Yes, if the alternative was colleagues getting laid off or no salary at all.

What sane person would pick an alternative option?

Doubtless this will amaze you, but the British Army is barely over 100,000 strong and they’re already heavily committed doing more than you could possibly imagine.

Whilst they’re available to assist the civil authorities upon request, they can’t be everywhere at the same time.

So, if you’re that bothered, grab a shovel and stag on.

I was given a pair of Dragon DX with mirrored lens 10 years ago, they’re still going strong.

I bought a second pair of Dragon DX two years ago (limited edition Jack Daniel’s model Ooooooh!), they came with a mirrored lens and an amber/flat light lens which has gone into my original pair.

They’ve never let me down including full seasons in Banff and St.Anton.

There’s one in Belfast called For Cod and Ulster.

They do a ‘King Billy’s Family Feast’ for £16.90

    I must be regressing.

I was earning the exact requisite amount that appears to denote success when I was 29. Now I’m 31 and am some £5K off target again.

My own personal core failure is an inability to resist women of a mentally unstable nature…3 in a row now!

I’ve always worn Issey Miyake and Hugo Boss.

I was given some Paul Smith ‘Extreme’ for my birthday, it’s really nice…similar to Issey Miyake’s ‘L’eau d’Issey’

This may well sound pathetic, but I don’t ride my bike for transport anymore due to this sort of thing.

MTB is purely a leisure/recreational pursuit for me now. I’ve just had too many near misses on public roads, and know too many people who’ve been hit and injured, some seriously.

I love those Christopher Ward watches, especially the chronos. Stunning looking watches at a pretty reasonable price, good reputation too.

I nearly bought one earlier in the year, but decided I couldn’t really justify £800 at the time. I ended up buying a Luminox Field Chrono instead…very pleased with it, solid, good looking and a super comfortable leather strap….oh, and the gimmick is that the hour/minute hands and hour markers contain mini capsules filled with a luminous gas. Which is nice.

The Rotary watch you link to at the top looks handsome, good price too.

I listen to The Smiths a lot, I vote Tory too.

I’m amazed anyone still buys into that ‘born in’t North, die in’t North’ Labour voting automaton thing.

Still, I have more time for Marr than I have for Morrissey, he’s bailed out the last three times I’ve tried to see him. I don’t think it’s personal, but I’d be forgiven for wondering.

It changes daily, but I have been listening to a lot of Les Savy Fav recently.

I would like to mine Good Charlotte too, preferably with a Claymore!

    He’s not a General

That’ll be Air Chief Marshal Sir Graham Eric “Jock” Stirrup GCB, AFC, FRAeS, FCMI, if you don’t mind?

It hasn’t been called Flicks for a few years now.

It was trading as Life last time I went there, which was about 3 years ago…it’s terrible club for terrible people.

I lived in Anna Valley on and off for 9 years, still have friends there, but the town doesn’t hold particularly happy memories for me.

BH – I met a General Courage – depending how old your father is may be the same chap – he was a descendant of the Reading brewing family. With whom did your father serve?

He’s 61 now and retired in 2003, so he’d have been 53 at the time.

Served with the RTR, retiring as a Brigadier.

    There’s a polish one called jeansonline.pl, they’re pretty decent.

Priced below UK RRP and they have a decent range too.

Other than that, I’ve found that most of the bargain/grey market UK websites tend to have a limited range – typically 501s in stonewash, medium blue and black, but not much else.

BTW, if anyone has managed to find jeans that are sleeker in profile than a nice pair of close fitting 501s, without being tight enough to make you look like a member of Megadeth’s road crew then let me know!

TJ will be along in a minute to explain to you that your tribal drum suggestion is indicative of a deeply condescending and borderline neo-colonialist view of Africa.

About 30 posts in someone will invoke Godwin’s law by mentioning the Nazis and the internet will explode.

That said, I’d go for something instrumental like Explosions in the Sky.

I’m strongly in favour of subsidising N.Korea, giving them food, assisting them in the maintenance of their utilities etc etc

The cost to the developed world would be utterly insignificant, and if it keeps the lid on the ‘instant sunshine’ canisters, so much the better.

I wonder whether the Chinese are regretting propping up this particular regime for so long?

I’m reminded of the single worst line from any film EVER:

From J-Lo/Ben Affleck vehicle Gigli, a film that managed to scrape through the bottom of the barrel and then tunnel straight to the earth’s core.

It’s remarkable how little we know about the inner mechanisms of N.Korea. Obviously, by ‘we’ I mean the public in general, I would hope that the intelligence services have a better idea of what’s going on.

Is Kim even running the show now? Have the Generals usurped him?

Hopefully this can be resolved without a burst of instant sunshine over Seoul.

Also, if you’re going to sling around accusations of racism, at least try and find some supporting evidence. I’m amazed you haven’t been snapped up for your own Guardian column. I bet you could churn out gems like this in your sleep:
