The good old NHS has been great in helping but a recent eye test has shown further retina problems and is currently waiting an appointment but it’s not looking good for her. She now wishes she had got some new glasses.

Hi Tony (Kevin from the Jennride) so sorry to hear about this, you seemed to be doing so well the last time I saw you (apart from your mishap down to the Newfield Inn) and looking at some of your long distance adventures. As you know I had a heart attack 18 months ago and was doing well for the first 4/5 months or so, but have had issues since fatigue, feeling sick and vertigo, coming on later in the day, not sure if it maybe AF or something else. In this new world of GP appointments I have had only 1 face to face (last month) and half a dozen or so telephone ones. I did manage to get a cardiac referral last March and hoped to get to the bottom of the issues, but found out last month this had been cancelled. I have now bitten the bullet and have a private cardiac appointment in 2 weeks so hopefully should know more soon.
I really don’t want to get an E-bike and or give up my sailing.

Its really sh*t this getting older.

Sam Houghton is not running this year!

Oh that’s a shame I’ve been looking on the website as its still showing its running and after my MI last year thought the short one would be good one to prepare for, as a full or 70M Jennride is not feasible at the moment, if ever.
Was thinking of coming up with the caravan for a weeks holiday Ashes Lane and seeing the start of the Jennride as I’ve never been part of the mass start, as Tony and I have usually had an early head start. A donation to do a few of the early miles possible ? if it not you can still have the donation, is it just giving.

Mrs B had hers 2 weeks ago she’s a Health visitor doing face to face visits and she’s a vaccinator on her days off, I’m 66 and had heart attack 9 months ago from what I can make out it’ll be mid March at least for mine, must say it’s quite worrying given the current situation

I have to say had I realised how poor the UK agent was I wouldn’t have invested in one and looked for something closer to home. For example the upper linkage bushes are recommended to be checked for UK riding 4 times a year, seems little point when they have not been available for over a year. The actual bushes are available from Igus UK at a cost but should be free lifetime warranty from Ibis, try that one with the UK, if they had any, but my experience is the inserts wear also these are not covered under warranty. Not good to have a 5k bike sat in the shed idle for months. A great shame as it is an awesome bike.

Had my V1 nearly 2 years now and really like it, spares can be difficult to get in UK (check Ibis UK / 2 pure site most items no stock and have been for a good while) though Ibis USA were very helpful, but unfortunately HMRC kept my bushing kit for 4 weeks and I ended up paying £50+ for £24-99 bushes. Factor in keeping a stock of wear items when in stock.

Hi Tony, Kevin here, looks like you have recovered from your mishap down to the Newfield Inn on the last Jennride and my condolences on your recent loss. For myself things went a bit downhill in March this year having a heart attack (luckily just before lockdown), which you’ll know all about being through it yourself. Initially I felt pretty good but for the last few months have been having problems with (hopefully) the meds the old “cure is worse than the disease” so have good days and bad ones, but I’m still getting out on the bike just need to learn to listen to my body and go steady. It hasn’t helped with the lockdowns as at times I’ve felt a little abandoned as I’ve only had 2 phone appointments with cardiac team, hospitals in my experience have not been open for business as usual, but then remind myself we are in a pandemic and I’m a lot better off than a lot. Whilst I hope, I doubt I’ll be joining you on another Jennride any time soon. Anyhow you and all of the STW guys and gals keep safe and well and I’ve decided at end of the month I’m not altering my clocks as who wants an extra hour of 2020.

I had your symptoms 11 weeks ago and like you put it down to a chest infection went to GP 4 days later when the chest pain really became a Pain I was given an ECG, then it as blue lights to hospital, all the advice was, I should have rung 999 and if I have anymore symptoms do the same as the ambulance has ECG facilities and they will assess if it is a heart issue, please do it now and not later like I did.

Oh dear wish I hadn’t given up my place due to recent health problems, as I’m making good progress it would have been a good goal to aim for next year, as I’m assuming with carrying entries over to 2021 there’ll be no places available.

Many thanks for the kind wishes, a couple of positives due to my level of fitness my start point for recovery is higher than usual and there was no serious injury to heart itself. Entries for the Jennride and Sam houghton will be available later today.

Interesting this I had a heart attack yesterday and had 3 stents installed, I’ve been sent home today with a fistful of pills and a cardiac rehabilitation programme, the doctors seem pretty confident I will get back to biking but need to be realistic no more chasing strava trophies but at 65 that dream is long gone still it seems a long way off yet

Hi Tony when are you thinking of going I wouldn’t mind catching up with a pint or so in Hebden as I was only on orange during the Jennride watching you enviously downing a pint or two in the Church Inn Torver

4 pots came with my new bike (6 months ago) went through all the above new pads sintered resin, Uber Shimano, new rotors but still screeched like a banshee wet or dry all that solved it was changing to Hope. Bike shop sent the 4 pots back to Madison which were replaced and I now have a brand new set which I’m reluctant to use and even more reluctant to sell. To note I have not had this with any previous Shimano brakes just the wandering bite point

Good on you Tony, I questioned doing another one I felt a bit broken Monday and today as it takes a bit longer to recover mid sixties but enjoyed the 2 days and especially for such good causes, but as you say shit to that. (Kevin from the Church in Torver) and well done Rich another successful Jennride

The bivi bag is an Alpkit Hunka and the mat is Alpkit Aero 180 and the tarp is Alpkit 3.5, the tent is an OEX Phoxx 1 which weighs in at 1.5Kg and takes 5 mins to erect, it has its own ground sheet so no bivi bag to take. I am leaning to just the tarp and bivi (and sleeping bag) given the forecast. Thanks for the input.

I have the availability of a light single tent, tarp, bivi bag, sleeping bag and mat, given the forecast would it make sense just to take and use the bivi and sleeping bag. I plan to overnight somewhere on the down hill side of walna scar. A bit of guidance from the more experienced please.
