That Russian/Ukranian polevaulter (Bubka?) a few years admitted he only raised the pole vault world record by 1cm at a time because he got paid $1m each time he broke it!

Hold the shift key down when you launch iTunes – it’ll give you the option to create a new account – that way you can keep everything seperate if you want.

Anyone seen a square watch (in a kinda Bell and Ross stylee)? Quite fancy a nice-ish simple square one for a change?

Didn’t the gun lobby (or Mr Heston) blame one of the mass shootings on the fact schools allowed long coats to be worn, thus allowing assault rifles to be smuggled in?

What you’ll find with STW over eBay is you’ll start with the eBay top price, and people will start asking for a fiver off, or free postage, or maybe tenner for cash etc. etc. and before you know it you’re not getting the price you were expecting. Then someone will point out some random shop has a 50% off sale and its cheaper there new blah blah.

Some Ebay stuff can go for crazy prices. I bought a bike on, previous years model just for the frame. Sold the bits on eBay, most went for more than you could buy on CRC and the frame ended up costing me nothing.

You pick – eBay, potential better price (marginally offset by fees), sold in a week. STW – better karma.

get yourself down the doctors and have a nice nurse to clean em out for you.

Stick some oil in first – almond oil or something.

Any hard wax and the nurse will just send you straight home telling you to stick some oil in – save yourself a visit.

For £100 I’d go Ultegra over Veloce. That’s a 2nd from top Shimano gruppo against the 5th level Campy. Now if it was Centaur/Athena vs Ultegra….mmmm.

internal flights are pretty cheap – try and work out a little loop hopping between cities.

Dependas whats on your list of must haves – LA, San Fran, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas is a pretty nice little weeks worth of trvaelling. Stayed over at the Grand Canyon, ’twas beautiful. LA is a bit mheh so wouldn’t be fussed if I never went back.

My current wrapping is working out OK but I was considering looking at adding some gel pads next time just to see if they help a bit more with buzz and numbness…

Try double wrapping – I put some thinner tape on the tops first, then went over it with my normal tape (Bontrager Double Gel – it’s pretty thick anyway).

I found the gel pads were just too bulky.

Assuming you’re still going to be using the middle ring for some riding then I suspect the front mech won’t handle the shift very well.

If you’re gonna be just only on the 52 front, then probably TA will do you a 48t. Never seen a mtb chainring in 50t plus.

As TA rings will probably cost you £50 might be worth considering either a ‘track’ chainset, or finding a trekking one 26/36/48?

    Get a golf (a tenner).

Consider a nice pair of shoes if you want.

Regarding clubs, think about maybe a half set of clubs – you’re not going to be needing to worry about the merits of a 5 irons versus a 6 iron…

And enjoy your time on the course!

when by some measures it’s now the most popular browser?

What measures are you using? IE (8) is still our most popular browser by a decent margin.

Despite the fanbois frothing Macs and iPads are still relatively minor in the browser world (yes, they are getting bigger), and most internet users are probably on Windows XP, either with IE6 (or IE8 if they’ve allowed updates).

Don’t even get me started on CSS3 and having to make IE look exactly the same too despite not supporting it….

I’m sure Cav isn’t daft. He’l have signed up for the Sky team on good wages knowing full well that they were going to try and put Wiggins in yellow. And I’m sure the agreement probably extended to a full lead out train down the cobbles in Paris and full support in the Olympics. He’ll make millions if he wins gold, worth it IMHO for skipping a chance of green this year.

Sagen and Nibali? Well, as Niballi isn’t in yellow then you can’t exactly say their plan has gone 100% either…

Possibly some of the above posters could convict me as being the one who did it…….did any of you work on the Police force that investigated those crimes?

My dad did, I’ll have a word with him….

I suspect they’re gonna catch LA via the backdoor, which is a cunning wheeze but could backfire. Sounds like they’re gonna name and shame sseven people including LA, prove 6 did do some doping/helping doping and thus the implication is LA is guilty. Dangerous tactic that isn’t going to resolve anything unless they nail him on his own with his own results etc. etc.

I didn’t realise that – but it doesn’t help anyone else, and as a small-scale private seller I’m unlikely to encounter the same buyer myself.

It does – their non payment counts towards all their buying. So if someone doesn’t pay someone else, then you can use that information to block them – it doesn’t have to be just repeat buyers from yourself. If everyone blocked people with, say, 2 non-payments, then they might get the message (though a new account soon fixes that issue, alas).

Because he/she will now have a non-payment registered against their account, and if that bothers you so much go into your eBay settings and set it so no-one with a non-payment can bid on your auction items in the future.

They changed it a while ago so sellers couldn’t give bad feedback because certain sellers (like a certain bike shop we won’t mention) was negging buyers who justifiably complained of their shoddy service/products.

Be careful if you start using that c/card for normal transactions after getting the 0% ‘loan’.

The banks are tricky – you put £2000 on the card for the wedding and then after the wedding you bought, say, a new TV on the card for £500.

You use some wedding gift money to pay off the £500 off the bill plus your usual d/debit payment. Jobs a good ‘un?

Nope – in the tiny T&Cs for the card, the bank has used the £500 to pay off your 0% balance first. So now, you’ve only got £1500 on 0%, and £500 attracting 20% interest. And, IIRC, you’ll keep having £500 with interest until you pay off the 0% balance. So easy to run up a fairly big interest charge.

If you can manage the debt seriously, go for it. If you’ve a mind to buy that first flat, new car etc. then have a good think about it. Like people say it’s easy to think it’s money you don’t need to worry about and it’ll count in mortgage applications, other loans etc.

Will the distance regs cover the cost of you sending the bike back?

    breatheeasy

I’d be surprised if you get anything back. It’ll ruin the entire flight selling structure if that’s true, unless TripIt are covering the difference.

see what the score is with a refund and rebook?

Most likely non-refundable flights to stop people doing this all the time…

Shoes tightened up enough? Mistake I used to make, keep the shoes loose to help with this kinda thing, but my feet used to slip forwards in the shoe making them squish against the front just enough. Now I have the front looser still, but the strap near the ankle is always tightened down.

I think bust any one for whom there is a valid sample for any performance enhancing drug now on the list. Regardless of whether it was banned at the time they were engaged in trying to attain an unfair advantage and so are guilty of perverting the rules of fair play.

Nah, too tricky to do and would cause too much litigation I’d imagine. “Sorry, you didn’t win the TdF in 1980 because we’ve decided to ban lucozade this year, but it was perfectly legal when you won.”

Though it does bring up a question to me – when does something become banned? Presumably there are many millions spend every year in all sports to be the best – nutrition, fitness regimes, equipment etc. – when does a cocktail of vitamins every day turn from good to bad?

My old 5 had a strange creak for ages.

Finally tracking it down to the Hope QR, swapped that over to an old Shimano one and it stopped the noise. Problem with the Orange swingarm is it just amplifies everything. Don’t know if there was some grit in the qr/frame interface or just the actual qr creaked a tiny bit – might be worth checking.

Whatever deal you find check out how much two single policies are against a joint one.

Me and the missus have two separate individual policies that were only a couple of quid extra a month compared to a joint one. First one to die covers the house. Second one gives my family money to look after my daughter and keep the house if required.

    Is it consistent? i.e. does song/album ‘A’ always produce crackle, and song/album B doesn’t?

Do you get the crackle when playing them on the computer they were ripped from?

Not a Media Player expert, maybe there is an import setting (like an equaliser) that’s been ramped up too high and the ‘quieter’ albums aren’t hitting the max levels.

Should be able to refund at any point in time.

Only thing I can think of is that now you are in ‘dispute’ there might be an ‘official’ channel to go down for the seller, i.e. he/she has to admit the problem.

Sounds like they are pulling a slightly fast one, though wouldn’t worry, I’d be very shocked if you didn’t get the money back.

Sack the SEO expert! Google doesn’t like it when you try to mask content as it thinks you’re up to something.

Just leave it as it is. Unique, fresh content is much more important than worrying about some duplicate stuff. All sites have duplicate content in some shape or form to some exent (links, footers, headers etc.)

Not what I wanted to hear. The one thing I love about riding my road bike is the lack of fettling I have to do

My 9 speed Campag Veloce is a winter bike that hasn’t been touched in terms of maintenance for a few years now. Ridden in all kinds of weather, never had an issue.

Admittedly the thumb shift down a ring is a bit KER-LUNK but never misses a beat. The newer stuff has a lighter click to the shifters, so much so that I think they went a bit too far a year or two ago and there was a lot of complaints.

Old school Campag Ergo is great because it’s still serviceable, the newer style is throwaway like Shimano and SRAM if it breaks badly. And you get double and triple compatibility in one shifter with the ability to trim the front mech. Newer versions might be ‘better’ but it’ll be a while before I have to worry about that.

Luck of the draw. If you arrive just after another plane then you’re at the back of a very long queue.

I used to often see people pegging it through to the immigration hall thinking they would beat the queues only for the look of utter horror on their face as they spot a full 747s worth of passengers from Schipol or somewhere who arrived 10 minutes earlier.
