I can’t understand why anyone would choose to have days off work when half the rest of the population is off aswell,

    What, maybe like Christmas?

Amazing – we can all get cars with 450+ bhp but ‘don’t have to use the full beans’ on normal roads but woe betide someone turning up to a trail centre with a 160mm travel bike – suddenly they’re ‘overbiked’ and ridiculed….

Get yourself on eBay and buy some thick acrylic – the guy I used cut it and flame polished the sides for free. Bang a set of sorbothane fet on and you’ve got a decent plinth on the cheap to play about with for you TT/amp etc.

It was a blank (fire) door. We removed the lock from the original door to fit to it. The joiner was unable to measure/cut precisely enough to fit the lock to the incumbent keep.

Cheers tiggs. Keep seems to be metal lined too so don’t think there’s enough overhang to file slot down enough.

God, if they think I’m picky they haven’t met the missus yet in full flow (which they’re about to experience to morrow) 😛

After being to a very good speech yesterday by the Information Commissioners Office yesterday there is also the issue of privacy.

Not a major issue but you should really make it clear to your customers you are using a 3rd aprty to store potentially confidential documents.

Looks like a opaque araldite kind of look to it, liberally smeared (messily) around the outside of a joint. It’s hard so pretty sure it isn’t silicone.

Just left a message informing the boss his team will be doing a proper job this time with no additional cost to myself. Awaiting the response…

My mum used to work in the same tax ofice as thew bass player from the Who, John Entwistle. I’m assuming this was before he became a multi-millionaire rock star.

    My dad knew Tommy Cooper.

I sat next to Sue Pollard on a plane once (and she talked at me for the whole flight, ’twas glad to land!).

And I’ve met one of ELO, Nick Kaminski on a TV show.

Wow, just waiting for Heat magazine to ring me up and do a feature on my celebirty lifestyle!

I had a new set of wheels built by JustRidingAlong with Hope Pro2 evo hubs and they swapped the Shimano freehub for a Campag one free of charge.

Think it might be 10speed only mind.

Next time I’d go for DT hubs – they might be able to do the same deal on the Campy freehub swap if you ask.

Syntace say you need to use plugs for their bars to stop them crushing – like these – suppose it just depends on the internal diameter of your current bars.

    c) Sign up for a 5k in about 8 weeks’ time to give you a bit of an incentive to keep at it.

Oh hells teeth, in 8 weeks I’d be expecting the call from the Olympic committee saying Mo Farrah isn’t available, do you want to run the marathon for Team GB.

Yeah, surely you’d assume the BCD of 110mm and just measure from the entre of one chainring hole to the inner edge of the chainring and you’d get the figure to take off the 110mm (twice this value obviously 😛 )

Once the mortgage is in place I would aggressively pay the credit card off.

Ha! Never bought a house before have you?! 😆

Couple of years ago now for our remortgage (and bearing in mind it was for 50% of value of house) we got sat down for a good hour or two going through everything on our bank statements, literally down to how much we spend on a Firday night (err, nothing mate, got kids…).

Looking for a cassette bigger than 32t? The 105 11-speed stuff has a rear mech and cassette thats goes up to that without mixing and matching.

Definitely not roadie stuff! Shoes are hard enough to walk in on a road, let alone mud!

Ebay’s big advantage is it opens up a huge buyer base, however it comes at a cost, but that cost is still alot cheaper than if you had to pay someone to build/maintain a website.

    ^^^ This, mainly I’d guess.

Plus maybe people feel safer paying via a well know site, rather than giving your credit card details to any random site someone in Russia has set up.

What you need to do (as opposed to my wife) think “Is it worth it for £179.99” rather than “oh my gosh, oh my gosh, it’s 50% off, I’ll have one, no two, no three. What a saving!”

    Always works for me.

Well happy with my Khamsin CX wheels. Was using them on my kinda nice best-ish Sunday bike but they’ve done a fair few commutes now without complaint.

The rim tape looked a bit plasticky so I replaced with some other decent Schwalbe stuff but sure it would have been fine, just had some lying around as a replacement.

Anyone got an oppinion on them, really noticable when you see people wearing them, but how do they rate as a watrproof cuycling jacket?

Similar experience to cyclistm – the fit was so baggy that I was banginng my legs off the jacket everytime I pedals, it got really annoying. Pretty waterproof though, give it its dues.

Just picked up a Karrimor reflective rucksack from Sports Direct for £16 which is completely made of reflective material – worrying about the jacket being visible has now become slightly less of an issue when I’ll be wearing that (yes, I know front visbility etc. etc) plus my new jacket.

has mentioned that our board needs updating to comply with regs on RCDs

Has he mentioned that board can’t be replaced without rewiring yet?!

Fair chance you’ve been fobbed off, they’re all having a laugh about “those ‘king stupid cyclists, get what they deserve over” their lunch.

But not much else you can do unless you want to go through the written complaint approach.

Should retail at 12.5 k so I will have a bit of equity in the car as opposed to nothing If I lease

Retail price is a lot different to trade in price. Are you sure you’d have that kind of equity?

To me that policy reads “insure your own car and you’ll be protected for another car you drive (like your parents one)”.

I’d say they were more devoid of ideas at the moment.

where did the UKIP votes come from?

I’d guess they’ll be a few non-voters in Labour strongholds (Cons strongholds are available too…) that don’t bother voting because Labour could nominate a donkey (some say they do that a lot…) and it would get elected. Now if UKIP get a bit more of a roll on, then they become a viable alternative – people may come out and vote if they think UKIP might get close to winning. Thats the danger to both Lab and Cons.

This is Labour STW’s problem – a belief that only their point of view, experiences, expectations and wants are valid and the demonisation of any who dare to disagree with them.

    Fixed that for you.

But I agree with Cranberry, and I’m in a similar situation to him/her as well.

Lots of disillusioned people out there (judging by the benefits by the seaside programme on C5 last night) that would never dream of voting Cons but are starting to like the cut of the UKIP jib. Some of the Labour voters I’ve come across are so right wing it’s scary but they could never bring themselves to vote Cons, well no they’ve got an alternative.

Labour should be concerned. In fact all of us us regardless of political persuasion should be concerned.

I got a really good Polaris jacket last year that I’m really happy with – its got a clear (sealed) pocket in the back that you can put an LED into, which I thought was a good idea.

Waterproof, seems pretty long too (being a lanky git, thats a bonus) so soggy bottom can be avoided (but I’m using guards so not as much of an issue) .

It’s the next airline business model – worry you then you’ll pay money for seats together!

Last time we did a cheapie to visit the sister-in-law sounded like a few people were asked if they’d like to move when it came to checkin to accomodate people with kids.

Plus, not all non-car journies are quite as ‘good’ as the one mentioned by the OP.

I normally ride in, always the best option. If I need the car it’d be 15mins journey. Bus would consist of 10 mins to busstop, two buses (20 mins each) with a ten min walk in between them (unless I got a third bus…) plus waiting time.

If you ‘need’/pay for a car anywaythen like people say, the car is ‘free’

I’m sure plenty of people have thought about this, but I wonder why, when manufacturing etc has adopted innovative shift patterns, office based working persists with a 9-5 culture and struggles to adopt flexible working on a wholesale basis.

Manufacturing, by definition produces something, be it chainrings, televisions, cars etc. – often beneficial to have the machines running 24/7 with crazy shifts, you’re just lumping out units of stuff (no offence to anyone in manufacturing).

In an office environment you’re often needing to talk to/coordinate with other people so a more standard set of hours is beneficial. It’s starting to get crazy at our place – ‘A’ doesn’t work Mondays, ‘B’ doesn’t do Wed afternoons or Friday mornings, half rock in at 10, the other half leave at four, plus half the staff are on India working hours – actually arranging a meeting for more than a couple of people starts getting tricky.
