I think you lose all protection yourself from paypal if you don’t send to the registered address. Probably not worth it.

Who’s name is the car in? Is it yours to give back or has your other half agreed to give her car back?

Isn;t it Zoopla that lets you ‘amend’ your own house to add random things in like conservatories, new kitchens, extra square feet etc. to pump up the price? Sister in law is having a ball on one of those kinda sites ramping up the ‘value’ of her house to a value she feels happier with even thoough I never reaised she’d had that new 20,000 square feet extension!

Enjoy the mouthful of deicer I got when defrosting the car the first time and the auto rainsensor kicked in the windscreen wipers.

Could never use a bike rack on my old Corsa as everytime you put it in reverse with the front wipers on it tried to do the rear one too…

When I were a poor lad in days gone by I tried stripping and polishing a frame.

Never again I’d gladly pay the £20ish for someone to beadblast it.

BMW have quite a nice idea – on one of their electric schemes you get some points that allow you to borrow a different BMW short term in return for some of your points (bigger car, more points).

So for that romantic weekend away to the wilds of Scotland you can get a fancy petrol or diesel instead.

That might tip the balance for some people. Obviously, those with £25k spare for a car….

Got my reaplcements from Fatbirds a couple of weeks ago.

Alas, no-one made clear that I shouldn’t have sent back the whole brakes (i.e. calipers, mounts, rotors etc.) as they just sent back the replacement calipers (plus some new cables). So Fatbirds had to locate my old pair, take the rotors etc. out and post them back to me.

Think it’d be cheeky to ask for a replacement stainless steel one?

I’d assumed that I needed a bash to tidy things up?

Don’t need one but I think it looks nicer

Will the crank have to come off to fit the middle ring?

Not normally, if you can get to the bolts then the ring should come off over the cranks pedals. Obviously you’ll need three hands to refit (or that might be just my oafishness…)

Will a jump from 32 to 36 cause any issues when shifting between chainrings?

Yes, as it’s got more chainring to throw the chain up and over onto. In practice it’s not really an issue unless you are really picky.

Tyres will make the biggest difference, then the size of wheels after that (and only really because you can get get narrower tyres for roadie size rims).

Are you likely to run out of gears on the commute – i.e. are you just running a 32t front for example? I’d go for 26″ slicks if I was on a real budget or just accept you’re getting fitter by having more drag…

Comprehensive schools, despite their free entitlement to education, don’t seem to be able to prevent producing large numbers of complete and utter tw**s with entitlement complexes, no idea how “working” people live, and a tendency to hate anyone with an superior background or level of education. And that appears to continue throughout life it seems, even long after they leave those places.

Works both ways, like richmars says.

If you’ve ever ridden a roundabout at night and had a car almost T-bone you despite being lit up like a Christmas tree you would understand why he does it.

I think we’ve done this to death in other threads as to why it might not be a good idea to temporarily blind someone in a 2 tonne vehicle.

I read the article on Sunday in the paper.

Clarksons piece basically did the classic “some particlar cyclist did something wrong in my eyes, ergo all cyclists are mad/shouldn’t be on the road.”

Don’t think Vine really covered himself in glory either. His first line went somwhere along the lines of “Every day I strap on a hugely powerful light to my head so I can dazzle motorists”.

We’re only just talking to an architect now, so it seems that any conversations right now with the bank may be too early.

Worth having the conversation. When we did did they asked how much we wanted and we just went “erm, ooh, how about £xx thousand?” and they just said okay without quotes or anything else. Cash sitting in the bank before the architect even put pen to paper.

So, how do I set about financing this during the build – I can’t believe the bank will hand over a load of money and say “off you go”. And I can;t believe a builder will wait until it’s finished to be paid.

Oh, they will if you’ve got good equity. We need to remortagage and we got a separate lump sum for an extension at the same time at the same rate – basically a mini mortgage running in parallel Or secured loanas I think the technical term is!).

Basically as long as what you owe the bank isn’t more than what the house is ‘worth’ at the current moment and they’re happy you can pay it back then I’m sure they’ll love to dicsuss your requirements.

Annoying but it’s not a scam, it’s just people like you say bidding on multiple actions for the same stem/frame/forks/fridge freezer and winning one before yours finishes.

Someone did produce a couple of ti full sus frames as a demo a while ago. Only problem was the machine has a limited working volume so it was made in quarters and not very well attached together.

Perhaps if they 3d printed the tubes then welded them together?

What would happen if the worst should happen?

I’d guess your parents would get everything, then share some out with your sibling and nephews/nieces. If they unfortunately died within 7(?) years then the tax man could come sniffing for their pound of flesh as I ‘think’ any money they shared out would be liable to some kind of tax. Obviously as a complete noob at finances like this I may be making all this up, I’d had a bad day when we did our will with the solicitor and didn’t take in some of subtle points she was trying to make.

Checkout On-One – they had some Vittoria Randonneur Pro II Folding Tyre for £13 a wheel. 32c nomically but come up like a 28c. Using them on my winter training bike and quite impressed.

    From the BBC article:

PC Wallis’s actions had damaged public trust and confidence in the police and in the integrity of his officers, Sir Bernard added.

Wonder if they’re lining him up for a dig at the pension? Is he going to cop for Plebgate and the Duggan case too in terms of ‘public confidence’…

I share your pain brother. I too hanker for those liquorice sticks that were flattened at one end. I found a local market that sold them, which was nice.

Then low and behold, a sweetie man now turns up a work regularly flogging all sorts (see what I did there?!) of old fashioned sweets including liquorice sticks.

Yep, a roundabout near me was the closest I’ve been to shuffling off this mortal coil. Completely open roundabout, no other cars, broad daylight, me dressed in high vis top as I watched the guy enter the roundabout at about 40/50mph about 5 feet in front of me. Thankfully the spidersense kicked in a few seconds before and I assumed he hadn’t seen me and slowed down.

At least he saw me out of the side window of the car judging by the look of shock/horror on his face…

Are you just trying to fix the brake hanger and mudguard mount to the fork crown? I picked up a seat clamp bolt from eBay that was long enough (and in titanium too), though it was a while ago and can’t remember who the seller is.

Failing that, ebay will flog you a pack of 5 A4 stainlesss m6x100mm bolts for £2.60.

No, you’re just freeing up the space on your bars for the remote droper post lever, the front fork lockout lever, the rear shock lever… 😆

I ‘think’ road front mechs have a slightly different throw to mtb ones.

I’m fairly sure the X7 would work with a triple of that size – more of a ‘hybrid’ sized chainset, so should work reasonably.

Had an interesting conversation with my Yodel delivery man a couple of weeks ago.

“Hi there, looks like you’ve left a card saying I was out when you called”

“Yes, I can try to redeliver tomorrow”

“No, I’m out again at work all week. How about Saturday?”

    “Sorry, don’t deliver on Saturday”

“Deliver it later on when the missus gets back from school run?”

“Nope, only do your area at 14:00”

“Can I come and collect it then”

“No, I don’t tell people my address”

“So, erm, exactly when / how am I going to get my parcel?”

“Erm, dunno. Could return it to the sender I suppose”

    And deep breaths…..

Presumably when they mention a mechanical brake system (i.e. BB5 or 7) that presumably they’ll throw in the double tap shifters too?! Doesn’t seem mentioned specifically in their statement but I assume it’d have to be included.

150 Euros refund doesn’t sound a huge amount as compensation for a £350 set of brakes/levers.

surely your case against RM is helped by people like the guy on the previous page who has just sent his “shocks” by RM and the package got through.

Bit like saying your mate was speeding yesterday and got away with it, therefore you should too, officer…

Its not as if the solicitor has paid the full stamp duty ‘out of the goodness of their own heart’. They’d have paid it as part of the move, just like making sure the funds from the sale go to the relevant seller/mortgage provider etc. etc. so they won’t have done you a ‘favour’ by paying it.

Presumably someone with some mathematical skills has double checked the whole transation later on and found the error.

Bet they managed to calculate their own fees correctly….

For handlebars check out the royal mails dimensions for tubes/cylinders. I’ve sent a couple of handlebars this way – just roll some carboard around to form the ‘cylinder’ – doesn’t hve to be perfect.

For rolled and cylinder shaped items, the length of the item plus twice the diameter must not exceed 104cm, with the greatest dimension being no more than 90cm.
