Very small world – you still speak to Rich Morse?

My user name doesn't really give away who I am, suffice to say I have been Evoless for a very long time…
    Small world indeed 😉

I know the feeling, haven't owned an Evo for 3 years now but at least I get to race them still when I can 😀

Not heard from Rich for quite a while now, last thing I heard he was living near Brum and planning on getting hitched with his young bird. What about you, heard anything from him?

Woke up with a cough race day, so there was no way of telling if the training had helped.

    Bad luck 🙁

PS – you're not Bream off the MLR by any chance are you? If so, its a small world.

Surely there can be only one Bream on the interweb 😉

Yep, was into bikes long before Mr Mak was winning world rallies for Mitsi 😆

I have also just heard the Middleburn external BB etc, this would be ideal, will see if they can tell me anything 8)

The RS7 is looking good to me, plus its made in the UK 8)

Just dropped them a line to see if they can offer a bespoke service (flamejob 🙄 ) 😀

Having the same question every year I always go with base layers, you can never have too many base layer when you ride 5 days a week 😀

That new Raceface SIXC looks very night but maybe not for DH more AM/FR.

It does look nice but no 83mm BB 🙁

How come the 175mm 44t is that cheap? Anyone?

Typo I reckon, buy it quick 😆

whats wrong with XT or SLX?

Nothing I guess but I can't get them in 165s can I or?

Plus I was looking at the high end of the scale, personally I think the XT and SLR are great kit but then again so are the Saints I'm selling now, just wanted something a bit more exclusive. I always try and use the need for a new bit of kit to upgrade 8)

If you want Bespoke cranks then get someone to make them for you.

Sure but who, hence my question? 😉

Raceface Atlas FR look pretty but come with a weight, they reckon close to 1kg all in! (even if 40g lighter than Saints!)

The next question would be which Middleburn?

    RS7 UNO or DH-Slalom or?

Let us know how you get on oldgit, I guess I can class myself as a returning racer with only a 20 year gap in between 😆

I am possibly wrong but the black book approach seems more based on traditional training methods like I use to use 20 years ago and pitched as building fitness across the entire season. Whereas the Carmichael plan is more about hitting peak in 8 weeks regardless of building a deep base. The Carmichael plan does have a Endurance block section that can be used to build base/endurance as well. I haven't read his main book about training but I guess its more based on people who have more time to train properly based on a broader spectrum of training to race out the whole season etc. So, pick the plan the suits you best and focus on that, you can always change it around for the next season if you aren't happy with the results.

As for paypal, my account only states the transaction is complete so I assume he has accepted it?

Having worked with carbon quite a lot there is no way I'd file down a carbon spider, well maybe an external radius but nothing that cut into the fibre weave etc 😯

Get the file out 😯 😆

BTW oldgit & oddjob, just out of interest what were your field test results before you started the plan? My Wattage came out at 293 and HR 183!?

Also, what weeks are you in? I'm just coming to the end of week 2 only and can already feel the difference!!

Keep up the good work 😀

To be honest I think the biggest benefit of the Carmichael training plan is that it keeps you focussed on consitent training. Before I reckon I use to ride a similar amount of time but it was a lot more random. Best bit of having a structured plan is you get the most of your time productively. So in general just about any training plan will help as long as there is some science behind it 😀

But isn't that 695g without BB, so no lighter than my old XTR's?

Nope, that includes the BB apparently 😉

    and as strong?

    Probably.

    and how much more…

If you have to ask you can't afford etc.. 😉

    Race Face Next-SL Carbon Triple = claimed weight 695g (175mm) 8)

    Pricetag £585 😯

b r, yes it can be lighter if that's exactly what your after, but the cost per g starts to get rather high 😉

2nd what oddjob said, great book which easily explains the science and gives a good training plan based on low input hours. Using it myself now and happy with the results so far 8)

My old ones, this was from June 08, replacements have been perfect thus far, aparently the early FSA carbon cranks were prone to this problem but meant to be fixed now. Been great for me since 8)

They lasted about a year before one of the pedal inserts came loose.

And had you been the original owner that would've been a warranty issue.

I had the same problem with my 1st pair of FSA Megas and FSA replaced them even though I wasn't the 1st owner of the bike they came on! 😉

    Like these:

However, I'm unsure to whether I would actually pay RRP for another pair 😕 Yes they are pretty but not convinced they are that much better in terms of performance etc over say XTR….

But then again, they are pretty 8)

Started training proper now for next year as want to be a bit more higher up the field than mid 😉

1st race for 2010 is on the 3rd Jan – XC Slush Cup in Denmark
Will follow that series through till March when it ends.

Then Southern Sweden XC Cup starts in May and goes through the year.

Will ride 2 or 3 rounds of the Swedish DH Cup.

Then I plan to race on the road here and there, my main aim is the 6 day Halland tour in mid July 😀

Shud be fun if I keep my training up and baring any injuries 8)

Done it myself on my winter road bike, I wanted a thicker feel to the top of the bars down to the lever hoods so just doubled it up there and works just fine 8)

Denmark seems ok but most of the Danish guys I know would like to move across the water to Sweden where I live. Generally cheaper in Sweden (apart from beer!) etc, a lot of people live in Malmö and commute to Copenhagen over the enormous bridge 😆

But, if you work/live in Copenhagen then you are only a short drive away from our bike park in Sweden 😉 We have stacks of Danish riders who come over, and even more in the winter for the snow 8)

Yep, just checked and it's still the same for the SRAM PG990, $103 from Beyond Bikes = £63, CRC are selling them for £60 delivered 😯

    Go figure 😕

Well, unless there is a really good/cheap shop in NYC I think you'll struggle to find any real bargains as such 🙁

I was out in the US in July and visited several bike shops during my tour round and ended up buying nothing because the prices were no better than CRC 😐 And in a couple of cases actually more expensive, like the green XO cassette I was after!!!

I think for the best deal you have to look at the US versions of CRC and Wiggle, then have it delivered to your hotel or something.

Strange how you expect cheap kit when being abroad, I do it all the time, went to Japan and Korea 4 weeks ago and wanted to hunt down some good bike shops etc. Found a couple and they were much more expensive than CRC 😥

I think there are some good deals to be had in the US but it's not easy to find, good luck.

Just bought myself an early xmas present with the Tacx Fortius setup. Can't say how good it is, flippin fantastic (with cost ignored as it ain't cheap!). Takes a while to setup and get running etc but once done the results are really good. And then there's the RLV riding, so impressive, got a tour up the Alps planned for the weekend then after you can spend ages going over your performance data etc 8)

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like being outside for real but when you have an injury like me now or the weathers rubbish etc you can't get a much better training tool and with the RLV it almost makes it enjoyable, well almost 😆
