I bought a 2013 frameset without cranks and then bought the BB30 CX1 crankset. From reading about it seems I need a PF30 spacer kit so I can remove the step down spacers and it should all fit!!

Also; where did you buy the Effeto Carogna tape from? An online store?

Must be tubs as wheelset is already bought. Think I’ll go for the Grifo and seals the walls anyway as not so much extra effort. Thanks for all the replies.

    Thanks again.

So would you still need to treat the sidewalls on the Challenge Grifo?

Thanks for the replies; to answer the question I’m more a part time racer than an every weekender. With small kids racing fits around the family schedule but that doesn’t mean I don’t like riding decent kit. Think the cool factor of the Dugast might be swaying me but what you all write is more reality.

I’m really liking the tan sidewall look, are there any choices with low tpi that may last better or should I stick to the black fully vulcanised type?

Personally I have 2 from Gränsfors Bruk

Proper axes and been making them over 100 years.

However may be a little OTT for some smashing pallets up.

If you would like to get out on an MTB there is some fantastic riding nearby. I posted on a few Candian MTB forums and hooked up with some cool guys to go out 4 times in 10 days of a business trip, so very accessable.

I moved to Southern Sweden (Skåne) in 2006 and since lived in a small seaside town called Ängelholm, quite popular as a summer destination with its long golden sand beaches.

Lots have already said some good points; Hallandåsen, Söderåsen, Kullaberg, south of Lund have some amazing riding spots of pure natural trails.

Vallåsen DH was started by me and the previous owners back in the day. But it was sold a couple of years ago and the new owners were not so interested in the DH summer. Shame as we’d built a great resort for the summer and I’d even had the Swedish Cup DH race there. I even got offered the job to run Vallåsen DH, but turned it down as my day job pays too well and give plenty of time off to ride my bike. If you look on YouTube there’s some video footage and in the past I used to do some promo work as well, along with the comps etc, there some photos and stuff here from back in 2010: Vallåsen 2010

    Happy fun times 8)

I hear now though there is a renewed interest in the DH summer scene, probably as the winters have been rubbish just late so in these winters’ cash is hard to come by. At least with the summer DH they can keep staff on and run the lift to a degree. So I think they are even considering to open the 4 seater lift up again this year, which would be great to open the whole area back up again. They have a new home page will give more info: Vallåsen BP

Some really fantastic riding in Skåne, but you will need local guidance to really find it. Posting on HappyMTB will get you this, as long as you are friendly. If you are ever near Ängelholm then drop me a line and I’ll show you the fastest single track in Skåne in the forests behind Ängelholm’s train station towards the sea.

Sweden make a great holiday destination, simple clean, quiet, natural; but don’t come here looking to be entertained, that you have to do yourself.

Since I arrived in Sweden I have never been anywhere else for a summer holiday; there’s no need as everything is perfect right here (apart from if it’s a wet summer then that sucks a bit).

Hej mikewsmith; do you have an extension to that chart with X0 9 speed ratios?

I just bought an Absolute Black Oval NW 32T, running on a Anthem 29er with 1×11 XX1. Given my trails/terrain I’m using only the bottom half of the cassette as I don’t have any proper mountains local. So should have bought the 34T at least, maybe even the 36T!

Decision should be based on the ratios you use currently for your riding, hindsight for me 🙄

Oh great, having just order a XX1 gear setup from CRC last week I guess it’ll also arrive griveled 😥

At least the cassette came from BD, and that was ungriveled in correct packaging!

Good news update; new frame on its way.

Bad news; its not a colour I would have chosen = Anyone want to buy a brand new 2014 Anthem 29er frame, size L in Charcoal/Silver/Black? Seroiously considering to sell it now!

A topic on my mind also so hope you don’t mind me joining in.

I need to have a bike box picked up in the UK and shipped to Sweden; content are an On-One Fat bike so geuess the weight will be around the 20kg mark when all boxed up.

Any tips for a company who could do this?

Sounds interesting, you sure it’ll fit the X5 chainset on the Fatty? How about £20 delivered to Derby?

Unfortunately yes, was just about to buy when I found this, as soon as I have an ok from Giant about a free replacement then the group set is back on, if not then I daren’t think 😯

    Thanks for the reply Andy.

Already had a reply from the US, sent them the info and they’ll set the warranty wheels in motion. So far so good.

The new 3d printing place on the same site is also without DLMS at this time and from what I heard direct from renishaw 3d print consistency still remains troublesome to the point they have software that checks as it builds ,kind of like live NDT

Interestingly though the new rapid prototype centre is offering 2 days free consultancy in RPT for SME’s if anyone’s interested, and no I don’t work at that site

Can you please tell me who can offer this service, this process would suit something I need making, as long as it doesn’t cost 3xUS national debt!

I’d say the build spec is comparible to Islabike, if not slightly better. Frog have some nice small detail touches also, like their straight pull wheel set have 2 green spokes on each wheel, and their colours and decal are more vibrant.

I do think (but don’t actually know) that perhaps the Islabike frame tubes are perhaps a better grade of alloy and perhaps where they save some weight. But I wasn’t keen on the Cnoc rear triangle layout from the pictures whereas the Frog is more traditional.

Overall I’m impressed enough to recommend and buy Frog again.

    Update:

Thanks to the offers of help and 2nd hand bikes; in the end decided to go for a brand new Frog bike. In Stock, very easy to buy, dispatched the same day as I ordered (Friday 28th Feb) and then arrived at my house in Sweden yesterday (Wednesday 5th March). And after puting it together last night I’m impressed.

So, in summary I won’t be bothering with Islabikes again, the service from Frog was very good and the quality of the bikes build is appropriate. Frog are slightly cheaper as well and I think their colour range is better. Only down side is that according to the website the Frog is slightly heavier, but its certainly no heavy weight and still feels light in the hand.

Thanks for the replies and offers.

Just to add that they don’t even have stock anyway so I can’t buy one now, I asked if they had confirmation on the next delivery and was told ‘not sure, but we should know on Wednesday’. Was told new stock would be in before the end of Feb.

Not sure whether to wait, by a 2nd hand one or buy a Frog 😕

llfl, sorry bud, now stop messing and get that house built 😉

Sorry Hora, thanks for the offer but I need a 14 this year.

I could have it shipped to my mums in Derby, but it might be a little heavy for her to carry to the post office seeing as she is 74!

Might have to conder Frog again but been so happy with the Rothan.

Agree about Halfords, they were nice enough but the entire bike needed adjusting/setting up when I got it home and during the first rides.

BTW – how do you find the brake callipers, do you get annoying disc rub after a while that need constant tweaking?

Nice photos, and bike, have one myself and am happy.

A question, why did you change the rotors and wheels?

    Bream

They’re not bad but they are overpriced and image strong.

If you want high quality at a reasonable price = Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO.

Ok, I’ll admit when I’m wrong, not sure what happened before but weighed it again yesterday and it’s actually 23.8 lbs. That’s with a size large frame and Stans’s rim tape and none UST RR evo tyres. Still a good weight I think for not trying too hard.

My mates size medium Superfly 100 with 2x 10 XX etc, and a custom wheel build weighed in at 23.3 lbs.

I want to verify this then, don’t like being in the grey. I’ll borrow the scales again, weigh something to verify the accuracy, like a 10kg weight and then weigh my bike, plus my friends Superfly 100, and post the results & photos.

If I’m wrong then I’m wrong, likewise if I’m correct.

Plus I don’t really see a ~550g 29er 2.25 RR as a ton of weight, but each to their own I guess.
