Would have to be a big benefit over wired brakes otherwise you’re just carting a big battery around to do the thing you do anyway.

Missus is obsessed with it. Completely researching the period on t’interweb between episodes. Suppose it beats looking for shoes anyway.

Yeah, was given some good advice once – if you’re not sitting in an emergency exit row then count the number of seats you need to climb over to get to it.

Seesm sad to think that if you ever have an accident/problem these days anywhere you’re more likely to get people filming it than coming to your aid.

I suppose what I’m saying is- introducing new (potential) standards isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I wish some manufacturers would spend a bit longer thinking about if they really need to do it.

I suspect manufacturers think it won’t look good if they just use a competitors axle width/BCD/widget. Its the N+1 scenario in action – 142 was good ergo 148 must be betterer. Doubt Shimano would use a SRAM ‘standard’ and vice versa.

Which is exactly my point, a quick you tube search unearths all sorts of cockwombles who are doing exactly that, ie ignoring the car. This is the problem, people blindly believing that it works because, well why would Tesla allow me to use something that’s called “autopilot” but then expect me to still pay attention.

Didn’t somebody successfully sue Winnebago a few years ago because they didn’t make it clear in the manual that turning cruise control on in their van didn’t mean you could wander into the back to make a cup of coffee and (funnily enough) it crashed?

I’ve got a Denon Piccolo (previous version with the iPod dock). It’s great. I had some Sonos kit a while ago so vaguely know the sound quality and the Denon seems a lot better. Think the fact you don’t have to spend a fair wedge to get stereo makes it the better option for me.

Obviously not as neat as you need receiver and speakers but that helps with flexibility, plus I can just drop the iPod onto it.

You would need a new crank, front mech, shifter and associated cables etc.

Don’t think you strictly need a new cable as it’ll be the correct length for either a double or triple mech.

But in reality it’s probably worth doing…

Yes, cutting down expenditure – just been made redundant and the couple of jobs I had just about lined up have suddenly been withdrawn due to ‘uncertainty’.

Someone on ebay was selling new Shimano 105 5750 and Tiagra 4650 cranks only at a decent price. Think the 105s were 45 quid.

Might be worth it it you’re just going to bang your own chainring on the crank anyway.

Would that not imply that the Treaty itself isn’t valid and thus we could just walk away from it anyway? If they are arguing that a section of a treaty is valid because the treaty isn’t valid then doesn’t that just negate the whole thing?

they have not bit the westminster elite they have punched themself in the face and they are too stupid to realise this

Maybe they have. BoJo is probably doomed as a PM. Corbyn isn’t looking too clever. Cameron gone. Osbourne too maybe. Nobody coming out of this smelling of roses in the commons.

I take it from the violent backtracking of BoJo that he bet heavily on Brexit actually not being voted for, but as he campaigned for them he could be a unifier in the Cons party with the line of “well lads, I wanted out but democracy ruled and the remain have it” thus winning over both sides of the party. Rock up to No 10 with keys in hand. Job done.

Boris will stay. Too many in the Conservative party will support him for any falling on sword moments.

    Not sure about Gove.

I have noticed over the years of commuting by bike that the default at a junction appears to have gone from an acceptable ‘stop at junction and then check’ to ‘keep going and slam brakes on if any bike/car happens to be in the way’.

Still standard have obviously dropped – tricky to do much with a car with a skinny latte in one hand and your iPhone in the other…

They told us last week that 50% are being made redundant so productivity is so far down this week watching the match in the canteen wouldn’t make a dent in said productivity. Were allowed at ‘managers discretion’ though he took that as ‘allowing manager to live’ and said yes.

Also depends on the size of the car.

Just for reference this is what the local detailer told us when we queried the new car being polished:

Our most popular option on new cars is the Gtechniq coatings, the
coatings provide a far more durable and easier to maintain finish than
any traditional waxes and polishes, and are in a different league to any dealer offered coatings such as Gard X and Lifeshine.

Probably the best option for you on the gtechniq would be the 5 yr C1
Crystal Lacquer option. This on your car would cost you £300+vat. The
protection os applied to all exterior paint, wheels, glass and trim,
with interior plastics, leather and fabrics also being treated. The C1
comes with a 5 yr guarantee and is one of our most popular packages.

A pal was refiiting a crem a while ago and reckoned there wasn’t any guarentee the ashes would be whoever you’ve just cremated anyway – don’t know if thats true or not but hopefully everything useful will be out and given away before that anyway.

Part of me thinks, good service.
Another part of me thinks two main parts which are out of tolerance caused an issue that shouldn’t exist.

Certainly a bit of this. Their service/warranty is very good – I’ve had to use it many times which does worry me slightly. Too many cracked wheel flanges and an exploded freehub amongst others have put me off somewhat.

There was an article I stumbled across detailed how someone had took the rear cage from a certain LX Trekking mech and it fitted onto a 11-speed Shimano rear mech perfectly and enabled up to 34 or 36 at rear, though I think any issue with that is a complete lack of suitable cassettes unless you go for an expensive IRD version.

Middleburn do a 94bcd 11 speed chainset which is a little spendy.

The 10 speed triple shouldn’t be an issue but the chainline of the iner might be a bit extreme but if you’re just using as a bail out gear I suppose you’d be using it at the larger end of the cassette anyway.

Theres always something like the Spa chainsets that are cheap, but they are square taper if thats an issue to you but on the bright side playing around with bb axle lengths means a good chainline.

If you’re running 11 speed shifters then its probably lack of bigger range cassettes that’ll stop anything happening at the back – I’d probably go for a smaller double (or franken-triple) at front.

Don’t forget mtb double will be running on a 73mm bb spacing (obviously with spacers for a 68mm shell) so not sure if chainline would be okay.

Definitely worth doing for an overnight flight if you can get a fold flat bed, and its a decent length flight.

    With absolute logic:

If the scenario is that she heard a chime when she walked in the door she couldn’t have heard another chime half an hour later (note: not ‘about’ half an hour later) – for the clock to chime 12 times it must have taken a while and thus the time difference could only have been something like 29 minutes and 30 seconds, not the definitive 30 minutes stated in the question.

    So its unsolvable.

    I claim my chocolate digestive.

Final payment has come down by £100 too. I thought a DSG equipped car would be worth more than £100 extra after 3.5 years but there you go.

Don’t think (rightly or wrongly) that autos are as popular in smaller cars and people won’t pay the extra for them so their value doesn’t hold as well as a manual.

Worth the extra £1500 over the period of the loan?

On a quantum level could you argue that you were both there and not there at the same time, as a defence to your speeding?

We’ve got some road widening controlled by some average speed cameras.

The poor Merc driver beside me yesterday got his calculations badly wrong when he forgot he wasn’t at the last set of cameras, but the second last when he gunned it. I don’t think slamming on the brakes right beside the last set was going to make much difference to his rather large average speed…

Is there an 11-36 11 speed cassette for road hubs – would the current 11 speed mtb ones fit – I’m a bit vague on their compatibility…

If you don’t want to bother with a spreadsheet for the small ‘cash’ item, how about opening another current account as a Pocket money account?

Pay all the known bills etc. from the main account and do a monthly standing order across to your ‘cash’ account. Then you’ll know the bills are okay and maybe a better understanding of the more wasteful things.

This sort of position is fine on a road bike and no doubt makes a fair bit of differece. Dont think it’s possible on an MTB

Thats assuming you can actually hold that position on a road bike for hours on end. I’m not the most flexible and I have to hang my head in shame and say my road position is awful.

If you’ve not really ridden a road bike I’d say stick with the slicked-up whippet, or try the road bike beforehand. Over longer rides comfort (and possibly lower gearing!) might be a better bet than some notional benefit you can only sustain for an hour.

I think the main benefit from the road bike might be the varying hand positions on the bars.

Is it part of your house insurance discount?
Do you have neighbours to upset if it goes off unnecessarily?
Ours costs about £70 for an annual service, which keeps the insurance discount going and has included a new sensor and a couple of new batteries over the years, arguably an expensive total, but low enough per year

Have you checked how much actual ‘discount’ you’re getting for the alarm? Ours was a princely £11 saving a year, plus we had to have to armed every night when we went to bed. Wasn’t worth the £70+ servicing in that respect.

Stick both lots in a stcks and shares ISA under your name. Then you can control when they get the benefit, hopefully when they’ve kicked the coke and hookers habit.

Oh, and update your will to say they get it on your death, just in case…

In our estate the smaller 2-bed bungalows are going for more money than the 3-bed houses.

Take a frank look at the design – is it really a convenient design to get the additional bedroom? If not then I think you’d put people off. Easy to convince yourself that you’d be, say, happy walking through someones bedroom to access the stairs (or something daft like that).

We’re having a guy round to do our loft plans next week. He’s £750, £200 for the structural calcs and then council fees on top.

I think that’ll be where he’s cheap – the structural calcs are probably not included – worth checking.

To be fair, if he’s done a number of similar extensions it’ll almost be a freebie for him – ours even managed to leave anothers address details on the plans when he printed them out for us!

It isn’t a ‘freedom’, it’s a privilege enjoyed only by people involved in the filming of that scene, which I imagine took a lot of negotiating and planning to make happen. I’m pretty sure that if Joe Bloggs rocked up in his Citroen Saxo and started tearing about the place, he’d quickly be given a stern talking to. Or maybe shot.

The thing is they couldn’t just roll up and juat start filming this. There’d have been weeks/months of written in triplicate documents to various governmental/police/H&S offices so someone somewhere in a high place decided it was okay to do.

Nice bit of free publicity to get the old Top Gear viewers salivating. Certainly now Chris Evans has been told off for flogging his Channel Four show too much on Radio 2. Suppose that only leave BBC News to have a 30 minute ‘interview’/preview to promote it now.

I’m not religious but choosing an extinct animal that lots of Christians struggle to fit into a creationist ideology to represent rebirth and new life associated with the death of the son of a deity seems a bit odd?

Presumably if you are a practicing Jedi you’d be okay with their Darth Vader easter egg?

MrsDummy is very accepting of the semi-annual new bike. I have to squeeze the toothpaste from the middle and send pictures of my penis to random women to get a frisson of naughtiness.

I just leave the toilet seat up a few times. In the ensuing stoney cold silence she cannot complain about the large cardboard boxes that suddenly appear

Funny that trying to pre-empt and spin a media sh*t storm is hailed as a courageous act

At least Pat Cash is telling it like it is on 5 live. Also another pretty good summary from the beeb.

Naively I took the press conference on face value at first and almost gave her the benefit of the doubt – that beeb article certainly raises enough points to change my mind completely.

Maybe the Russian doctors didn’t get the email saying it was now a banned substance as they were all struck off the list? 😉
